rancored_elf posted a message on [[Official]] [JOU] Running Tally of highest priced cards (Updated November 14th)(previous tallies are located in the following posts: 1, 13, 14)Posted in: Market Street Café Archive
After the Temples' recent price jump, the Tally settles a bit:
1) Ajani Mentor of Heroes (21) / /
2) Athreos God of Passage (18) / /
3) Mana Confluence (13) / /
4) Temple of Malady (8.5) / /
5) Godsend (8) / /
6) Iroas God of Victory (8) / /
7) Prophetic Flamespeaker (8) / /
8) Keranos God of Storms (7) / /
9) Temple of Epiphany (6.5) / /
10) Pharika God of Affliction (6) / /
11) Kruphix God of Horizons (5) / /
12) Master of the Feast (4.5) / /
The card's most recent move is on right. means no movement. is a card that wasn't on the list last update. This is the update's hottest mover. (#) is price in CND incl. shipping here.
There are still just 12 cards worth $3 or more, and therefore worth opening in a booster pack.
Ajani cooled just slightly, but so did 2nd place Athreos so their order didn't change. Mana Confluence does seem to be falling and has dropped from 16 to 13 over the past couple weeks. Temple of Malady takes 4th place again, and of course is the 2nd best rare in the set. It jumped to the $8 or $9 level a few days ago and has held that new price point well. Godsend continues to slide, as I continue to ask "why is it even on the Tally at all?" - perhaps it won't be around for long? Iroas also fell in lockstep with Godsend, to land at $8 where Prophetic Flamespeaker has been for a while. Keranos and Kruphix both lost a buck as freaky Pharika actually clawed back 50c or so to move up one slot. Master of the Feast rounds out the tally at 12th and $4.5, and is a card I'm watching because I'm having trouble evaluating its playability. Anyone got tournament results or playtesting data to share? Just below the cutoff is Sage of Hours followed by the green and red Eidolons.
I'd also like to clarify here where the Tally comes from. Many people use this thread, apparently without understanding how the data is generated, and then tell me that I'm doing it wrong. But these numbers aren't just figures I crunched off some website and copied and pasted here for people to read. These numbers are my opinion, first and foremost. I've been in the secondary market since Urza's Saga or so, and some people value my insights. If you're looking for pure data gleaned from eBay or a singles website, I suggest you either go there yourself and view it, or find a thread where people are discussing it. This isn't that. Please note the URL link on the word "here" just below the Tally, a few lines up. Open that link to see the same list of cards, on my singles website. That's where the Tally comes from. But where do the prices on my website come from?
Primarily, from my own opinion. As I said, I've been doing this a long time. I make lots of mistakes and I'm always learning, but all in all I understand how to run my business and keep it profitable and sustainable, which means that all in all I know how to price MTG singles. So I usually know about how much I want to charge for a card before I look anywhere else, although of course I'd never price cards SOLELY on my own opinion without doing some research. Because my website sells not through auctions, but through a "Buy it Now" style of experience, I use BIN prices over auction prices, mainly. eBay IS the marketplace, pretty much. It's where price discovery happens. There's enough volume going on there that for the most part somebody who knows what they're doing can figure out how to price something just based on the current Buy It Nows available. Sometimes, I'll check completed listings if I need more data. Another place to look is SCG, but I take into account they're able to overprice all their cards and still stay in business. I'll also check TCG and other third party sites if I need still more info to make my decision. I also take into account unique and hidden data only I have available to me, such as my recent sales history of the card in question, and my current inventory level. Therefore, the prices on the Tally contain some influence from factors some people may not want to consider. If that's the case, please view another thread, rather than telling me that my methods for pricing cards is wrong.
One more consideration to be aware of is that my prices INCLUDE shipping worldwide (even though Canada Post has the highest postage rate in the world). It's now $1.12 to send a single card around the block here in Canada. A few playsets of cards to the USA would cost over $2, and just 25 cards sent overseas can run me $10 and up (not counting any other fees like PayPal and packaging). Most sites/sellers add the postage (and other costs) onto the order, mine doesn't. And lastly, my site displays prices in either CND or USD, depending what the user selects, so be aware you may be seeing the CND price, which due to the exchange rate is currently about 10% higher than the USD price.
If all these factors come together to form a list of cards you feel is worth glancing at, and maybe even reading my discussion and rationale on the topic, this thread's for you! My primary motivation here is to learn - I value the discourse that happens here. But right behind that is a less selfish reason - I want to be able to share my own hard work and time with others. I spend a decent chunk of my life making my business sustainable in a very hard economic environment, especially for small one-man businesses! Corporations rule the day right now and it's tough for us little guys who have absolutely no help, no tax breaks, no favourable govt regulations, no bank backing, etc. But that's the way I like things. I believe in the free market, I thrive on it. I believe businesses should die if they're not profitable, that's what keeps marketplaces healthy. If I suck at what I do and can't keep it running, I should go away, and I'll do it gladly. But thus far, my skill (and perhaps luck?) have been enough to keep me around, that and some loyal regular customers who have been using my site for 10 years or even longer. Anyhow, by sharing a bit of my expertise and effort with you, I feel I'm providing something that's useful to some people, and I'm also always learning in the process. Thanks for that, guys. And thanks to the moderators for their work keeping the site running so we can do all this. -

Default User posted a message on [[Official]] Miscut, Misprint, Foreign, Foil &Other Oddities Price Thread.People usually use terms like miscut instead of off-centered, which the Library certainly is, but only slightly. Off-centered cards are usually described very accurately by telling which way it's off-centered, in your case top-bottom and by percentages of borders on both sides. Yours is about 40-60. These are very common and usually only lower the card value. Sometimes really off-center ones can make the card bit more expensive and if it shows the cutting guide-marks (white circles) it can be seen as a miscut... But only by some players.Posted in: Market Street Café
The one below has been really hard to find a buyer who would value it even a bit over the general value, while it's a quite cool looking one. It's about 15-85 top-bottom miscut. Sligtly askew and shows one cutting dot and is a hot Modern playable to boot. I've been trying to sell this for over a year on MCM, with minimal interest.

Default User posted a message on Judge foil Force of WillOn another board a judge got the judge level info from JudgeCenter. There are roughly 1100 L2+ judges now. As the newer judges haven't had a chance to certify anybody yet and as the change to needing to be level 2 judge or higher to go judge GP's drew lot of new judges to L2, there are portion of the L2's who will not get the promo, but all L3's or higher will get one (the requirements to L3 are to certify another judge [or was when I was active, might have changed].)Posted in: Market Street Café
So there will be maximum of 1100 copies, but more likely under 1k copies. Maybe as low as 800.
But estimating 1000 copies, maybe quarter of the judges will want to keep theirs, that leaves 750 availlable. First few auction high and then we wait how much stores will pay. This will set the limit. I really hope I can buy one, but have to wait and see. But I do expect this to be the judge foil with the highest price tag, at least for a while. -

Uldan posted a message on The [Un]Official "Buy or Sell?" Thread!Posted in: Market Street CaféQuote from KnickMQuote from UldanQuote from KnickMShould I buy foil Elspeth, Sun's Champion for $35? I don't need it immediately, but I'd certainly like to get it.
It will go much lower than that when it rotates out, but that is 18 months-ish away. Elspeth Tirel foils dipped around $16-17 after rotation. If you need it during it's life in standard, I don't have an answer for you other than Theros is still going to be opened for another 5-6 months.
No, that's about what I was looking for. I think that she's a lot better than Elspeth Tirel, not as good as Elspeth Knight-Errant. Patience must be my watchword.
I'm always a bit nervous about foil planeswalkers. I delayed on picking up LOTV, and it ended up costing me half of an Affinity deck in trade. I think it's JTMS syndrome: "It could take off, so I'd better buy now before it does" creates market pressure.
I wouldn't worry about that here, Elspeth 3.0 is nowhere even close to the power of JTMS or LOTV -

open chance of bitterblossom, mutavault and vendillion C while they still very expensive.
wait a few years, to let it collect dust and hopefully more money
Even if you open all 3 it's still not $260, even if one is foil. Not too much else in the set really other than Idyllic Tutor and Scapeshift - I would leave it sealed. -

Quote from Antny223I think you missed the part where TK said he was only going to spoil 1/4 today gcsmith.
So here's the deal, I'm working on getting images of the other 11. But my access today will be... limited.
Also!
If you look at today's birthdays (at the bottom of the main forum page), you'll see that today's my birthday! Which means hopefully I'm not completely side-tracked by my family and I have them and get them up before a whole day goes by. But I do ask for a little bit of patience in this instance just in case! - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Hi Kishkashta. There's already a thread for what to keep and what to pick up, but I think that the main question that you have to answer is "what's your purpose?" Do you want cards to play Standard? Do you want EDH cards? Do you want to make sure that you have cards that will appreciate in value over the years?
In general, cards are at their highest price point at prerelease weekend. Supply will just increase from here, so prices will go down. Most cards will follow this trend. So, what are you looking to do with your cards? That will help us tell you what cards you should hold and what you should ship.

This involves two rules that have recently changed. You cannot generate generic mana. You can only generate colorless mana. The only place that "generic" mana appears is in costs. WOTC has taken steps to clarify this. Prior to rule 4 removal, Birds in a mono-green deck tapped for either G or C. Please read this post again. They explain why Rule 4 made Birds tap for C.

Known value in lands against a lottery? Seems like Pile B to me. I guess it depends on whose calculation you use to set the value of the sealed product. TCG is saying MMA is about $350, which jives with what you can get a box for on eBay. What's the best case for you on that box, foil 'Goyf? Does anything else pay for the box? No. So, known value, or bet on opening a foil 'Goyf? I'll take the known value.
Congrats on Post #3,000.

Kira got promoted to Colonel and took over Terok Nor ...
Oh, that Kira? That card has been gradually climbing for the last year, trying to recover from its MMA printing. I don['t think that it's a Modern thing.
Spellskite is a recent thing (last couple weeks) - that shot up because we're gearing up for Modern, and it's a hugely played card in Modern.

Ummm.
You can see the prices when you click on the card lists. This is not exactly a treasure trove. If your box contains only those cards, and not an entire Starter 1999 set, then sell it as a lot. You may get $10 for it, especially if the cards have been played.

Congratulations!
Foil KTK Windswept Heath is now the fourth best version (after the Judge foil, the Onslaught foil, and the Expedition). It's still a good card, and it's still worth a lot, but I don't see it spiking. There will be a gradual rise, as with all solid foils, but nothing crazy.
If you hold it, it will go up, but if you trade it, you can probably trade into something that will also go up. If your only purpose in holding it is for value, then I'd trade it. Make sense?

Really? Definitely a disaster? It got people talking about the next product, which seems like a good thing from a marketing perspective. How was it a disaster?

There's a nascent BGx Eldrazi deck that's being pushed/hyped.
