The local Fred's and Dollar Generals have packs that have a booster(usally Shadowmoor or Kamigawa ) and around 40 unknown cards behind them. Anyone know anything about those? They have been here for a year or two.

I would be interested as well to know what's behind the pack. In my search at Wal-Mart, I have seen multiples of these with a variety of packs in front. It's only one pack in the front, but most I have seen are not even type 2 packs. Furthermore, I do not know what the other cards are that are behind the pack.

well, hopefully it will be your opponent killing him to get the card back. That's what usually happens when I play him. And as already mentioned, you could give him flying with Elspeth to get around Earthquake. just a thought anyways...

Say I control a Manabarbs and my opponent controls a planeswalker (like Garruk Wildspeaker with 4 loyalty counters). If he taps his land for mana, I know the Manabarbs will trigger for each land tapped, but my question is can I redirect that damage towards the planeswalker?

Anybody else try out Tectonic Edge? I saw this card like everywhere after I glanced at some of the other decks being play. Would it be worth a slot to try it out?

So I sold some cards to play at FNM, but ended up going 0-2 drop getting land screwed all 4 games.

Round 1 played against not quite bloodquake but like our deck minus white cards. Game 1 lost to multiple Bloodghast and man lands while only had 3 lands. Game 2 opponent mulls to 5 plays 1 lavaclaw reach and proceeds to draw all 4 bolts, 2 lands for a couple of Blightnings, and eventually gets there. I had like 8 lands and all removal in my hand but no creatures or planeswalkers.

Round 2 played against bant with KotR and Deft Duelist. Again, game 1 I die with 4 lands holding my 5cc spells including BSA. Game 2 I Earthquake some Duelist but when I try to Blightning or Bolt something, I get Hindering Light...yep twice even. My other stuff gets Flash Freezed and he eventually gets out Jwar Sphinx FTW.

After getting mana screwed, I got mad and dropped to play some Dominion with some friends. Definitely cheered me up Wink

Dave_Vach - welcome. As for your decklist, I think you need more mountains. You have like 8 ways to search but only 1 to get. Yes, Summits will help, but you have 12 cards that require 1 Red and only 3 sources of Red. IMO, I would cut the Crossroads for more mountains.

I also don't believe Iona should be in the deck, too mana intensive, we are not ramp or Polymorph. Yes, you could get back with Liliana, but at that point just seems like a win-more card. Maybe more suitable with the Chalice, but not here in your deck.

Earthquake is a fine choice, as it sweeps and does damage to players. Also it's good that you can redirect to planeswalkers. As for the Boros matchup, isn't Earthquake too slow for that matchup? They probably just Harm's Way anyway. I guess it comes down to build and personal preference.

Lightning Bolt, IMO, is just right for this decktype. Early game it's creature removal and late game it's a finisher. It also helps deal with opponent's planeswalkers.

WaterBleu - I meant the Ablaze, IMO, is the worst of them all.

Ricochet Trap may be a bad call, at least for me anyway, because I play BitBlast.

Identity Crisis was another card I was thinking about but forgot. Maybe another meta call with this card.

I'll second the Dragonmaster, 1-of that's really good late game.

WaterBleu - just curious as to which planeswalker you think is worse. The purpose of Blightning is to deal 3 damage and make them discard 2 cards. I believe the damage to be just as important as the discard, otherwise we'd be playing Mind Rot. I understand it's not as effective when they are discarding dead removal cards. But then again, how are your opponents going to know whether or not if you do play creatures (at least game 1)? And to be fair, the decklist contains Elspeth and the Covenant which both make creatures. Are you going to test out Marshal's Anthem in your build? Your build could support it better as it is RWb, so maybe try 2 Anthem over Collar.

Corrosive_Fluids - Again, I see the argument, but I just think this card could have potential. But I guess it would be more effective if you played creatures as well. Maybe it would be more of a meta call, I don't know.

    Any other cards worth discussing/testing?

    Changed my deck around, currently:

I am probably going to put some Firewalkers, if I can get some. Otherwise back to Duress or Ruinblaster. What do you guys think about SB Ricochet Trap? Obv worth it against anything blue, but what about other things like Mind Sludge, Blightning, changing creature removal from our creature to theirs, etc.

Bit Blast and Bolt can't kill persecutor though so you shouldn't really count them.

Actually you can block with him, then use those to kill him.
Though the funniest way to get rid of him is to give him to your opponent with Bazaar Trader.

I only have 1, so I haven't had the chance to play with him. Just wait a week for the SCG Open in Virginia, that might yield some results.

edit: or PT San Diego for that matter.

Chandra Ablaze is probably the worst planeswalker and IMO isn't worth a spot even in a burn deck

    Fixed that for ya Wink

my argument was that. creatureless build vs shroud build is pretty much the same goal. Hold their spot removal useless. In this case I think American Control puts more pressure than ur creatureless build.(because of Jwar Isle)
Another thing when you run a creatureless build and running blighting. It makes their removal useful again. useful for discard instead of discarding their important cards.

I agree as well, however if it hits, it's still 3 damage. There is also MD Duress and you might even wait to duress first, then blightning. Does anyone think Mire's Toll is worth trying? I know some of the builds have a lower amount of swamps, but it seems good late game. Duress only hits noncreature and nonland while Mire's Toll hits anything but you only see cards equal to the number of swamps you have.

The American match up is poor. I wish we had our own shroud creature, I might make some room for Wall of Reverence, but then they'll be the only target for their removal. Luminarch is a thought, it can be bounced, but at least it'll put a little pressure on them. Not sure what else I can side against control except maybe zombie edict.

Maybe try Rise from the Grave in your creatureless build?
I don't much like Haunting Echoes, even in SB. The guy I played mirror match against tried it one week and then took it out. I don't know about his other matchups but he used it against me and I still won with burn.

I feel the refuge and lavaclaw are on about the same level. That may change if I ever get to attack with one. For the meantime, the refuge gain life can offset the fetch pay life to search. I only have 2 summits, so I had to go with refuge. However, now I'm going to use lavaclaw and tri-lands, I'm okay with that.

Anyone have any good stories about lavaclaw reaches? The guy I played in mirror said he won a game by attacking for 6 with it. It's been in and out of my deck but I hardly see the 1-of anyway.

andybmcc - nice list. I would also consider oblivion ring, as it hits most anything but more importantly deals with enchantment/artifact that we can't deal with (for example, Eldrazi Monument, Pithing Needle, etc.).

BCGamer - Thanx for the feedback. I think I want to try him out as a 1-of, when I get one, lol.

Corrosive_Fluids - word. I need me some firewalkers too, don't have much worldwake.

That's another card I missed. However, I think it also depends on your build, as the cost includes multiple instances of white. For example, your deck could probably support it both in colors and because you have token generators. Nice to get the Nighthawks out of bolt range though.

I don't like quest in this deck, seems slow to activate. You could remove for more consistency upping other spells like explore/expedition for more ramp or canopy for more protection, or even 2 more lands like expanse.

Knight of Reliquary is awesome in G/W, but more so with fetch lands (which I don't know if you have), harrow, and cobra.

If you are going to add the wall, I think you need more white sources or ways to get them. Fetch lands are the expensive way, bant/naya panaromas are cheaper, but both work well with cobra/baloth.

    maybe try:
    -2 Quest For Renewal
-2 Scute Mob/Terra Stomper (prefer scute over stomper but I guess you can do one each as well)
    -2 Forest

    +2 Wall of Reverence
    +2 Terramorphic Expanse (or panaroma)
    +2 Plains
    (or +1 Plains, +3 panaroma)

    Sideboard suggestions:
    Celestial Purge
    Slingbow Trap
    Great Stable Stag
    Naturalize/Acidic Slime
    River Boa
