Goodness its almost as though he's a character encountering people to who he has a deep emotional connection rather than a detached observer. I'm sure they'll get right on fixing that.
He has to be pretty naive to let himself get carried away like that. Even as he decided to alter the past, it should be pretty obvious that he'd have written himself out of those people's lives, no matter how attached he is to them. It's the kind of reasoning I'd expect from a character in a kid's cartoon, not from stories aimed at young adults. And even then, the "lovingly holding an attacking globin" thing is just plain ridiculous for a non-comedy, even if it's aimed at kids.

(And to get a sense of your perspective, when did the Magic storyline stop holding appeal for you?)
The last physical books I purchased were the ones from the original Ravnica block. I got very disillusioned at all the retconning and deus-ex machinae during Time Spiral, and have been more of a casual observer since them (by contrast, I was very heavily invested in the game's lore before then).

I seriously don't understand how this time traveling is supposed to make any sense. I can accept that Sarkhan gets back to the present. What I can't accept is that the timeframe gets just perfectly altered so that we will have different versions of past characters.

I can't think of any story involving time travel where it doesn't work like that.
That's because those stories don't generally go back in time a THOUSAND years. Way too many variables in such a large amount of time. There's no way those exact same people would be there with such an extensive lenght to a butterfly effect; chances are none of them would.

And yes, I understand they're playing to expectations; people naturally want to see how characters changed in response to the altered events of the past. For me, however, the required suspension of disbelief is so massive ends up ruining any natural expectations I might have had about that. It's basically a saturday morning cartoon plot, but presented with a straight face.

EDIT: And the way Sarkhan not only expected those same people to be there, a thousand years later, but also expected them to recognize him, going so far as to enthusiastically hold a goblin that was in fact attacking him... it's too much, man. Can't take that stuff seriously. That's a comedy scene right there.

Sarkhan: "Screw this world I've always wanted! One person that I barely know may or may not be dead in it! SCREW IT, I say!"

I mean what lol. Tarkir is such a dumb place. Let's just hurry up and get to Magic Origins stuff, because Tarkir's story is nonsensical.
You know, I haven't enjoyed Magic storyline in a big way for quite a while now, but this is the single time I thought one of their plots was unequivocally, eye-rollingly, FUNDAMENTALLY bad. This last Uncharted Realms requires such an astonishing level of disbelief suspension that I just can't do it.

I'm not a fan of straight-faced time travel in general, mainly because in the end I haven't ever seen anyone make it truly believable. But this goes beyond even my worst expectations for this block.

Blah. I hate to be a naysayer, but man, this was BAD.

Also, does anyone else find it pretty ironic that both the Heartpiercer Bow and the Vial of Dragonfire are invented by Jeskai and used by Mardu/Kolaghan?

Speaking of irony, there's one thing that I find somewhat staggering. If you look at the homelands of each of the clans, most of them actually live in the regions associated with the colour they have lost.
The Jeskai live in mountains, the Sultai in the jungle and the Mardu on the open plains.

Only the Temur and Abzan are living in a habitat that makes sense for the reduced colour-pairs, though a desert seems a bit more black to me than green, but at least the white fits.
The deserts of the Abzan seem more white, but they could be construed as black too, I think. As for the Temur, I think their tundras are certainly blue (or at least blue-white). It's an interesting tidbit anyway, and I'm pretty sure it's intentional.

posted a message on [[MTGO]] Vintage Masters announced
They do something online players have been clamoring for ages, in order to actually make it possible to play Vintage in there. And people complain about how stupid WotC is that they're not doing this IRL as well.

    Oh, people sometimes. Rolleyes

This is something for online players. If it's not for you, it's not for you. No need to be a jerk and try to rain on someone else's parade.

posted a message on Extended officially being retired
Extended used to be my favorite format back when I started going to my local store on a regular basis, circa 2000. I thought Standard had too small a card pool to choose from - which is kinda funny, since my favorite constructed format has since become Block Constructed.

I have many good memories of playing stuff like ScepterChant, DracoExplosion, and
Winter Orb White Weenie back in the day.

Let a previously great format RIP.

If you intend to play standard in the future, my advice is wait for Theros and build a block constructed deck. Single-set block constructed is a great format to make a profit, and pretty much all of the cards (except the most sought-after mythic rares) are incredibly cheap initially.

posted a message on Layout feedback
It feels much smoother to me. I think the current site has a sort of a dated quality to it, especially regarding the top menu.

The bottom news placing doesn't bother me, especially since it's not supposed to be the main focus of the site anyway (right?).

posted a message on MTGO is a cesspool.
Trash talking is forbidden by the code of conduct. I'm willing to give them some leeway in a frustrating game (say, if they didn't draw a third land for several turns). But if they start throwing personal insults, I always report them, and you should too. It helps make MTGO a more friendly environment.

Just talk to an ORC and ask him for the link to report bad player behavior. It takes no more than a couple of minutes.

OMG it's 20 pages in thread and you are still discussing Gideon and there are still guys who think he is so great? Gosh.

I mean maybe he will turn up to be mediocre instead total trash, but praising him as he is second Christ coming? Well.. He is a just big dumb indestructible creature that can be just chumpblocked and killed in combat
No, he cannot be killed in combat.

20 pages in, and people still haven't taken the time to read his second ability, huh? Smile

Sweet, that seems in line with Simic.

Should be noted, the text doesn't look like an official card, more like a MTGO card. Also, doesn't seem too powerful, which kind of makes me sad. I love Simic.
It doesn't look like a MTGO card - it looks like a Magic Set Editor card. Hence, probably fake.
