The structure for 2005 Magic: The Gathering Champs, State/Province/Territory/Island Championship tournaments will be modified-Swiss style, with the Top 8 playing in a single-elimination draw for prizes and the title of “State/Province/Territory/Island Champion.”
That was taken straight from the WOTC site fact sheet. If you want to participate this year you have to go to the San Jose Convention Center. Which doesn't seem to be a dinky little store like you stated a couple of pages ago. Just because you seem to think the world revolves around SoCal doesn't make it true. I'll bet there are lots of people that are making the trek up there from your area or even further south.
You are taking this too far in your ranting. You say its your groups most looked forward to event but won't car pool to get there. You are the one not making sense here.
For anyone thinking Rav mechanics will be carried over into Guildpact, this is from MaRo's article "City Planning, Part II" from September 12th:
"Development: What about the other six combinations? Design: They'll show up later. Development: How do we expand upon the first set of guilds? Design: Oh, we don't. We just move on. To be fair, they will get new abilities on mono-colored cards."
I think it is safe to say the Rav guild mechanics are not in the next two sets. Those guilds will have access to new mono colored cards with the new sets' mechanics though.
I voted Dimir but I really like Golgari as well. I guess I'll make my final decision when I see the rest of the set. Who knows I might play both in the same deck.
If you saw the card on the MTG site it says "Creature- Goblin Lord" the rules text says "Other Goblins get +1/+1 and have mountainwalk." followed by the mountainwalk reminder text.
I went 3-5-1 at Great Lakes, Michigan, playing MBC. For whatever reason I didn't think I needed Persecute. I played mostly blue decks (4 of my 5 losses), but when I played anything else I won or drew. I crushed Tooth and Mono Red, but drew to MGA.
As for MUC, I found they were relegated to the lower tables all day long. The top tables were filled with MGA, Tooth and Red. MGA went undefeated and took the championship here.
The only Pre-release for SOK in Michigan is in Detroit, sorry if you can't make it there Turn.

Creatures:
3 Nezumi Shortfang
4 Ravenous Rats
4 Chittering Rats
2 Kokusho
1 Nightmare (Replaced with Kokusho when I can barrow one)
2 Emissary of Dispair
16 total
Spells:
4 Distress
3 Mind Rot
4 Rend Flesh
4 Nights Whisper
4 Consume Spirit
2 Echoing Decay
1 Cranial Extraction
1 Extraplanar Lens
23 total
Land:
21 Swanp
Side Board:
3 Horobi, Death’s Wail
2 Emisary of Dispair
3 Relic Barrier
3 Barter in Blood
3 Hideous Laughter
1 Night of Soul’s Betrayal
15 Total
These are the cards I currently own. I could possibly barrow 2 Kokusho and 3 Cranials. With this build some of my best games have been against Affinity. Right now, I'm about 40% game one vs. Affinity, but that jumps to about 60-65% post board.
Against most of the field I like to get an early Shortfang filp, then close with a Consume or Kokusho. Against Affinity I'll side out the discard spells and bring in Horobi and the barriers along with Laughter and NoSB.
Lobotomy is like Cranial Extraction except that you look at the players hand and choose the card to remove instead of naming any card. It costs 1 black 1 blue and 2 colorless to cast. (sorry I don't know how to do the symbols yet)
edit: Lobotomy can choose any non-land card in hand
Which part of the following don't you get:

The green Ki-Rin (the horse-dragon) looks to be the second big green flier in this block. That seems really wierd.
