Basically, starting from Coldsnap, we had a huge increase of cards into Standard. We had an extra, nonblock related set (Coldsnap), an extra mini-set of reprints (Timeshifted cards), and a four set block (Lorwyn-Shadowmoor). The response from players was that WotC was churning out too much product too quickly. They want to keep a 4-set per year rotation, so their answer was to make base sets and core sets smaller. Makes it easier for collectors and pocket-books in general.
Fear definitely needs to be changed. There are too many minute issues with it all combing to make an ugly keyword, the two biggest issues being (1) the inability to use the keyword in other colors and (2) the unintuitive interaction it has with cards like Sleight of Mind. The two most obvious solutions are:
New Fear (This creature can't be blocked except by creatures that share a color with it.)
or
Fear - [COLOR] (This creature can't be blocked except by artifact creatures or [COLOR] creatures.)
I'm glad to see that they're fixing this grievance. If they insert the new version of the keyword into UBR, they can add a keyword to the short UB list and give a keyword to the non-existent UR list. Should make cycles a bit more interesting, especially multicolor/hybrid cycles.
Callous Stonehorn4G Creature - Rhino Warrior
Trample, guidance (Whenever this creature attacks, another target creature you control gains each of this creature's other abilities until end of turn.)
Follow a rhino and all paths seem open.

You'd need to amend many parts of the comp rules to care about a card's "printed name" rather than name (for instance, 100.2. "A constructed deck can have any number of basic land cards and no more than four of any card with a particular English name other than basic land cards."). The card cares about deck construction the same way Relentless Rats does.
As for applications, they're somewhat limited, and most are probably negative. For every Kindle, there are two Meddling Mages.
Young-Bolts3 Artifact Creature - Golem
Young-Bolts costs 2 less to play if this is your first turn. Academy Credo: Start simple. Tolaria wasn't built in a day.
2/2
Melancholic Stoic2B Creature - Human Cleric
Spells targeting Melancholic Stoic have "Draw a card and you lose 2 life." The priest was unmoved by his own demise, even as the vice shattered his legs.

Vision Mechanation4 Artifact Creature - Golem
You may put a 3/3 Golem artifact creature token onto the battlefield under a random opponent's control instead of paying Vision Mechanation's mana cost. Even robots see themselves in others.

I find myself getting linked to MTGS a bit too often these days to not be a member, so I'm finally joining.
So, first and foremost: Hello!
My name is Rush and I'm a regular over at that other Magic forum (you know, the one with the bizarre "Gleemax" name). In fact, I do some volunteer community work over there as well as some other fun leading activities. I don't play Magic nearly as much as I want to, but I'm a custom card junky going on six years, so much so that I've begun designing various card and board games of my own.
Anyways, looking forward to familiarizing myself with a different Magic community.
When transferring sets from MSE to MWS, many of my templates come out without line breaks. For example, a card using an enchant keyword will come out like this:
Enchant creature Enchanted creatures get...
instead of this:
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets...
Any way to fix this? The actual text files look correct, but loading into MWS is another fish altogether.
