Yeah, what happened here? This used to be a very lively forum that I loved reading...

When this site was sold, most of the mods packed up and created www.mtgnexus.com .

Anyone have any idea when the Judge promo Æther Vials hit the market? I’m going to pick up two for a Modern deck I’m brewing.
It's a Pro Tour promo, and no. Nobody has any idea what the promo schedule is in 2020. It's just such a crazy messed up broken year.

I can't think of a worse possible place to sink that money. I advise people financially for a living. Want my honest advice? If you don't need it to pay rent or buy groceries? Take that money and retire some debt with it (credit card is almost always the best kind--it's outrageously expensive over time) and then *do not run it back up again*. I would advise you in the strongest possible terms not to invest in MtG as a longterm 'investment shelter' of any kind anymore. My two cents.

    QFT.

That said, when someone talks about "investing" in the game, I always hear that as "I have spare money, and I want to play the game in a way that is most enjoyable to me." If that means splashy foils, great. If that means Revised duals, wonderful. Manage your game portfolio, and acquire cards cheaply so that you can trade for what you want, or so that you can play the deck you want. Always remember that there's the possibility that the game crashes with the rest of the economy. Should I have flipped my duals? Probably. Will I regret not doing so if WOTC goes under tomorrow? Not at all. They're cool, and I enjoy playing with them. Just because WOTC dies doesn't mean that I won't be able to play with my friends.

I was watching a video on 7th edition foils, and remembered that I had a pair of foil Thorn Elementals and was curious if they were worth anything. Turns out, they're utter jank and worth ~$0.50 while the next least expensive foiled rare is $5. Is there a reason for this disparity? Was it a promo that there's millions of? That's my only assumption, and I wouldn't waste time asking here, but Google isn't helpful when you put in a MTG card and the word 'price' together in the search bar :/

It *was* in fact a promo that was given away by the bushel.

I believe that for 8th Edition it was Elvish Champion. For 9th Edition it was definitely Serra Angel.

eBay has a coupon code of PICKYOURCARD good for 10% off, but ONLY if you use the eBay app. In addition, eBay currently has a 5% eBay bucks promo, and they stack, and the eBay bucks uses 5% back from the original full price, IE, buy something for $100, pay $90, but get $5 in eBay bucks.

Nice, but I'm done with eBay. They screwed me out of $150 by siding with a zero-feedback buyer rather than my 22-year-old account with perfect feedback. I'm not giving them another penny - ever.

Hey there. Jeff Menges is not a particularly rare nor reclusive artist. His signature doesn't carry a huge premium. You're looking at maybe a $5 card (UL Raiders is $0.50).

Sort by mid. Take your top 4 cards (the only ones that reach double digits) and sell them as singles. The rest you want to bundle all together and say "Someone please take this!" Nothing else is worth breaking out.

The condition of the back alone makes it HP at best, so the roller line seems less than relevant to me. It's not DMG, because it's clearly sleeve-playable.

I definitely want to grab the Judge Sliver Legion. Is the ebay price likely to go down in a couple of months as supply increases or is it all upwards after release?
Typically, judge foils start out expensive due to almost zero supply, then they stabilize. They won’t rise for a while unless the card in general spikes.

I’m unable to use that code. Are you sure it wasn’t a one-day thing?

Reviving an old thread to mention that I have stepped down from my role as mod here. When the site shutdown was announced, a great many of us decided "Well, let's start our own thing," so we created mtgnexus. Then the site was sold and reopened, but I (and many others) felt that the momentum was there and that we had reached a critical mass exodus. The new site owner did not contact me about remaining on staff, which definitely rubbed me the wrong way. I don't bear MTGS any ill will, but I'll definitely be posting less here and more on Nexus. Please come and join me, and other familiar faces, at MTG Nexus dot com.

I didn't look up every card, but rough estimate puts both piles about even. With the Sea I'd snap take pile B.
Concur. 2 FWB duals, one of which is a USea? I’m totally in on Pile B.

    What is this madness???

You're looking at foil, not market foil. It probably sold out (there are only two listings at the time of this writing), and someone posted one at a ludicrous price.

This kind of thing happens all the time.

I was going through my old cards and found my artist proof Tolarian Academy. I got it at a junior super series tournament in Orlando a long, long time ago.

Anyone know what the value would be for this thing? I tried looking online for proof value ideas and can't find anything within the last 5 years or so.

    Thanks in advance.

Hey there Onyxstorm, welcome to MTGS. Artist proof prices are pretty subjective. Academy is an objectively powerful card that is very popular, so I'd put it somewhere in the $25-$50 range. That's just a guess, though - I think that I paid about $20 for my copy, but that was a while ago.

    Side A:
    Mox Opal (SOM), NM
    $550 cash

    Side B:
War of the Spark Mythic Edition

There's no urgency on either side to open the Mythic Edition, so part of this question is: Will the price for WAR Mythic Edition drop over the next six months or so? (It's currently pretty easy to find it on ebay at the low 700s.)
I’d take the Mythic Edition here, and it’s not close. I’ve seen some auctions close around $700, and I’ve resigned myself to $650 being my target price for pickup and that’s what is being offered, with part of it being tied up in an Opal. I don’t see it dropping below $650, even though I’m still hoping for $500 (yeah that’s a vain hope).
