On October 6th, longtime MTGN admin THEDARKPRIESTCYRIC managed to get in touch with Raa (over the phone), and according to Cyric, Raa's planning on getting MTGN back up and running. I'd almost wager that somebody'll send a manned mission to Mars, clone dinosaurs that go on a rampage throughout Los Angeles, or crown a breakdancing robot named Stankalicious "King of America" before Raa ever successfully pulls through on that claim, though, so I wouldn't hold my breath. :b

Thanks for that update, Jon - greatly appreciated. As sad as it is... I'd say evidence backs your assessment. Slant

At this point, I've written it off, and you know that I'd be one of the last people to do that if it wasn't a stark reality. :/

*sigh* Okay, yeah, it's not looking likely at this point. Frown

Greatly appreciate it, Xen. I've been trying to figure out what was going on. Slant

Very sad - I still don't understand what Raa has been thinking the past few years, why he hasn't been willing to sell the site. Frown

Hopefully he'll come around and give it to someone who wants to grow the MTGNews community. We'll see. I'm not writing it off, yet... Wink

Yeah, people still go there. (Some more than others... :uhh:)

    Yeah, it's still down. Mad

    Yeah, there are issues. Slant

Doesn't mean folks there don't want to make it better. Cool

Daron: Glad to hear things are settled - just having that stress off will probably be a great relief, no matter what the cost. Frown Best wishes to you and yours, and I really hope everything worked out as well as it could.

Jay: Thank you for being able and willing to do what you did. Daron and his family are definintely not the only ones who appreciate it. Smile

Really sorry to hear it, Angelica SeraphinA. Frown I agree with R&Doom that this isn't good news.

Also sorry that things have gotten too annoying here, but I can honestly say that I'm not surprised. :slant: Having similar thoughts, myself... Frown

    Take care...

They couldn't graduate from high school, they don't deserve a job. Dropouts are supposed to be Army and Marine cannon fodder, not civilian workers with lives.

first of all, with regards to getting a GED....sorry, but if you can't cut it in high school for whatever reason and you drop out, there's not a lot of redeeming values.

with regards to the "army or marine cannon fodder"....i doubt very seriously annorax was referring to the Officers in the army. rather referring to the PFCs of the world.
    Reeeeeally...

(First, my apologies to Angelica SeraphinA for our hijacking her thread with this discussion...)

That's a sad attitude to take, to be honest. Having enlisted (that's "the PFCs of the world" ;)) in the Marines while I was in High School (because I knew I couldn't afford college) on the DEP (Delayed Entry Program), I have to say that I'm pretty disgusted that there are still people who have these kinds of biases. Are there people in the military who aren't exactly "top notch"? Oh heck yeah. Met a number of them, and even went to a court marshal for one. But I get just as many of those in the civilian IT world, believe it or not. :slant:

Let me tell you some of the things that you're missing out on.

The second smartest guy in my high school class was in the Army. (The SOB scored 1530 on the SAT to my 1520 - very hilarious! The smartest was in the Navy, but you didn't specifically mention them. ;)) He's since left the service and taken up civilian life working at Microsoft for the past decade or so, making some pretty decent cash.

I ended up not going through the Marines because I got an Army ROTC scholarship (to my shock and my mom's delight). In my experience with the Army, I met a number of great and intelligent people who, due to life problems (family problems, tragedies, etc.) ended up with a GED. I also met a lot of people who joined the military simply because they loved the security, they loved the idea of it (serving our country), their family had someone who was career military and it appealed to them, etc. Some of those enlisted folks were very impressive, and I'd love to work with them again.

A friend of mine I met during a summer job had a GED. He didn't graduate because he had to drop out early in his senior year to take care of his little brother when his parents were killed. His fault? Heck no - the guy was sharp, getting good grades, everything. Got his GED almost immediately after dropping out. But he had a GED - you would have assumed he was someone who didn't "deserve a job" with "not a lot of redeeming value". Heh... Your loss.

There are a lot of reasons why someone might not graduate from high school. From the sounds of it, you are assuming it is always an issue of motivation or intelligence. You're welcome to that opinion, but the facts show that you are wrong. Just thought you'd like to know. Wink

Yeah, just so you understand, RUBRDUX, there was no change. The information you are quoting was a rules clarification. They just wanted to make sure everyone understood how the Search rules worked. :slant:

Personally, I like to think of these things as great learning opportunities. Ya know, the kind that let you go and learn how to build decks better for yourself, so you can do the same to other people... Wink

When I was acting as a personnel manager in a large retail store, making decisions about who got interviews and who didn't, people who had GEDs automatically didn't get interviewed because they're cowards.
Personally, I see the problem there as not with the fact that the people had GEDs but that the people making that decision (including, apparently, you, Annorax ) were biased against people with GEDs.

That's a different situation, completely, and a rather sad thing in my opinion... Frown To stereotype a group of people based upon something like this is pretty sad...

ummm just curious if we have any explanation for the 5000+ hits for */*?
    Heheheh... Yeah. Grin

Most likely, the database that they are using has a "wildcard" of *. You can usually code for that, using special characters to replace the user-entered value of *, but they probably missed it in this version. It's an easy thing to forget, but it also implies (to me) that they are not reusing the code behind the Orb each time they create it. That's a shame, cuz that means that they're wasting a lot of time and money each time they create it. It also means that the folks that they have doing the implementation don't really understand good software development practices... *sigh* I knew I should have applied for that job... Wink

But that's just one possibility. Halo

Well, I use this super techy Norton Anti-Virus ( Rolleyes ) and it does a virus scan every Friday automatically.
Now I don't know of these "SubSeven, BackOrifice, or something equally insidious" of which Annorax speaks, but I know that it is possible to "fool" Norton if you successfully get on the computer. There are a number of worms and viruses that will infect your computer in a way that prevents Norton from removing them - and in some cases from detecting it in the first place.

Also, is your Norton virus info up-to-date?

I'm with Annorax on this, T2sux: Google detection and removal information on these kinds of trojans.

    Good luck...

Sounds great to me - not that that really matters. Wink

However, how will he know that he can post again, if no one knows who he is to tell him? Confused
