Well, from my experience at the pre-release today, I can say that both the Baloth and Angel are bombs when you can drop a land right after. The other thing that did really well were the green beasts that get bigger with landfall (too tired to get names right now) and the blue eel that flies with Harrow. Harrow being an instant is just wrong. It's brutal and makes pumping those creatures so easy. This can be easily applied to these guys too. Maybe we have to think more aggressively and run something with the creatures that get bigger and run a pretty standard beats deck with mana accel? Ok, this was just a bunch of rambling, but I hope you get something out of it.
P.S. I got the Angel today and the pre release card is the Baloth for those of you going to events tomorrow.
I'm open to other colors, but for some reason I'm thinking for consistency's sake I'm really stuck on keeping it G/W but the small splash for blue is an interesting idea for something like the Clarion Ultimatum. This is an interesting twist on the deck idea. I was wondering if this deck was where the ultimatum would finally get to shine, but I'm worried that it costs too much for the deck to be as effective when we cast it. Am I over thinking this?
Ok, first off, I don't know if this is the right place for this, but this deck is not going to be budget since all of the creatures are rare and some cost some money to get. This is also a fishing trip to see if anyone really thinks this idea is even possible (anything is, but how likely is this one possible?). So, to get to the idea here:
Sphinx are running rampant right now. They have never been printed this often and so close to each other allowing for someone to play a possible tribal themed deck with them. I'm wondering if the new meta will be slow enough to support a traditional control deck and have these big beaters be the wincons of the deck. Here's a list of all the sphinxes available so you know what I'm talking about:
I think there's something here, but I'm really not sure if attempting this as a control deck or a crazy ramp deck to just beat face with them is the way to go. For some reason I keep leaning towards control. I'm not much of a control deck builder, that's why I'm skeptical about building this deck as a control deck, but it just feels right.
Is there anyone out there that has thought about this? Anyone try it? I know that basically it would be Esper control, but I'm not sure how different you can make the deck. With some of the new cards ( see Sorin Markov) I think we can bring in a new feel to the deck.
I'm just curious how your deck runs. Is it meant to be a control deck or a beatdown deck? I'm just worried if there's enough cards to go either way. What kinds of decks have you played against and how did you do against them? I'm talking about general deck builds since we don't know exactly how the meta is going to look here soon.
The point of Garruk is to get more permanents out there (tokens) and he comes with the option of ramping faster into the WW (+1 ability). He's helpful, but some decks can use him really well while others, not so much. He's one of those cards I personally don't want to play him in my WW deck, but that's just me.
Ok, so this is difficult to start up, but I really want to help with developing a deck that could do really well on the tournament scene. I'm very intrigued by this whole landfall mechanic and I really want to do something with it (basically I hope this is good outside of Limited). The first thing that I thought of was getting 3 lands into play in one turn with Knight of the Reliquary to get out 3 beast tokens with Rampaging Baloths and Terramorphic Expanse and the land that you play that turn. With that, I wanted to take advantage of all these lands coming into play and wanted to do something with them, but there's too much that I want to put into this deck. So, here's what I have right now:
EDIT: As you can see, I don't have a sideboard because those are really difficult for me to build properly, so I was hoping for some help with that too.
Basically, what I'm hoping is to be able to play at least 3 lands a turn, but my biggest fear is that I might create too much mana and play out my hand too quickly and not be able to keep anything in my hand so I don't lose tempo. Can I get any help here?
I guess the main goal of the deck is to swarm my opponent with lots of creatures and get them big and hard to deal with (see: Planeswalkers). I could break down all my choices, but I really don't want to and I hope that you can give me some ideas on these cards. I chose what I chose because it fits into my theme and some of these cards look like fun to play with. Can't blame me for that, right? The one card that I'm not so sure about is the Oracle. I am also wanting to go over 60 on this deck and/or get more land into the deck. Is this the right call for a deck like this?
Constructive help and criticism are helpful here and I bet there are enough people that want to help with something like this anyway, so, post away and tell me what you think.
P.S. I just kinda built this deck with the spoiler and what cards I could think of off the top of my head, so it's not optimized like I know it can be.
The biggest problem with your deck is the lack of threats. There really isn't anything in the deck that stands out as something I as your opponent needs to deal with. Why not some big beaters like Darksteel Colossus and Progenitus? Thornling and Behemoth are good creatures, but imo, not game breaking when they hit the table. What about another color for some other big creature options or you can go with a ramp/combo deck that ramps up to 4 or 5 colors to be able to play anything and all the deck manipulation to really mess with your opponent? For some reason Lilliana Vess seems to be screaming to be in here. But that's just me.
Wow, that new version is a little wonky from what I see here. You aren't playing very heavy on the green yet you want Birds in there. I personally, with what you have here, would drop the birds for Rampant Growth because then you don't have to mess with your mana base to try and support the first turn Birds. BTW, Remove Soul is no longer in Standard, you want Essence Scatter... yeah, it's the same card, just new name and I, like many others, are bummed about this.
Hell, look at a card like Doubling Season. It goes for roughly $12+ but it sees no serious play at all. The casual market will also dictate the prices of cards, and I know many casual players that love Elspeth and planeswalkers in general.
Just as a quick note, Doubling Season is not Standard legal right now. Don't know if it will ever get reprinted.
I would rather go with Dramatic Entrance because in theory, you will win the turn you play the big fatty or make your opponent do stuff they weren't expecting to have to do. Your opponent has a chance to deal with your Elf, but only control decks can do anything about Dramatic Entrance, especially if it's played at the end of your opponent's turn. My theory here is to not play games with your opponent and just win. That's why I would rather play entrance at the end of my opponent's turn to put Progenitus into play and follow that up with either Rafiq or Finest Hour on my turn and win right then. This can happen my turn 4 with Birds and Hierarchs.
P.S. I got the Angel today and the pre release card is the Baloth for those of you going to events tomorrow.

EDIT: Thanks Kayee, now I don't have to do that.
Deck tags are your friend for those of us that don't know every card off the top of our heads.
