the problem is that if they're so proud of making extremely crappy rares in the past.. and seem to be proud or happy to announce this kind of thing as the first info given (aside from the logo) of a set.. that means that most certainly the new "super bad" will be rare.. again..
cause.. i would love it as an enchantment.. but sadly in the current environment enchantments are considered too slow so chances people pick it as an enchantment are really low..
and if it's a creature.. it'll probably be a weakling with many abilities.. when i prefer a powerhouse/timmy creature with the standard fighting skills (a finisher with things like trample, regenerate, strikes (first or double) and such) more than a weakling with unusual abilities
see! that's what i'm telling you.. personally i can't make a card with such drawbacks without adding something special or at least somewhat good in it.. making it completely crappy is an idea i cannot accept.. i mean.. it's a waste of a slot.. ink.. and other things related.. that without considering a waste of time just thinking about it..
i mean.. i can think of a crappy card

legendary creature - ogre
when ~ comes into play sacrifice two mountains
haste
~ can't block
whenever ~ attacks tap two permanents you control or this deals 2 damage to each other creature you control.
at the end of each of your turns if you didn't played a spell that turn, ~ deals 2 damage to you
3/2
but creating such thing is pointless! why would they be so proud of doing so.. to the point they announced it as the first thing known of a block!?!?!?!
i.. can't.. understand.. it.. what's the point.. what's the logic.. can't figure it out.. <explodes>
yeah.. now that i see it.. the discard helps reanimator decks..

at the beginning of your upkeep pay BBB or bury ~ and ~ deals 4 damage to you
whenever ~ is dealt damage, each opponent gains that much life
when ~ deals combat damage, you may return a creature card from your graveyard into play
if you control a demon this gains "B: regenerate" and can't block
You may sacrifice three black creatures rather than pay ~ mana cost.
4/4
dunno.. can't make it totally bad.. there must be something somewhat good in it.. common sense tells me that no one will really make something extremelly bad on purpose.. you've to be mentally ill to do so

when i said RPG like.. or RPG-ish i was talking about the classes.. nor the races..
cause i mean.. i think there'll be a lot of classes that suit in a city environment.. like monks, soldiers, rogues, thieves, assasins, diplomats, merchants, bards, more than using "wilder" classes like druids, hunters and such.. that's what i was talking about
obviously as you said.. a concept used in a RPG like D&D can be used in MTG and the other way around..
but my point was that "wilder" classes won't likely be used
obviously wizards will want their elves back.. but maybe "high elves" or some sort of civilized ones.. maybe more sorceror / mage / battlemage like elves not druid / nature aligned / forest keepers ones..
and maybe goblins, moggs, rats, (cockroach people? lol) and such will be sewer creatures (the way i see it.. it's a plane totally covered by cities.. with no such thing as a natural "haven".. maybe under the cities.. but don't think so)
maybe there'll be more horrors than demons.. all i ask for is.. please.. please.. if they're going to add dragons, don't turn them viashino like.. keep them as the wise but wild creatures they're supposed to be..
btw, no word if it's a city covered plane.. in a "technologic" style or a more "medieval" one right?
also.. as you said.. creature - ship doesn't appeals to me either.. so.. in a city covered plane.. they would need to use artifact creatures.. for things like dirigibles and ships
well.. i'm not being so pessimistic by myself.. what happens is that once they annouced what RAV was about.. i couldn't keep away from my mind "mercadia"
so.. that's the source of my attitude.. all i do now is hope that they learned from the past and create something good in RAV
but honestly.. if there're "big creatures" as you say.. i think there'll be only a few of them.. cause usually cities are places for small "normal" creatures.. so thinking along those lines i don't think that an 11/11 or 8/12 or 7/7 would be roaming free through the city streets..
so maybe there'll be hidden creatures lurking in the sewers or at night.. but they'll probably be only rare or uncommon.. so the common slot will be "filled" by commoners: merchants, diplomats, bards, monks, sailors, soldiers, clerics, swordsmen, fighters, thieves, rogues, assasins, marksmen, etc etc etc (hey..that sounds pretty RPG like).. maybe a couple of barbarians and such.. being those 3/3 or 5/3, 4/2, 3/1 creatures
the good think about this.. is that maybe a couple of good 1 mana creatures will come along.. maybe a good block for blue? who knows..
but i don't see it as a good one for green.. the color of wilderness.. thoughness.. the color of timmy!
but as you say.. maybe "sleeping" creatures like gargoyles and guardians (harbor guardian) may come back
what about "city-covered" lands? just paying "homage" to ice age.. you know.. now that they've been bringing back stuff like winter orb.. that's the only thing left.. redesign the old snow covered lands
Choryo, The Flowing River - 1UU
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard
Tap: Return target creature to its owners hand.
0/2
sorry to interrupt but.. if you want to see choryu you better start clasifying him as a "spirit" (or an artifact? lol) and not exactly legendary
btw.. i think.. no matter how much i hate the idea.. that wizards will leave without cards creatures like moshi.. the all consuming oni of chaos.. and terashii.. just cause wizards always ruins the fun
not to mention smaller characters like pearl ear or sharp ear..
or maybe they'll print only one of them.. cause
Cok: konda & takeno
Bok: toshi & hidetsugu
Sok: Michiko & perhaps either mochi or pearl ear cause are the closest to her story wise.. one her tutor the other "needs" her
or maybe a second O-kagachi spell or the new Takeno??
(the second O-kagachi spell i say is regarding the effect of the great old serpent after the battle in eiganjo)
so there's probably plenty of humanoid races in RAV.. sadly.. cause those usually aren't the most impressive creatures (imho and timmy wise) cause non-hero mortal humanoids usually are more into dexterity than strenght
which is bad.. considering the natural ability (not to call it gift) of wizards in making crappy commons just cause they "need" fillers.. and on top of that those things are usually weaklings.. now having a context were such creatures can be common give me a bad feeling..
imho it's way easier getting a bushido - ninjutsu creature in black than in any other color combination.. according to the current color pie settings of course
btw.. weirdly enough.. talking about common rares.. i got 3 sickening shoals in the same box.. even funnier.. it was the only one repeated
cause.. i would love it as an enchantment.. but sadly in the current environment enchantments are considered too slow so chances people pick it as an enchantment are really low..

in fact is pretty possible.. a 1 cc from each color.. somehow reminds me of a bunch of wandering ones.... so.. w00t there's the first RAV cycle! of 1cc only flavor text filled drops lol
edit: now seriously.. that's pretty possible.. a cycle of townsfolk/commoners.. just like lantern kami and it's buddies and maybe only two with abilities like flying
probably this set will have many U flyers considering that white will most probably be the cleric color.. again..
maybe
white: religious and law/army creatures :Shield1:
blue: scholars, merchants, flying weenies, diplomats, sailors, mages :apirate::Weapon8:
black: thieves, merchants, mercs, and low life (sewer) creatures :Magic7:
red: assasins, warriors, smiths, sorcerors :Weapon1:
green: the beasts of burden, monks, bards, stronger but somewhat not red-like violent sentients :Axe1:

ok.. they don't exactly fit in a city covered plane but i would like them back...
what about dwarves? or lhurgoyvu??
so there could be something like those that can be a samurai ninja..
not exactly legendary but who knows
