    Fair enough Monocle

I'm simply saying that, either way, it doesn't change the actual decklist. :3

Quite true. Do people feel that, whichever one is picked as the Mistake - sorry, Mythic - Rare, we're probably looking at Gerrard Capashen, Legacy Weapon, Urza's Rage, and Coalition Victory for the Coalition? Phyrexians are probably going to have Arena, Plaguelord, Scuta, and <insert obligatory Reserved card and watch blood pressures rise in both camps> - or maybe just Colossus.

Does it really matter (beyond aesthetics) what rarity something is in a Duel Deck? I mean, if we assume that Gerard Capashen, Urza's Rage, Coalition Victory, and Legacy Weapon are all in the deck, then does it really matter which one is mythic, so long as the other ones are still in there, even at rare? It's a purely market-based decision. Urza's Rage is probably the sexiest card, and Gerard makes the most sense flavorfully, but I'd go with Legacy Weapon over anything else because Gerard is terrible, and it feels weird having the "mascot" of a deck be an Instant, no matter now sexy it is.

Well, the mythic is foil with new art. For some of us, that's the entire reason for buying the damn thing.

well it seems that each store has gotten one of these cards, I talked with a few other game store owners and they each got only one. so buy them while they are cheap, seems like if there are that rare they will go up, just my 2 cents.

edit $1000 is just crazy and way to high

Actually, if they follow the trend of the last three holiday cards, they'll peak in the $40-$50 range for a month or so, then people will forget about them and they'll drop to the $30-$40 range, until next Christmas, when they'll climb again. I paid about $38 for mine, including shipping.

I like how the card wins the game. Not you. :p

Hmm, I wonder if Yawgmoth counts as an opponent for purposes of Platinum Angel.

Zaphrasz has a point. Way back when Rosewater was doing that series that defined the modern color pie, he mentioned Ozymandias from Watchmen as a white flavored villain. Sure, he did a lot of good, halting a nuclear war and everything, but let's be real: To do so, he killed millions and millions of people. The phrase "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" is White. Some of the most horrible acts in history, and especially the history of the Magic storyline, have been taken for the so called "greater good".

I wrote a lot more, and then I decided that I was getting too preachy, and probably too wordy. So I'll just say this:

I think that a lot of the backlash might be because people are seeing White as hypocritical? They're "supposed" to be the good guys, while everyone expects Black to be the bad guys.

In the Kamigawa block, Toshiro Umezawa is the good guy and he is a black card. Conversely, Takeshi Konda is the bad guy and he is a white card. So Black does not necessarily equal evil and white does not necessarily equal good.

Yeah, that's what I mean. WOTC came out and said that in Kamigawa block, they were trying hard to have the white villain and the black hero. I was suggesting that this block was an intentional anomaly, and asking for more evidence to back up the claim that

If you analyze the Magic colorwheel thoroughly enough and look at examples from various blocks (Like most of Kamigawa's legends) you'll find that White is a more evil color than black, just in a more subtle indirect way.

I'm looking for the examples outside Kamigawa.

Can you give us some examples other than the block where WOTC outright stated that the White guy was the bad guy and the Black guy was the good guy?

Quick Point about Mono-black being featured so much:
Black, although not technically the "evil" color of mana, consistently has characters of less-than-reputable quality, who serve as foils to characters who possess a firmer moral compass. So, expect black to be featured in quite a few, as one can't look at Mono-Red and say, EVIL!, you need a black splash for that to happen.

Who says that Duel Decks have to be about "Good" versus "Evil"? Neither Jace nor Chandra is inherently good/evil. Elves and Goblins are neither good nor evil. Heck, Liliana isn't really evil. All you need are two opposing viewpoints that don't even have to be enemy colors (although it helps).

Art for the angel really looks like the one from Slave of Bolas. The artist must be Steve Argyle.

You are correct. So sayeth The Man Himself.

Where can we pick these up at?

eBay, or another online merchant, my friend. Expect to drop $50. If you wait until February, when the hype's died down, you can probably save ten bucks, but they're not cheap.

Alright, now that you've all agreed that this is stupid, I just want to repeat the question that made me bump the thread in case anyone has information beyond "I think this is stupid"

I spoke to my F"L"GS's owner, and he said that he's going to charge me $12, although he can definitely see the price going up.

This is the funniest Happy holidays card ever! I hope next year they do something related to planeswalkers or something.

    e.g. Nicol Bolas's Christmas Tree ~:1mana::symw::symb::symg:~

    Artifact
:symtap:: If you want magic: the gathering cards for christmas, Nicol Bolas's Christmas Tree deals 5 damage to target creature or player.

Nah, it should only deal damage if you wanted them and didn't get them.

    Nicol Bolas' Christmas Tree ~:1mana::symr::symg::symg:
    Legendary Artifact - Tree
:symw::symtap:: You and target player who got you Magic cards for Christmas each gain 7 life.
:symu::symtap:: Each player who got you Magic cards for Christmas draws a card. Choose a card that you got and put it into your hand.
:symb::symtap:: Each opponent who didn't get you Magic cards for Christmas discards a card.
:symr::symtap:: Nicol Bolas' Christmas Tree deals 3 damage to target player who didn't get you Magic cards for Christmas, or target creature he or she controls.
:symg::symtap:: Each player who got you Magic cards for Christmas puts a 1/1 green Fruitcake creature token that is indestructible into play.

"You got me an angel for Christmas? Just what I always wanted." -Nicol Bolas

    Wow lol.
Awesome card, not very playable, but still cool. You get these how?

    Against the last three? Meh.

You get one by having a good working relationship with WOTC. "Customer", unfortunately, isn't good enough. Which means that we, the unwashed masses, must resort to bribery, skulduggery, or other underhanded methods of online purchase. Your FLGS MIGHT be willing to sell a copy, but it's definitely a might, and five people who wanted it more already got there and asked about it.

In this case, the difference is apparently that the optimist is supporting his case with specific evidence and the pessimist is saying "I know my position doesn't really make sense, but I think it'll happen anyway." How Suspicious...

More like "I know that it's unlikely, but I can't shake the admittedly unreasonable idea that this might happen."

And all I'm saying is that WOTC knows better, lol.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the difference between an optimist and a pessimist.

For our next act, Greven and I will talk about something completely different - mana with three buttocks.
