he announces the card he is going to remove as memoricide is resolving. you can respond with a boomerang before it resolves but he can name a different card after that..

Not quite. Once it is resolving it is too late to respond to. If you wanted to use boomerang you would have to do so while memoricide is on the stack. Once all players have passed priority the spell resolves, the owner chooses the name of the card, and the graveyard/library/hand are searched. If you wished to boomerang you would have had to cast it while memoricide was on the stack in response. There is no opportunity to respond once the card has been named unless the opponent names the card while casting, in which case this is treated as him offering a shortcut to the resolution of memoricide. If you choose to interrupt his shortcut by casting boomerang in response, he does not have to stick with his choice of boomerang as the shortcut has been broken. He will once again name his card once memoricide finally resolves after boomerang resolves.

if fling was cast before the combat damage step, then your opponent can fling his creature without any effect from dissipation field. the creature will not be bounced even if it dealt damage with fling because sacrificing the creature is part of the cost for fling. dissipation field will look for the creature that dealt damage to its controller when the damage registers but the creature will no longer be in play.

Do note that while this is correct, you could also allow the creature to perform combat damage to the player. Once the combat damage is done, dissipation field will trigger attempting to return the creature to the opponent's hand. The opponent may play fling in response to the dissipation field trigger and successfully fling the creature before dissipation field's trigger resolves.

the problem i see with shape anew is that unlike polymorph, you cannot use it without having artifacts in the deck. there are cards that make creature tokens without having to run creatures, but i dont think there are any cards that make artifacts that arent artifacts themselves, though i could be wrong. i have to say livewire lash is good though. adding pump to burn spells is really good. and its only one more to play and the same to equip as darksteel axe.

    Dread Statuary
    Stone Idol Trap
    Tuktuk the Explorer
Thada Adel, Acquisitor (Requires opponent to have artifacts in deck AND for Thada to land a hit to the dome... pretty narrow)

    And that's all she wrote.

I don't really see destroying journey with elspeth's ultimate as a problem since you've got sun titan to get them back on better targets and journey will never get rid of planeswalker or artifact, i've posted my list in the UW decklist section if you want to see it.

And for now there's not so much arguments in favor of journey over condemn cauz of all the artifact/enchantement hate that sees plays and the lack of fauna shaman decks.

Except you sweep the board clean of everything except your elspeth and then your opponent's creatures come back into play from JtN. Seems like a bad thing.

If there was a card getting mythic treatment in the set it would be on the front for marketability wouldn't you think?

  • posted a message on Creature bounce vs. Grafted Exoskeleton
The equipment would become unattached when the bounce resolves and the creature is returned to owner's hand. At that time the exoskeleton would trigger to force the sacrifice of the creature which would do nothing as the creature is no longer present.

It is okay, I still prefer Banshee though, as the B mana is worth the 3 life loss of your opponent.

Banshee is a better topdeck once you've surpassed 4 mana available but Scudder makes up for the 3 life loss on the opponent by swinging a turn earlier from your starting hand.

Uh yeahhhh Jace, the Mind Sculptor... he was selling for $30 pre-sale prices

edit: also... 2:10 central time now... 8:50 to go!

Jace falls into the misevaluated category. He wasn't spoiled weaker than his actual attributes.

The Ratchet Bomb is good, but I prefer the "on your upkeep you may" rather than tap to add a counter. Nothing worse than seeing removal on the other side of the field and his board looks like:

Bird, Elf, Pridemage. You have 1 counter.

Old: During Upkeep Add a counter Triggers, he blows pridemage, you blow the keg and get a 3-1
New: EoT you tap Bomb to add a counter, he blows pridemage and you trade.

Sure it can take out PW, but are you really going to be able to keep this out for 5 turns while your opponent is running Jace or Koth?

Keg wipes on the turn it has the desired counter. You wipe on the turn after you have desired counters.

Will it see play? Yes, but all in all this "ratchet" design is weaker than it should be. It's what makes things like Grindclock from usable to sucky.

    For that I'm disapointed.

Erm. How is this worse in this situation? With Ratchet Bomb you can tap it to add your first counter immediately, or at the end of opponents next end step, whatever. You will be at 1 counter and be untapped on your next untap phase. With powder keg you are waiting until your next upkeep to get your first counter, and are at the same place by that point. If you always add your counter at your opponents end step you are getting your counter at basically the same time and both versions are available at the beginning of your turn. I guess you were missing that you can add a counter on the first turn it comes out.

    What would happen if you:
Reverberate a Reverberate to Reverberate the Reverberate to... With Kiln Fiend in play?

The original reverberate and the 2nd reverberate are the only two from your example that were actually cast (as Kiln Fiend's trigger requires). Any copied spells that those two reverberates generate would not be cast and thus not trigger Kiln Fiend.

Well it was maybe 2 weeks ago, but I will play another one and report back (unless someone knows fore sure they are still M10's...? Is there a way to find out?). If they are still M10 then I guess I will just wait a while before I play again. Thanks Smile

If you click the name of the event it will open a web page with the format payout and type of pack it pays.

  • posted a message on Can someone explain MTGO redemption?
    Quote from bigwithdraw
So i've never used MTGO - i've always preferred playing paper magic with friends and the like, going to tournaments, ect. But lately seeing the ease of being able to jump into drafts online has got me wanting to get it. The problem is, I've heard various things on how redemption works, as at the end of the day i'd much rather have the actual cards then there online equivalents. Is it true you can only paper out, so to speak when you have 1x or 4x of every card in the set? If thats the case, is it a money sink that you really cant break even on or does it work some other way?

Yes. you have to have 1x of every card in the set. Those cards must all be non-foil or all be foil. There can not be a mix of both. A non-foil set redeems you a non-foil cardboard set and foil a foil set.

As with paper magic, this means that mythics are the current choke point for collecting redemption sets online. As for being able to draft a lot online and "break even" it is basically impossible. The best payouts for normal 8 player drafts that fire as filled are 8 packs for first place and 4 packs for 2nd place. If you could ALWAYS go 3-0 or 2-0 and lose in the final round then you could break even and/or make money but it is not reliable is a limited format. It is much more feasible to "go infinite" (make all of your money back plus some) by playing tier 1 decks in standard tournaments (and some people then use their pack winnings to play drafts) but it requires a very large investment to get started as you need a tier 1 deck.

    Hope it helps!
