EDIT: Tawnos, check out rianalnn's edit above. Smile

R_E - I must have missed something here. Are you referring to his edit regarding Laika and tea? Honey and rape, isn't that how they serve tea in prison?

Jonny - I haven't caught any of the season 2 episodes of Lost yet. I have them Tivo'd so I can watch them after I finish my season 1 dvd set. Very cool show. Great suspense and mystery in some parts, but can be a little slow at times.

Bel - My overall rare pulls were great, but something seems off with this set. I pulled only single copies of Suppression Field , Telling Time, Reroute and Overwhelm. You would think that with two booster boxes and two tournament boxes I'd have at least each.

So I picked up two tournament boxes this afternoon. Feel like a fool now. The store is selling the tournament boxes for for just $1 more than a regular booster box. Doh!

Picked up x2 Sacred Foundry (1 foil), x3 Overgrown Tomb(!), 1x Watery Grave, 1x Circu, x3 Helldozer (sigh), x2 Loxodon Hierarch, x3 Vinelasher Kudzu, 1x Razia, x2 Hunted Horror, x1 Dark Cofidant, x2 Hunted Dragon....and a whole bunch more that I honestly cannot remember.

Still haven't pulled a single Char, Moonlight Bargain or Autochthon Wurm though.

Alex: Very to sorry to hear about your breakup. Those are never fun. Her loss, at least for the time being. I wouldn't worry too much though. You'll be 'tapping' things again soon enough. Afterall you are a Magic player, and we all know that chicks dig Magic. Just keep hanging and banging playa.

(Note to Self - Personal best. A sexual inneundo disguised as a magic term, and some ebonics thrown in. Good job!)

I'm picking up another box of Ravnica today. Haven't decided what kind of box though. Might go with a tournament box this time instead of a normal booster. The extra uncommons and lands would be nice.

The leaked Guildpact card got me thinking about the set and Counterspell in general.

If Wizards was ever to reprint the greatest hard counter ever, what do you think they'd have to do to get away with it?

To address your question directly, if Wizards decided to reprint the original counterspell we would need to have a standard enviroment choke full of large uncounterable fattie creatures and spells. That was the main reason they removed the spell in the first place -- it was no fun for someone to save up eight mana to hardcast a Force of Nature only to see their opponent turn around and counter the spell for two mana.

Thanks for the suggestions Tawnos, and great banner! Where did you get it? Great pulls too... lucky bugger!

Appreciate the compliment on the banner. It is a Tawnos original. I can do shoppery with the best of em'. In fact all the avatars/banners I've displayed here on Salvation have been original works, as well as several banner images in some of the early Salvation articles.

Opened the fat pack I picked up. The loss of the spindown counter is more than made up for with the deck boxes, land pack, dividers and cardboard life counter. No pulls of real value though in the packs.

I'm back to report on my Ravnica pulls. I ended up just picking up two booster boxes, two pre-cons (Golgari and Boros) and a fat pack. Haven't opened the fat pack yet, but in the two booster boxes I pulled...

2x Watery Grave, 2x Sacred Foundry, 1x Overgrown Tomb, 2x BOP and 1x Circu. My wife opened one of the boxes, and I haven't actually scanned all of her pulls, so there may be a few more gems hidden within. All in all a good two boxes though if I do say so myself!!

Cyan, from the two boxes I pulled I believe the 1 dual per box theory is out the window. Either that or I am extremely lucky.

Cool little story...while I'm at the store my friend (the owner) is busting open tournament packs for singles and land. He pulls a foil Watery Grave and a foil BOP while I am standing there!! OMG

Alex - I echo what the others have said about Warhammer. The game requires mucho dinero, and seems to draw people in more for the miniature painting than for the actual gameplay.

I'm thinking R_E should have some sort of promotion on his website for Ravnica. Perhaps selling complete sets of guild cards. Maybe price the sets a few bucks cheaper than it would be to buy a full set of individual cards.

Don't know why I thought of that, but I did.

R_E: I'd sell the BOPs for $3-$4 more than what they price at for 9th Edition. That's just me though. A black bordered, non-foil version of the card would be worth the price increase to me.

lil' Akroma: I'm not sure on a specific timeframe. All I know is that we just went through this whole ordeal with new members just a short time ago, and I'm not particularly in the mood to repeat the process.

I'm damn excited right now. I just confirmed with one of my local shop owners that I can pick up my boxes of Ravnica tonight after 7:00. So right after work I'll be heading there. A "backroom" transaction so to speak, as the store records won't reflect my purchase until tomorrow morning. Sweet!

And I'd politely like to refrain from voting right now on reducing clan size/initiating new members. We just lost two clanmembers, and I think it would be disrespectful to just up and replace them overnight.

Right speculation, but wrong block. Kamigawa was speculated to be the block were the traditional "good" and "evil" roles of white and black were reversed.

If they keyword all of the guild mechanics then the cip/lp triggers would have to be numerically identical, wouldn't they?

    For example...

    Gruul Kavu - 2RG
    Creature - Kavu
Resonate 1 (when Gruul Kavu comen into play it deals 1 damage to target creature or player, and you add 1 red or green mana to your mana pool)

    2/2

Rally seems too similiar to ninjitsu. If R&D didn't want this mechanic in colors outside of blue or black in Betrayers then I couldn't see them reversing that decision just two sets later.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused on this.

Maro just stated in his Making Magic article on Monday that each guild only makes one appeareance throughout the block. So no Golgari in GP or DIS.

Or am I completely misreading what you wrote?

Edit: Nevermind. I'm a moron. Completely misread R_E's original post. But all of the information the source provided was already covered in Maro's article on Monday. Didn't anybody read it? Guess it was the blue font...

I've purposely been avoiding this thread for the past two days. I didn't want to get involved in an issue that had more to do with personal relationships than it had to do with our clan's thread title. I have spent a great deal of time in other threads lately, something I am coming to enjoy more and more.

Not under this law you wouldn't. The guy is in your house, and no one has psychic powers. That's fear of force right there, as they've already committed a crime!

Again, this law applies only to the use of deadly force when you have a reasonable belief it is necessary to prevent an imminent use of deadly force by the criminal.

It would be difficult to argue that a criminal fleeing the scene of a crime is presents an imminent threat of deadly force against you.

Well, first off, you're contradicting yourself. Do you need to display a fear for your life, or is breaking and entering an inherant threat against the lives of those within, and therefore you are justified under this law in shooting anyone who breaks in?

It depends on the situation. If you wake up in the middle of the night and catch a criminal in the process of robbing your house, right then and there they are indeed an imminent threat to your life. However, I would not consider a criminal that is in the process of fleeing your home an imminent threat on your life. Now if the criminal decides to cease fleeing from the crime and decides to confront you...

Beyond that, citizens don't get to make judgements in the field. Law enforcement is left to the cops for the same reason military grunts aren't allowed to evaluate their orders in the field. Following orders is an absolute. Why? Because if Lieutant Joe Smith decides that President John Smith's order is wrong, it throws a wrench into our defense structure. Citizens don't get to just enforce law when they want, they get to under the dire circumstances that call for self-defese, which is already freaking allowed.

WTF? You completely lost me here. What point are you trying to make on this? Seriously, I don't understand what you're getting at. There is absolutely zero similarity between the military and our citizens when it comes to descritionary decisions.

In the military you cannot disobey a direct order because it would weaken our defense structure like you said, but more importantly could lead to the loss of hundreds, thousands or even millions of lives. The order you disobey could be the one that would have saved your unit from ambush, or perhaps overted a military strike. Who knows.

When does a citizen ever face that kind of responsibility when confronted by a criminal?

    So again, the law either:

    A. Just codifies what is already an accepted legal defense nationwide, and is therefore useless political manuvering to look tough on crime
    or
    B. Expands what self-defense is, which is incredibly dangerous and wrong. By changing self-defense from defending against a threat to defending against an assumed threat you allow citizens everywhere to basically plead murder with a justification, which is rediculous

    C. Protects the average citizen from being sued when the friendly neighborhood burglar is shot one night while in the process of robbing someones home.

If you agree that's shaky, explain why the rest is ok. If punching a guy you're scared of in the face, why is it ok to dole out a greater-than-legally-called-for punishment (like... Killing a guy?) for a crime (say... Breaking and entering?) because you think he might do something. (rather than... calling the police like you're supposed to?)

Because one is related to you acting in response to a crime being commited, and the other is relating to using pre-emptive force to prevent a crime that might not have occurred in the first place. The difference is as clear as night and day.

And feel free to call the police. That is what they are there for, to protect and serve. I just hope the person that enters breaks into your home is only concerned with stealing valuables, and doesn't have more sinister plans in mind. Hope the police arrive in time!

    Sure it does!

Guys robs my house. As I get downstairs he's leaving, I shoot him in the back despite not actually being threatened. He was unlawfully entering my domicile, so I felt threatened (even though he was leaving and hadn't threatened me yet), so I shot him.

You'd most likely be charged and tried for murder. You and your lawyer would need to prove you had a reasonable belief that a use of deadly force by the criminal was imminent, and that you acted to prevent the use of said force. That won't be too easy to do what with the criminal having a bullet wound in the back and all.

QUOTE]And you failed to respond to me, Tawnos. Self-defense is what self-defense is, we have a police force and you are only allowed to take on their duties when your life is in danger, not just because a guy is breaking into your house.
This one is too easy Stax! This new law presumes that anyone who forcibly and illegally enters your home is intent on threatening the lives of the people who dwell within.

You'd disagree on this point??? That someone who forcefully and illegally breaks into your home is not an inherent danger to your life or the life of your loved ones?

    Another dangerous section?

So I can kick a guy's ass (just don't kill him) if I think he might use force on me.

I'll admit this part is a bit sketchy. Use of force to prevent a crime is a very shaky subject.
