What's funny about Thrull surgeon is I was going through my old stuff the other day and pulling out cards that still might have some value. I took about every card that might playable in standard if reprinted and set them aside, but I distinctly remember passing up thrull surgeon.

Oh, and I passed up Steel Golem. I should expect to see Fallen Askari or Song of Blood in a new set at this rate...

Reiver Demon seems very unlikely due to Lord of the Pit already fulfilling the quota of the huge black flier. I was going to go with Shade until the number crunchers determined it was almost certainly not happening. It's a toss-up between Pithing Needle and Terravore to me.

Maybe someone with too much time on their hands, or more likely with some web scripting, can just request each possible combination of numbers and letters of that length...

Vindicative Mobs is pretty bad unless it's actually what Yawgatog suggested. 5/5 for 6 is no bargain in black that you'd be willing to sacrifice a creature and only get a minimal evasion ability out of it.

Warp World could potentially be absolutely ludicrous, and very much like Tooth and Nail, if not a bit less accurate. You already have Sakura Tribe-Elder and Wood Elves as permanents that help ramp mana, and Kodama's Reach and Seething Song would be helpful to cast it as well. Pack the rest of your deck full of castable fatties and Divining Top, and it might be decent.

  • posted a message on [RAV] "Bleed" spells confirmed, 3 partial cards
Peel from Reality is fairly good. While it doesn't have the entire function of Withdraw, it does have its most common use of saving one of your guys (or getting to reuse a cip trigger, etc) and removing the most annoying of theirs. Not much use outside of Limited though.

  • posted a message on [9th] "Power 9" poster [Fake]
Good show. I didn't read the thread until I knew it was fake, but in general whenever there's a source of information and people are finding much of anything wrong with the shoppery, there's a problem. Real info (these days) tends to be very crisp, professional, and obvious that it isn't faked. Weird stories like this one might have been hiding a theft issue, but that doesn't explain the oblique crease along with the basically horizontal crease, the terrible photography skills, and a few other things.

As to whether it's a "good" thing, that's irrelevant. Banning someone that's an anarchist for a whole 3 posts seems a bit of a stretch. Putting him on the list is enough.

And most of those cards have no shot at being in 9th.

  • posted a message on [BOK] Minamo's Meddling (UPDATED IN POST #90)
This card is being severely underrated in its potential applications. It's clearly not a card that's good against everything, but it's ridiculous in Limited against decks U/W or U/R Splice. Not only do they not get to search for another Arcane Spell, kill a creature, prevent all damage, etc, they lose all those splice cards. The same thing might be true in constructed, depending on how the format shapes up.

I will be judging at the Birch Run, MI prerelease both days. We'll probably be given badges, and I generally write my screen name(s) on it.

    See you all there!

Is it just me, or is the first character in the third line of the black Genju's text a quotation mark?

That's because it's the start of the ability "B: ~ gets +1/+1 until end of turn", I believe.

Apprentice 2 has been "about to come out" for 6 years or so, since before I was a staff member of E-League. Don't hold your breath.

  • posted a message on Custom titles
It took me god knows how long to get my 500 posts for a custom title at MiseTings, and I never did get to 400 (I think) at MTGnews, despite reading a good amount. I don't post much, and with probably half my posts I end up deciding not to post them; I prefer to actually say something with my posts and sometimes it ends up that I have nothing to say.

Custom user titles are a weird thing. I didn't really care much at MT since the default user titles were purposely bland. Here, they attempt to be somewhat descriptive, and people dislike them for that reason when they're used to their custom titles.

I really don't care what the requirement is since I doubt I'll reach it without considerable effort, but I think part of the solution is fixing the ugliness that is the default user titles.

  • posted a message on O-Gaming (League for Magic Workstation)
I heartily have not supported o-gaming in the past, although after looking at their current staff, I'm a bit ambivalent to them. Aaron Cutler and Dave Taylor are good people, but some of their listed staff I'm not too fond of. Regardless, there is no reason for this to be on the front page. It would be fine to announce something that was happening at the league and the general existance of it, but this post is crossing the line in my mind.

    Homing Flock 1U
    Instant - Arcane
Return Homing Flock to Owners' hand.

Very, very abusable; this should cost at least one more mana, and we've only seen one set of Splicers/etc. Wording is fine, btw.

    Obsessed With Power 2RB
    Enchant Creature
Obsessed With Power can only enchant a creature you control.
Enchanted creature can't attack or block.
Whenever you play an activated ability of enchanted creature, put two copies of that activated ability on the stack. (You may choose new targets for the copies)

The reminder text needs to be rules text. See Mirari

    Diffracting Lens 3
    Legendary Artifact
Whenever an activated or triggered ability would be put on the stack, that abilitys controller puts two copies of that ability on the stack instead. They may choose new targets for the copies.

/* Doesn't trigger off itself, as it is a replacement ability */

Replacement abilities do not start with 'Whenever'; anything starting with "Whenever" is by definition a trigger. They can start with 'If'. "That player may choose...."; "they" is rarely ever used, and is always plural. Note the use of "he or she" on many cards. "Abilitys" should be "Ability's".

    Final Charge 3RRR
    Sorcery
Lands you control and are 2/2 creatures that are still land.
Non-land, non-creature permanents you control are X/X creatures, where X is equal to their converted mana cost. They are still artifacts or enchantments.
Creatures you control have haste and lose all other abilities.
At end of turn, you lose the game.

    "..that are still lands."

So local enchantments become creatures, fall off since creatures can't enchant things, and die?

    Banish UB
    Enchant Creature
You may only play Banish on a creature you control.
When Banish comes into play, target opponent gains control of enchanted creature.
At the beginning of your upkeep, lose life equal to twice enchanted creature's power.

I don't see the point of this. You give them the creature, and you lose the life. Is the creature supposed to gain the second ability? As to the templating, I don't think there's a card printed that is playable only on a certain type of permanent and that turns it into something that it can no longer target, thus I don't have anything to go on. The first line is obviously bad though; you don't play enchantments "on" creatures. I'd say "Banish can only target creatures you control", and since it only targets when it's cast, it's clear what that means.

    Fool's Gambit 3R
    Sorcery
You may only play Fool's Gambit if you control more land than an opponent.
    Destroy all land.

    "You may" is uneccessary.

"...lands." See Myojin of Infinite Rage.

    Bloody Revolution 1RR
    Sorcery
You may only play Bloody Revolution if you control more creatures than an opponent.
    Destroy all creatures.

    See above.

Unfortunately I think that it changing location would cause the rest of the spell to not resolve.

Untrue. Spells exist independantly of the cards that created them. For instance, you can wish for a Shahrazad in a subgame it created. At that point in time, the Shahrazad is still on the stack, and when you return to the main game, it will finish resolving just fine.

The best way to make it return to your hand at the end of its resolution is: "If ~ would go to the graveyard from the stack, it returns to your hand instead." Well, "returns" isn't the best word, but it's what WotC is using.

No reason to restrict it to outside of combat. See (the errata to) Berserk.

Land 2:There's no cost to playing land, so there can't be an "additional" cost. Plus, it means that you can get around the drawback by putting it into play by some other means. Look at Lotus Vale to see how the card should be worded.

Land 4: Very similar to Rainbow Vale, and quite likely worse, since that only changed sides when it was used.
