I went back and looked at the stained glass art and it's not one of the 36 that have cards in this set. A reminder that Dack does die, and doesn't have a card, so it could be nearly anyone for modern day Planeswalkers. I'll go and take a look at see what kind of clues I can find.
Closest candidate looks like it's Ral Zarek, actually. The red draping scarf gives it away.
Seb McKinnon hits it out of the park *again* with Deliver Unto Evil, which I also think has a sweet effect for EDH and is one of the more "awesome" card names in game. Elderspell is hilarious and is certainly getting slotted right alongside Nicol Bolas into my 5C Planeswalker EDH, but Elderspell also has implications for Standard for sure. 2 mana targeted removal is nothing to scoff at.
I humbly agree. there is no better rarity to put four headlining Eternal "Generals" other than at Mythic. I cannot remember a time in Magic where a God or something with godlike powers was not at Mythic rarity (since the inception of Mythic rarity as a thing). If there are examples otherwise, please do let me know. However, I will say that I am extremely excited to see what Wizards will do with the Zombie Gods, and I am glad such a tight lid has been kept on the story of War up until spoiler season.
It will be non-foil in the set with possibly different artwork. The artwork show is the foil-only FNM promo.
As for the previews, those are some nasty commons and uncommons for limited. Good to see Aristocrats getting another toy and I am very excited about Dovin's Veto for control.
Two *excellent* cards for limited for both Gruul and Simic. While color blending in Guilds was difficult, it seems there is a lot more overlap in this set so far, but time will tell.
Wow, two really great modes. I especially like the Despose replaces itself for limited. Could potentially see play in the more aggressive Dovin Baan decks in Standard?
A decent reprint between this and Eldrazi Conscription, but I still think I'm sticking to singles. However, this did actually need another printing to keep up with demand, so I'm glad it's here.
I mean, I understand reprinting casual cards or cards for EDH in a Master's set. However, even at $6 currently, this doesn't feel like a card that would have high enough demand to need to be reprinted at rare here. That's just my two cents considering the trend of previews today and the "purpose" of UMA stated by Wizards.
Nothing says team like the spell that can be cast multiples times in one turn if there is enough mana open and both teams playing red, heh. Also, a fantastic reprint for bringing the price of this card down in both Legacy and Pauper.
So far it seems like a mixed bag. Some of the rares are truly excellent (crptyic command, vial, flusterstorm, grove, canopy, magus of the moon, cobra), others are really really bad (spiritmonger, lord of the pit, scourge of valkas, savageborn hydra, curse of predation). Feelks like you will either love your pack or hate it. The only nice uncommon I see is bauble so far. They downgraded bladewing to uncommon, heh.
I am currently writing a live-updated list of highlight reprints. It's not sorted or anything yet; I'll do that later. I'll be happy to post a reply in here with it once I have finished for today.
It sounds like a perfect time to finish the Eterna block! (I also can't help but come back at a time where a set I came up with the idea for is getting a 2nd set )
The Five Great Evils of Eterna, a pentad of despicable villains, throttle the world with a combination of mindless destructiveness and totalitarian repression. Against them stands one mystery figure - the Lone Hero - and her growing following, who ignore the signs that villainy itself is part of what keeps Eterna together, and tilting the balance too far in the favor of good can itself have evil results...
Servitude (As this permanent enters the battlefield you may have another creature you control become Overlord. Only one creature you control can be Overlord.)
Ruinous - When ~ is put into a graveyard from anywhere, (do something).
Prophet of Elesh Norn (White)
Artifact Token Creature - Priest (S) W, T: Creatures your opponents control get -1/-1 until end of turn. Activate this ability only once per turn.
