  • posted a message on You Make the Card 4 (YMTC4) - Sketch Winner
The bad news is I'm gonna have to suffer through this bad art on this bad card a lot in the future, since I expect to get passed this a lot in draft.

This whole experiment actually makes me want them to never do another YMTC again.

  • posted a message on How hard is it for MTGO to go Mac Native?
There is no such thing as a mac problem.
No offense, but this makes you sound like an Apple fanboy.

As someone who uses PCs at home and has been working on Macs for almost ten years, let me tell there are, in fact, Mac problems. I'd say roughly as much as there are PC problems. I haven't experienced a significant problem due to my personal computers being Windows-based for over a decade now, and unless you're an extremely inexperienced computer user, you shouldn't either.

  • posted a message on Extended officially being retired
Extended used to be my favorite format back when I started going to my local store on a regular basis, circa 2000. I thought Standard had too small a card pool to choose from - which is kinda funny, since my favorite constructed format has since become Block Constructed.

I have many good memories of playing stuff like ScepterChant, DracoExplosion, and
Winter Orb White Weenie back in the day.

Let a previously great format RIP.

I feel B is the best, but I can't even bother enough to go vote in the official poll. Card's too damn unexciting, sadly. :/

That's what I'd do. Not easy, but you seem to have done a very good job. Only the "I hate B" one doesn't make much sense to me. I'd expect more along the lines of Angel of Jubilation.
My idea was to showcase how black has a hard time dealing with enchantments. I agree it turned out a little more subtle than the other ones.

  • posted a message on 1 CMC Mana Rocks
Even the new version might be pushing it. Rosewater recently said in his Tumblr that, according to development, the Diamonds are off-limits for standard due to being too cheap, so you can only imagine what they would say of about a 1-CMC cycle.

I agree with them. Making good acceleration at two mana or less is stepping too much into green's side of the color pie IMO. Obviously the odd Mox will end up getting printed, but those are few and far between.

Those all feel white to me, since they are pretty heavy rules-setting. I do love me some rules setting, but I think you could add a bit of variation to the costs and P/T.

  • posted a message on New "nephilims"
I've been thinking about how to create a cycle of 4-color cards that truly felt like 4-color cards. The solution I stumbled upon is to have each card be the antithesis of the missing color in its cost, hosing some aspects of that color's identity or helping something that color tends to have a hard time with. I also wanted to make them broad enough so that they don't feel like mere color hosers. And thus these were born. Comments appreciated. Smile

  • posted a message on Do you keep track of your MTGO account "balance."
I don't, at least not in an overly organized manner. The reason is I see MTGO as one of the most fun pasttimes I have, and keeping track of account balance and such minutia would kinda ruin the experience for me.

Of course, I still try to spend my tickets responsibly, because I like to keep my spending there to a minimum. It seems to work for me - I haven't had to buy tix in a while thanks to profits from tournaments and articles.

Seems uncommon to me too. If accurate, this is pretty big news as a black sorcery that adds mana, even if it's not a net positive in the end. Maybe they're giving some limited ritual capabilities back to the color?

  • posted a message on I miss when games for the PC always came in hard copies
    Quote from mandelbrot
Hard copies should go the way of the dodo. Not only is downloading faster (more often than not) and easier than going to the store, but by cutting the middleman you reduce the cost of the game which is beneficial for both the consumer and the developer who will have a bigger profit margin.
I'm more than willing to shell out a bit more to have a physical hard cover, with a booklet and assorted cool inserts. Same thing with my music - I have never paid to download a track in my life, yet my CD collection keeps growing each month. Alas, my breed seems to be a dying one.

  • posted a message on [[M14]] Opportunity
Blue-white control is my favorite kind of deck, and even I think the new instant-speed default for blue card drawing is dangerous.

EIther way, this card brings back many awesome memories of when I started playing. Can't beat the old Urza art, though. Smile

  • posted a message on Inexpensive competitive decks for dailies.
If you intend to play standard in the future, my advice is wait for Theros and build a block constructed deck. Single-set block constructed is a great format to make a profit, and pretty much all of the cards (except the most sought-after mythic rares) are incredibly cheap initially.

  • posted a message on going to time more often..
    Quote from Hasp
I don't think it's anything specific other than people on MTGO seem to be a little more analytical with their plays.
I'd wager it's more of a consequence of people multi-queueing.

Or maybe they're using the beta. My matches usually take way longer to finish there, thanks to a slower client and a lack of familiarity on my part.
