  • posted a message on [TS] Sengir Nosferatu + Akroma CONFIRMED by Adult Swim (scan post 213)
So yeah. If the ability really is 1B: Sacrifice ~, then put a black 1/1 bat creature token into play with flying and "1B: Sacrifice ~, return Sengir Nosferatu to play.", then wouldn't you be able to activate the ability as many times as you had 1B, get a bunch of bats, and be able to sacrifice any of them to return it?

I dunno if that's the intent. If not, the ability should be '1B, Sacrifice ~: put a black 1/1 bat creature token into play with flying and "1B, Sacrifice this: return ~ to play."

Just templating, is all. Depends on where the colon is.

This Mirror Universe pseudo-reprint is neat and all, and with Wall of Shards it's pretty funny, but I don't see it as being all that useful, since almost any removal spell in Standard kills it before you get to use it, and Stronghold Overseer is /so/ much better.

I've seen everyone commenting that Magus of the Scroll is Cursed Scroll -- what about Scroll Rack, another powerful artifact from the past?

  • posted a message on [TS] New format? Open Dueling? Is this what they were talking about?
My card shop just posted this:

Newsflash: In addition to our normal Sealed Deck and Team Flights, we'll be introducing a new format created especially for casual and first-time players. For more information, call (505) 346-2232 and ask about Open Dueling at the Time Spiral PreRelease

    on their website.

Could this be a new format where the reprints will also be used, or?

Guys, note the four arms, the swords much in style with the Orochi, the large back-end as if it's pregnant, the tiny legs. Is it possible that this might very well be a Demon Spirit Snake of some sort? You never know. Me, I'm rooting for multicolored cards. Smile

  • posted a message on Krark's thumb strangeness with new BOK card!
So, recently posted in the BoK FAQ thread at Wizards.com:

    Mirror Gallery (5)
    The 'legend rule' doesn't apply.

Put this with 2x Krark's thumb.

Krark's Thumb: Whenever you would flip a coin, instead flip two coins and ignore one of them.

Replacement effects with both ends in an infinitely recurring loop, I believe, that would draw the game.

Not that this is useful, but doesn't Wizards generally attempt to avoid this sort of thing?

It ensures that no deck ever plays anything like wrath, o-stone, the 4-mana blue instant artifact bounce, before Ravager wins.

    That's all.

Guys? This seems to be another tool for ravager, truth be told. 3-4 maindeck could definitely find their way in -- and who has problems with sacking a Worker with an Ornithopter in play?

My bad, I've been playing MTGO so much I often forget the end of combat step -- nothing ever happens then, generally.

    GENERALLY! :tongue2:

It seems to me that with Ninjutsu being all over the place at the prerelease, you're going to have to be more cautious than normal in order to have a chance at winning a flight.

As for me, I don't plan on not blocking anything little in fear of a combat trick, as CHK is fairly light on combat tricks (outside of Green) and whatnot.

However, I am going to try to play B/U, W/U, G/U, or G/B in order to take advantage of the fffear that most people are going to have of Ninjutsu, so that when it's just a plain old combat trick instead of Ninja Scroll time they'll be disappointed and also card disadvantaged.

Also, keep in mind that with Ninjutsu, an attacker is considered attacking and unblocked until combat damage resolves and after the declare attackers step (EG, you can Ninjutsu something into play even in the fast effects phase during the declare attackers step).

Also, if you want your Ninja to deal some damage, make sure that you have him flying into play sometime before combat damage goes on the stack, preferably during the Declare Blockers step. Otherwise, the creature he's replacing will pink the enemy for likely much less effect than otherwise and then he'll come roaring into play (oops!) without being able to do damage. Know your steps, and your opponents won't be able to take advantage of you.

Wizards usually has an excellent article on up-and-coming rules for new mechanics on Friday, so I'd also recommend reading that.

One last general tip: both players must pass priority on an *empty* stack in order for the game to proceed to the next step/phase. Don't let someone bully you into missing something. What this means is: You declare attackers. In the fast effects step before blockers are declared, you don't have anything. Your opponent plays Serpent Skin on his Big Ol' Fattie that's going to take your creature down. You can let that resolve, saying that you have no response to that. You now have priority once more, and the stack is empty. If you pass your action here instead of casting the Black Shoal in your hand to rid yourself of said fattie, you won't have another chance to cast said -x/-x spell until after blockers have been declared -- and after your chance to actually get any damage through with that creature this turn is gone.

Post your strategies here! Sorry this turned into Limited advice!

I really like Torrent. It screams to me, 'Splice me onto Glacial ray for a total cost of 2 sacked mountains for one dead creature and 2 to the dome or one dead dragon!'

Whisper is pretty ridiculous, and now actually may give someone reason to use Iname, Death Aspect's ability in practice. Or you could always dampen yourself and then dampen them, killing one of their creatures and (with reach through mist) drawing a card.
