what is this about ponder un-restricted in vintage speculation? ponder is far better in vintage than preordain. it digs an extra card, which is crucial. i don't know what you mean with preordain. it digs 2-3. never 4.
misstep unbanned is also cool, i agree.
and at clan name: i like the "when the sun goes down, CMB comes out to play" more. but i guess the other one is amusing as well.
In the rumor mill, they started a thread about the bannings that got to about 7 pages before they were actually released. The picture was that of ponder. The rumor mill is not made of people who understand vintage. And I do believe you are agreeing with me.
Misstep got banned. In legacy.
I like [CMB] goes bump in the night.
I did enjoy the speculation about ponder being unrestricted in vintage. A few people decided that it would be unbanned because preordain is just better. Banning it in modern wouldn't do much because they'd still have preordain to smooth their draws with, and preordain is not restricted in vintage, so why should a card that's "worse" be?
It shows you (up to) four cards, guys. FOUR CARDS. For comparison: that's more than brainstorm. MORE THAN BRAINSTORM.
I'm a big fan of mental misstep being banned in legacy. I'd like to play goblins if I can, because taht just made them viable again. And I don't really play any other formats (although I'd love to get into modern), so I probably shouldn't try to look like I know what I'm talking about. See above.
Heartless summoning and liliana are awesome. My favorite 2 black cards from the set. Unburied rights is next, and for a common I'll choose the 1/1 deathtouch for 1. He'll probably be a house in limited.
Modern:
Blazing Shoal is banned. - Not a big surprise, but not exactly expected. Pitch decks are scary though.
Cloudpost is banned. - Expected. It's format warping.
Green Sun's Zenith is banned. - Okay, this one I did not see coming. It does kind of hit the same marks SFM does though. It's just too easy.
Rite of Flame is banned. - This and Chrome Mox? Not a big surprise but I think it was tolerable.
Ponder is banned. - Not a surprise.
Preordain is banned. - Not a surprise.
That pair of cantrips just made things too easy. You can still play Sleight of Hand and Serum Visions in a pinch.
That Ancestral Vision and JtMS are still on the list seems unnecessary. Either way, I get to play Martyr again and roll zoo players.
Legacy
Mental Misstep is banned. - Expected. Misstep and Dismember were fairly egregious mistakes.
Edit: EDH updates
Erayo is banned as a general.
Shahrazad is banned.
Lion's Eye Diamond is unbanned.
LED being off the list is nice. It opens up some fun avenues of play, like Bomberman, Infernal Tutor/Ad Nauseum plays, and some very all-in turn 1s.
I guess they're trying to give modern a large ban list now so they can fluctuate power levels both ways later on. People will hate getting ponder taken away, but they'll love getting it back. I think GSZ got banned because it would shift aggro to being the best deck type - control was not present at the last pt, and they're trying to kill early combos, so aggro could be a problem.
Banning misstep in legacy takes a huge load off of that format. I get to play vial decks again! Goblins might come back!
He's hexproof, so a lot of removal doesn't work. This makes him a really safe carrier of equipment, and a pretty vicious one (supported in the role by Invisible Stalker). He's a quick enough clock even without equipment that he gets good value out of removal (I'm thinking Tumble Magnet and Gideon here).
He will probably push invisiblade back into UW from UG. He'll push mine there if no one else's. The set needs a path to exile though...
I realize in legacy there are some better alternatives, but the reason I don't use them is probably because i don't have any, and I don't have the money for them.
As a general rule: four mana should win you the game. Five mana should win you the game on the spot. More than that is a big stretch.
With that in mind, I'd make room for some duress (a recent common) and hymn to tourach (which shouldn't be more than $2, but I think it's $1). Haymakers in casual like life's finale and sheoldred, the whispering one are the ones that I'd cut. and I'd add at least one tectonic edge, which is a recent uncommon, to deal with pesky lands like tabernacle at pendrell vale and maybe wreck someone's mana if you're lucky.
I do have to say, though, I'm liking the vampire nighthawk/gatekeeper of malakir love.
MDenham, the game doesn't keep track of the number of turns, players do. Serra Avenger is fine since it's easy to remember in the very early game how many turns have been taken. after the 1st 3 turns people tend to quickly lose track. can't expect folks to remember what turn they're on in the middle or late game
as for fixing homarid, i like to use +1/+1 or -1/-1 counters. if we're going to throw transform into the mix, how about something like this:
Flowing Homarid2U
Creature - Homarid Warrior C
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a +1/+1 counter on Flowing Homarid. Then, if Flowing Homarid has three or more +1/+1 counters on it, transform Flowing Homarid.
1/1
// Ebbing Homarid
(Blue) Creature - Homarid Warrior
At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a +1/+1 counter from Ebbing Homarid. Then, if Ebbing Homarid has no +1/+1 counters on it, transform Ebbing Homarid.
1/1
... I believe the counters remain the same on the card as it transforms. they don't fall off right? not sure, too lazy to check at the moment.
I think this is probably one of the better versions. The only flaw I see is that it doesn't start at its middle state like the original, and the templating to put that on there is really ugly, and breaks the symmetry of the two sides. I'm not sure it's something that really needs fixing, though.
The one thing I have to say about this is for skyjacker dragon. The others are pretty solid and look balanced to me (Except born aloft has a wording issue?), but the dragon:
I wouldn't say "other creatures can't fly" and then put the ACTUAL wording in reminder text. The flavor gets across - he's the only thing in the sky when he's around.
I do not see it. All I see is "Last edited by ZombieAngel666 : Today at 06:46 PM. Reason: or may it's not there ? hmm"
You should change that a bit because it won't apply to all your posts. Your sig goes on everything.
Cellar door is unqiue as far as I know, which might land it a spot in my peasant cube. Tinkering with the cube is my main magic outlet these days, although bloodgift demon, Liliana 2.0 and all the awesome looking zombie cards in Innistrad are calling to me...
It's unique among cards you can put in your cube, but I've seen lots of milling from the bottom in custom cards.
I'm liking the krosan reclamation+. This set looks awesome.
So the red yagmoths will might be the reason visions got a awkward ban in modern,it combined with wheel of fate seems like amazing draw parts for combo decks.
As luminum can said, you can't do that, but it could get rite of flame banned. I know I read an article that wanted it to be banned over ancestral vision, as well as some other changes.

I seem to be in and out right now. Sorry guys.
Because it isn't JUST a mana leak or a dismember or a ponder. It acts as all three. Find me a card that does all of those things.
The card is not as good as some people think, but it's still pretty busted.

Against the first one I keep the fountain tapped down (to prevent paying extra mana to target it with either), and the second I keep the crusader.

Of course, some nice limited common dudes.

Strip Mine is banned. And I like that one too.
I'm pretty sure that works.
