QFT. She has rather nice curves and child bearing hips!

Indeed, which makes it all the more hilarious that her reproductive organs have likely been removed to make room for more Phyrexian machinery. After all, why breed naturally and take the chances of evolution giving you a genetic dead end when you can choose, grow, and compleat your offspring to make them even more effective little killing machines to spread the glory of Phyrexia instead?:D:p

    Quote from Lightning Duke
Elesh Norn: And now a public announcement from the Church of New Phyrexia. Ignorant peons, are you sick of having cancer gnaw away at you when it's just too late? All residents of Mirrodin, Mirran or Phyrexian, are encouraged to come down to the Annex and receive a free mammogram in celebration of this cycle's drive to eliminate cancer. And if something is found, I will personally refer you to the cosmetic surgeon who worked on me after my own mastectomy.

Remember, there's only one kind of cancer good enough for you, and that's the engineered Phyrexian kind. So don't wait until it's too late for even us to do anything, and remember that even zombie robots mourn when imperfect biological tumours take away their loved thralls.

Hmm, we need to make a series of Public Service Announcements for ALL of the Praetors!:D

To those saying Elesh must be Male because Elesh lacks breasts... first off, A Cups. Second off, her flesh has been flayed, what makes you think that some extra unnecessary parts, such as her breasts, weren't flayed off as well?

Because the artists WOTC hires usually draw fan-service you say? Rolleyes

Not that strong an argument. Especially with the strong Body Horror vibe Phyrexia has going.

Ahh, here's the quote that came with the pic.

    Quote from Elesh Norn »
"Ah the glorious symphony of bitter hymns and forced hallelujahs! See the ignorant fall to their knees when I remove their heathen feet! All will be blessed with the pains of redemption! Look inside yourself to see the truth, or see my suture priests so they can open your chest to find it for you!" – delirious sermon of Elesh Norn

Never gonna happen. PWs are bound to be mythic. The mythic rarity was invented for PWs as far as I know.

The "Mythic Rarity" was pushed on us by Hasbro to help drive up card prices and make the secondary market happy (which helps to sell more individual card packs so that people can get those "Mythic Rares"). Anyone who says otherwise is lying their asses off, and/or never worked with a large corporation that is willing to drive up short term profits at the cost of long term gains.

This sort of behavior is the reason why so many companies are more than willing to burn a product to the ground in order to generate short term profits. It's VERY easily seen in the Video Gaming industry (the worst offender by far has been EA, though it's happening in almost all of the other companies too).

Furthermore, I'd be interested in how they would be justified creatively in a non-Phyrexian context. Rosewater seemed pretty confident about that being the case the next time the mechanic shows up.

Mention was made of "Spirit Tokens" in place of Germ Tokens. A Suit of Armor being Haunted as an example would fit that theme quite well.

Actually, Gideon, Jace, and Sarkhan's ascension stories prove that it's subjectively easier to ascend these days. It doesn't require an extreme trauma anymore. It can also be activated by tapping deeper into their own inherent power.

...huh, and here I was thinking that the current crop of Planeswalkers were actual badasses who overcame great odds and tribulations and came out on top dispite the odds. A pity.:( For a few moments, the current Crop of Planeswalkers actually sounded interesting.

    A planeswalker is 1 in a 1,000,000,000,000.

Just a nitpick, but it's actually around 1 in a 1,000,000 that have the Spark needed to become a Planeswalker. This is justified by the settings not having as many people as you would expect in a more modern setting, and the majority of even those with a Spark never activating it. So in a Earth like setting (with almost 7 billion people), there should be on average around 7,000 potential planeswalkers.

However, with the need for great danger and stress to activate those sparks, and the lack of survivability that the old Planeswalkers had, it now means that with the nerfing done to the current crop of Planeswalkers results in the vast majority not surviving the various conditions that should activate their sparks. Meaning there should be even fewer Planeswalkers than before due to their added squishiness.

No doubt. Today's card of the day was giving that message clearly by indicating word "slave". I strongly believe that Brady wants people to forget about Test of Metal.

Could you provide a link? I have no clue where to look for what you're talking about here.

In keeping with the new rule that great artwork be paired with stupid cards and vice versa, he'll be a 2/2 dude that costs 4.

    @godslefthand

It really depends on the Challenge Rating the portagonists will have after you convert them to D20 rules. The big ones like Phyrexia, the Eldrazi or Nicol Bolas would have a very high CR and I think you want to square them off against characters of level 15+. Others like Legendary Creatures will range from low CR to high, so there should be a protagonist for every occasion and party level. But after all you can get the CR you need. We only know the protagonists from story and artwork and the Rules of the Card Game and you are free to tweak the numbers.

Usually I try to create my own NPC enemies, using monsters from the manual or converting those unique to Magic for one-time encounters and making NPCs, and planeswalkers or NPCs with abilities similar to the abilities of the characters for recurring encounters and archenemies. Known legendary protagonists usually only pop up as the force in the shadows or when the players hear their names and see the consequences of their deeds.

While true, that wasn't exactly what I was asking. Of course, looking back on it, I asked very poorly. How do the characters in these settings usually stack in comparison to their D&D counterparts? For example, the characters from Toril's plane are on average usually less than level eight and more than level three (It's fun when you're at very low levels to get the level ten plus antagonist characters to kill themselves off trying to use trap items such as the "Head of Vecna" you carry with you though.:D:p You would not believe how many people will kill their own characters in the mistaken belief that they can actually use things like that.:D Yes, I did take inspiration from that thread to see if it would work, and I was shocked that it did.:D:D:D).

Also, have you found that are there were any certain homebrew modifications that needed to be made for specific planes in order for them to remain true to their settings flavor and feel? I ask as I've had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to stat most MTG characters and get them to remain more or less the same with their fluff.

So, here's my question. At what point are most of the protagonists going to be placed at? Obviously most answers would revolve around "Where the party's level is at", but still, how comparable are the D&D classes and characters to those that would be faced off against in the MTG settings here?

Also, let's use 3.5 here for the comparisons. Less hate compared to 4th edition.

Heh. Even if so, the Oil has nanobots, and most of phyrexian products are toxic in their own right (who cares about some antibiotics). How that even compares?
Such hypothetical goo could be even first to dominate environment, but the oil would eat it out from inside, or compleat it on subcellar level.

There is no comparison here. One is based on technobabble. The other is based on real science. One of these two things can be made, and it is not the Oil. Also, tone down on the use of the technobabble. Over using it makes the post appear cheesy and ridiculous, rather than deep and knowledgable, even if the technobabble is (unfortunately) featured in a story setting.

Magic is weird, man. So is fantasy-mechanical-pseudo-biology.

Science is even weirder. A person going by the screenname RandomJ created, well, how about I just copy/paste what he posted.

    Quote from RandomJ »
    Neococcus ecoclasticus, aka Little Boy:
    Characteristics:

    1. Tough plastic cell wall
    2. Thickened and hardened spores formed in hostile environments (high rad, high temp, etc), allowing it to survive multiple kGy and boiling. Autoclaves at 134C for 18min or 130C for 23min kill it, guaranteed. More moderate autoclaves will kill some pathogens, but are not guaranteed to get all of them.
    3. Reactivation is relatively slow in a non-hostile but inert environment, but on the order of 1.5-2 days inside biologicals.
    4. Redundant DNA and repair mechanisms, for radiation and UV hardening
    5. Excretes poisonous chemicals
    6. Tends to clump together
    7. Retains a small sample of spored cells, even in friendly environments, for resiliency
    8. Short asymptomatic course: <1 week
    9. Will attack other polymers
    10. As part of the rad hardening, the incident radiation is absorbed and used to help power the repair mechanisms
    11. Redundant metabolic pathways means that no single antibiotic will harm it. A complex antibiotic scheme of no less than two substances is needed to even attempt at making a dent in a colony's growth
    11. Xenobiotic efflux and other antibiotic resistance built in from the start means that LB is ready to counteract any attempts at dousing it in antibiotics and will actively cleanse its cell from such contaminants. Means that for antibotic schemes to start working, you need a way of overcoming the built-in efflux systems and other resistance factors.
    12. Metavariator systems means that LB becomes highly mutable (especially the backup metabolic pathways and resistance factors) when faced with stress. Stress includes "comrades in a biofilm suddenly dying en masse".

    Spore sizes:
~6 µm, unadjuvanted. Larger (~30-50 µm) with biodegradable adjuvant layer (provides additional environment protection and optimizes dispersion characteristics, increases production times). Adjuvant compound can be designed so that causes the particles to behave in a certain manner (controls clumping, dispersal, etc)

For those who don't know why this is beyond terrifying, this translates into a bioweapon that turns a planet's biosphere into a mass of toxic plastic within five years of even small amounts reaching water. The part that makes this even more horrifying is that he linked to EVERY thing in this list to show it was indeed able to be done, and is being done right now by lifeforms currently on Earth.

Phyrexia doesn't have SQUAT in comparison to a single bored Russian Soldier with Microbial Biology Training.
