People have been talking about that for many months, but the price movement started very suddenly and sharply a few days ago, as if by the flick of a switch. You can see from the price curve exactly when the info was passed on or leaked. Compare it to the SFM speculation movement from some time ago and observe the difference.Quote from RxPhantom »Quote from Havrekjex »Also, look at JTMS' price movement for the last few days and tell me that some people don't get inside info.
To be fair though, JTMS and Bloodbraid have been speculation targets for unbanning for a while now. They always see some movement in the days prior to B&R announcements.
Like I said before: a few days ago a fake MTGO screen shot with JTMS getting unbanned surfaced.
Spike happened around that time. -

WarMachinePrime posted a message on Gavin Varhey confirms change of course for Masters sets.Posted in: The Rumor MillThere are no "feels bad" cards outside of the bulk draft chaff in the common and uncommon slots.
I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you there. There are a metric crapton of feel-bad rares in Masters Sets, its littered with them. 35 cent rares have NO place in a 10 dollar pack of cards, they don't even in a 7 dollar pack of cards.
Also not every pack should have a foil, because then those would actually have some value.
I firmly disagree here as well. If you are paying 10 bucks for a pack, there better damn well be some value in the pack, not a bunch of useless 35 cent and less cards. Foils need to be offered at the uncommon and up level in EVERY pack. Foil commons are worthless because they are worthless to play, not because they are in oversupply.
Not trying to ignite a controversy. Just saying my 2 cents. Regards to both of you. -

Weebo posted a message on Buylist Market Price - an excuse for dealers to rip you off?Buylist market price is the average value of what stores on TCGplayer are actually paying for the card. If there's a large discrepancy between that and listed prices, it typically means that stores on the whole don't think the listed price is sustainable or that there's demand at that price, which is generally a safe assumption during and immediately after a spike. TCGplayer listing prices based on what cards are actually moving isn't trying to rip anyone off, it's providing more accurate information about sales. Adding market price for sold cards was a great move to increase transparency and mitigate the price impact of buyouts (also note that market price for Scorched Ruins in your screenshot is only $13, so cards aren't necessarily moving at the listed prices). It makes perfect sense that they would provide that information for buylists as well.Posted in: Market Street Café
If you want to get list prices for cards, list cards instead of buylisting them. It's tough to be sympathetic when the price trend of the card over the last month looks like the spoiler below and you're complaining that you can't easily sell into a spike.I will admit that I wished their algorithms for calculating market prices were more transparent. It's not clear how many sales or what time frame market price represents, so there's still room for improvement. -

Stoogeslap posted a message on The PucaTrade ThreadPosted in: Market Street CaféQuote from bigroom1 »Hello everyone!
So 2 weeks ago I decided I wanted to get back into playing Modern, both online and in paper. Being a returning competitive EDH player and general impulse spender, I had a bunch of sweet EDH cards I wanted to convert!
I identified I wanted to keep my UW edh cards, and turn the other colors into a Modern deck, both paper and online. Remembering when I left that Pucatrade was booming and an excellent way to convert unwanted cards into wanted ones, I listed and sent a buttload of cards on there.
And then I read this thread... I've yet to have a card sent to me in either format, and reading through this, I'm scared it's not gonna happen, and I've just sunk my collection into a meaningless currency. To cap it off, the articles that they've been posting don't fill me with confidence.
Can one of you savvy chaps/chappettes provide any advice about my best course of action here?
As much as things have changed, things are starting to feel like it was in 2016. Here's the skinny w/ some advice to get cards incoming:
1) Make sure you are sending out to be on the "Active Senders" tab.
2) Learn to navigate and stay fresh on the Puca Trade Discord page/site - their you can chat it up w/ other traders and if you become a regular, others will keep you in mind w/ trading. Also, in the trade channels, there is a lot of "recip trading" (Reciprocal Trading, aka 'I scratch your back, you scratch mine') - it's a great way to have cards incoming while staying on the "Active Senders" tab. Also, keeps points consistently in your profile
3) Don't be afraid to solicit Recip Trades. Best was to do this is to go to the "Send Cards" tab and chose "Package Trades." Send out recip requests to anyone you want. Word of advice though - keep track of who you spoke w/ and stay atop of conversations. We all have busy lives & if we do not stay fresh in others' minds, we will be forgotten. Also, keep in mind that if you mention certain cards to others before another, make sure to mention in a current or future conversation, it may be sent out. I keep others in the loop if a card is sent out, as not to look like a con when another commits to you & the card you mentioned is no longer available because you shipped out a previous day.
4) Unless another requests an equal point recip, might be wise not to push for an equal. Sometimes you have less points than another, other times you will have more points in cards available. I try not to bicker about points - it's a fast way to make a recip trade not happen.
5) Be patient. Some weeks will feel like famine, while others like a feast. Don't be discouraged.
6) When recip trading, there are certain rules all of us going by, such as not recip trading Promoted Trades, or no bounties are to be collected. Whatever it is, as long as it is reasonable, go w/ it. By being argumentative, you might discourage a recip trade.
7) You can find value to trade in the most unusual spots: try looking through your basic lands from Mirage - yup, some are a dollar or more. I personally will trade off an basic land that is 40 points or more. Look through "package trades" for those w/ a lot of Promoted Trades for commons/uncommons that you have. It might just be a play set of 40 cent cards, but to another, they might be Promoting the cards from 40 points to 75 points... that's a 300 point package, not too shabby.
8) It's easy to run out of fuel to trade. Try Craigslist, sweetmeats/flea markets, apps like OfferUp and LetGo to find others selling bulk commons & uncommons for a fraction of their cost. And remember, it's OK to haggle, even if the price is already good. Many commons & uncommons that are viewed as bulk, will not only pay for the lot, but also can be highly sought after on Pt (& might even be Promoted). Sometimes buying blindly (making an offer w/o knowing or seeing all of the cards being offered) in Apps like OfferUp can yield hidden treasures that will surprise you & have you thinking "Did they even know card "X" was in this lot?" - but that makes it a gamble. If you want to try for estate slaes, go for it, but there are rarely Magic to be found at them... BUT, from what have heard from others, when there are Magic cards, it's usually classic high value since those cards came from collectors who had the money to buy the great cards when the game was still young.
9) Lastly, there's an "Allies" option in which those you have traded with are placed in an "allies" tab. This makes it easier to find those whom you befriend or trade a lot with. I have a couple real time friends among mine, and also those whom I have had more than 1 recip trade with. I find myself going back to those whom I've recipped with on many occasions. When I've been low on points, I freely send out (w/o requesting a recip trade) to those that are Allies. And you will see the same happen to you- random send out from those you have recipped/sent out to in the past.
With Puca Trade, I must have built around 45 decks in the past 3 years & at least 15 Commander decks.
This now about networking as well as creating new friendships, even if they are solely through Puca Trade. Things may never be the same before the site update of 2017, but in you learn to adapt, there will be many new decks in your future costing a fraction of what they would be from TCGPlayer or your LCG. -

Quote from necrogenesis »Seems to be confirmed at this point.
If you don't mind my asking, confirmed by whom?
Dealers have been opening boxes and posting numbers on reddit. Also, Maro recently posted on his twitter. I'll try to find some links and update this post.
EDIT:
https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/7i8aif/rosewater_on_foil_unstable_land_rarity/
From that thread:
"Your chance of getting any foil basic Unstable land is only 1/4th your chance of getting any foil basic in a Normal set."
"We opened 252 boxes with 69 foil basics, so one foil basic in 3.5 boxes." -

Quick blurb from the road.
I definitely like fetch Expos better than non-rock Inventions or non-Force Invocations. That said, a couple things to note.
1) Signed cards are cool, but you’re limiting your market. Some people don’t want to touch them, preferring their cards to be pristine.
2) Do you have a prospective trading partner for the end goal? Someone who has a dual/City waiting for you? If so, make sure that you’re trading for what they want.
3) “A dual or a City” is kind of a vague goal. Are you looking to make a high-powered EDH deck? Or are you just looking for something reserved to eventually turn into something even better?
4) Cash is king. Good job getting him to make up the difference with cash.

That's not at all why a shockland will never be a penny. Shocklands are expensive because they're heavily played in Modern and EDH, and thus there's significant demand for them. There are definitely rares that are worth a fraction of the price of a booster pack. The store isn't losing money on selling those because they're selling other rares (typically, in a set that includes them, shocklands) for more than the price of a pack.

Bomat Courier and Soul-Scar Mage are looking good in Standard right now, at least for the next few months. However, I really like the foil Daredevil. That's a card that will only get better as more cards get printed and definitely has Modern potential. Not sure I'd trade for the Khenra now, but if you have a Standard deck that wants it, then go for it. If the Chandra is extra, you could do a lot worse.

All of them are related to Najeela, the Blade-Blossom, who is apparently ridiculously popular. A card that makes Warriors, a combo piece that lets you untap lots of lands and go infinite with Najeela, and a big fat Warrior that protects your other Warriors.

Even now that seems like a steal. TCG mid on the cards you traded in is about $100, $220 even if you value the store credit as much as cash. Trop listings on TCG start at nearly $300. Maybe the store owner wanted to unload some slow moving inventory?[/quote]
I looked up the buylist values back in April, and assuming that his local store gave him TCGBuylist in credit it was about even with prices for MP Trops. That's mostly why it didn't get smacked down as a brag post.

I think I'd probably try to get a little more - Grothama, Lannery, and Kari are pretty much $1ish throw-ins. I do like getting into foil Botanical Sanctum, but Chandra's more than just a Standard role-player. Sanctum is going to $9 at market, but LP copies are available all day at $7. I'd probably want two foil Sanctums for my Chandra.

I have my Orb in a perfect fit, in a regular sleeve, in a binder in a fire safe. I'm looking into Perfect Hards; they seem to be a "better" option than just perfects, because of a slight increase in protection against accidental bending, but honestly I never take it out of the binder, so it's probably fine.
It was a great buy. You are definitely overvaluing your cards. Heck, if you'd given him an UL USea, I would've called it a fair trade - there are only 1100 of these in existence!
You are correct in saying that it's impossible to know the exact price. A LP Alpha Orb sold on eBay last month for about $1.2k. Two others sold for best offers since then, probably for similar amounts. So that's around where I'd peg the value.
Grading is "worth it" if you can get a 10. You can't get a 10, so I wouldn't bother.
No, ripping them up was just an urban legend. Although some of the WOTC playtesters were brutal (decks went in blenders, and got glued together).

Bottom line: If you're buying at $15, you're probably neither going to make nor lose significant money.
