Opened a beta Ancestral today. We've drafted probably 6 boxes, first treasure, was a pretty awesome time when I opened it.

I made up this same mechanic and used it in a fantasy card on brainburst. I called it Cascade.

Telling Time is obviously a knockoff of Impulse. Surprised no one has said that before now. But it does seem fairly strong. I still would like to see a reprint of brainstorm, but we'll take what we can get. The creature looks potent but probably isn't, but the Flam Fusillade looks like a combo card for sure.

And do not forget that it combos nicely with vigilance.

I really must come off sounding like a real nit, but... what vigilance cards are really playable? White Weenie is not that dominant a deck in any format. It only came out as popular in standard and block because it has really overpowered equipment and the answers to it were mostly artifacts so it had damping matrix. If any creature decks get popular, a lot of Wraths are going to get thrown around.

I just don't see this seeing much play at all. Swords' main attraction is that it can kill anything, anytime for low cost and little to no drawback. You would target your OWN guys sometimes. Not to mention it could take out utility creatures like Goblin Welder and Merfolk Looter. I don't see this being played.

I think this card is very overrated. If you have creatures you should be attacking so you won't be able to tap them. If you don't have creatures, it's 3 mana spot removal for an attacking guy. Wing Shards was a LOT better than this, in my opinion.

Not to be a hobag about it, but I really think this could've costed WW.

I guess they are going to errata this one. Even if the ability only triggers once per effect, it is still absolutely awesome! Red is going to have to do some serious commitment to kill this creature. And then you can use instant effects also, like a dark banishing to get a 2-1 card advantage! I guess I better get me 4 of these ASAP!

I don't think it's smart to get 4 of the chase card that possibly may suck horribly right when the set first comes out.

    Unless it's from R_E's site. =)

This seems like a solid card. The thing is, they gave blue a powerful, uncounterable tutor for use in a ton of formats which can also be used to blow up game ending sorceries and disrupt disruption... but they think Counterspell is too strong for standard? Seems a little strange and hypocritical. Now it's basically giving them a cop out to not reprinting the original by saying "But with both in the format, it would be unfair!"

    Bitter? Nah.

I don't see how people are totally against the Runes, as many of the mechanics do make sense. People keep saying how black doesn't get card draw without using up resources, but what does that make cycling then? There have been cycling cards for B before. The concept for the runes seems pretty cool, and something I think MaRo definitely came up with.

I dunno if it's real, devil's advocate is the place to be.

What I said was pretty harsh, but that's what I feel about it. I'm a pretty spiky guy, so in the tournament scene that's what I think goes on. I understand a lot of people are more casual players, and some people feel different about it even if they are tournament players, but in the last 3 years that's just what I've seen. Blue decks mean interaction, and interaction means more fun.

You say I judge the set based on one common... I'm not judging the set, I'm judging what R&D has been doing recently. This is just another signal saying that blue control is something they do not want to make a good deck, despite the fact they still screwed up and printed Vedalken Shackles, letting blue players hold on a little bit to their dream.

Blue the color will get good cards, blue the deck is dying.

It is definately going into my Blue White Extended Singleton deck on MTGO

You heard it today, folks, this card will be part of the PT Kuala Lampur 2008 extended winning deck, narrowly beating out turn3scaledwurmgo.dec.

    (Not a flame to Rider)

R&D's recent attention towards blue has been sickening. It's been almost proven that in the past months, formats where blue is strong are fun whereas formats where blue is simply a supporting color or not at all are almost entirely luck based. Make blue stronger for a stronger game.

    I agree.

Oh, sorry, more to say. I also think that I've been guilty of just chiming in my two cents when the moment seemed right without knowing exactly what the rest of the thread said, but I think all that results from a 'hot tip' coming about and the general populace of the rumor mill doesn't want to read all of the 'OMG OMG OMG' that they assume is in the thread. I stumbled upon the wine advertisement when it had several pages of replies in it, and I didn't want to spend 20 minutes reading all of it in order to put out my own opinion that would likely be taken already anyway. I could already do that.

Besides, it's an internet forum. Not all posts are going to be amazing useful because a lot of the people who post on them either don't know what they're talking about or aren't qualified enough to have an informative post. I don't mean to sound condescending, but only a few people on the rumor mill really know what they're talking about (and I am not one of them).

I want these to be real but I can't see it being true.

    1) The cards do look like they've been glued onto the black bordered cards.

    2) The cards are NOT FOILED and yet they have a black border, which has never been done before. I don't know why people think they are foiled cards other than the fact they call them a 'premium' blend, which is a commonly used phrase and in this situation just says that their power level is increased from the last few core sets.

I don't particularly want these to be real simply because I want Brainstorm to be back, but most of them seem fairly plausible (except for Quicksand. That just seems weird.)

As for the CoPs, I agree that it's time that they get cut down to Red and Black. It may not seem very vintage to the crowd, but it doesn't make any sense for white to be able to hose itself the way it does.
