Arborea posted a message on Magic Story: Alara to AmonkhetI know the story is still technically ongoing, but it makes less than no sense to me that Bolas would just tear down Amonkhet once he has a working Eternal factory, not to mention the years he spent setting himself up as the God-Pharaoh. I don't believe there is such a thing as "enough" when it comes to mindless killing machines - and more importantly, I don't believe that Bolas does. I also spotted another curious thing when I was looking at my Empyrial Archangel playmat. They decided for Theros that Elspeth's sword came from there and was made by Purphoros, yet it has the same design as the standard swords on Bant. Many of the angels are shown with similar swords, as is Rafiq of the Many. Now, I don't believe there's any storyline significance to this - I think they just wanted to use Elspeth in Theros and decided to try and make a connection between her and the plane, and they were typically careless and forgot what they had established only four years before. -

As you've noted, there are a few mono-colored cards with guild watermarks. Leave No Trace and Wojek Embermage spring to mind, although both are the kind of card that's either very good or rather sub-par. -

You took the words right out of my mouth. I will be keeping an eye on people's reactions once rotations start, and most of Standard's content is Ravnica, to see if people start going "Ugh this is so stale!!?"
Yeah, I agree - Magic has a truly awful community, but some of the things that make it awful are not unique to it, if you all know what I mean. Some are created and amplified by the internet, and some are because the worst kind of people seem to be attracted to it for whatever reason.
The thing that I find curious about Magic is why more people don't go "Y'know, screw this godawful tournament scene, I'll just enjoy it on my own terms at home or with people I actually enjoy being around." Unless the reason the FNM and up scene never becomes less godawful is because people do precisely that.
For God's sake. Maybe they should also change the name of the game to "Magic: the Edgelording".
Do you know how many LGS I've been to where there were not enough tables for a single draft pod, the floor space was way too small, and there was no access to bathrooms? Do you know how many people across the world have been to the same number of LGS that could be described in this way?
Yet those very same LGS are supposedly the center of our game's "culture", and this GameStop discussion is some kind of suspicious thing.
It's a good card overall, and my God does Jhoira look beautiful in this set. She's been taking care of herself!
I don't like what he forebodes for the story, though. Did anyone read the original Weatherlight Saga and say, "Y'know, this would be a lot better with a precocious Harry Potter-style kid as one of the main characters"?
The problem is not that "some of us think this product under-delivers". The problem is that a lot of Magic players on the internet are not capable of being satisfied by anything, and further that they attack people who can be satisfied by something.
And that will be the next complaint - they come out too late in the season. Why can't we have these on day one? Because you can tell yourself all you like that this is about "precon decks that actually function", or whatever. It's not. It's about people thinking, to quote someone from an entirely different website, that they would do as well as Paulo Vitor if they owned four of every card.
