Red is a MUST in modern control because Bolt breaks the color pie, what else are you playing to kill all the deadly one and two drops on the draw? We dont have swords to plowshares like Legacy, Pyroclasm is pretty insane as well. And you dont want dead removal vs combo do you?, and oh look they like to do a lot of damage to themselves with lands and probes too, bolt snapcaster bolt threatens nearly half a players life total!

Bolt is two or three tiers of power level above everything else at one mana!

Until it is banned or some extremely powerful new removal is printed (B, instant, target creatures gets -4/-4), or heavy creature decks disappear, Izzet will be THE control color pair indefinitely.

Holy crap. Swan Song is THE ultimate combo killer. Look at what it counters:

Anything in Storm (Past in Flames, Pyromancer Ascension)

I feel it's not a stretch to call it the Force of Will of Modern.

Thoughtsieze is the force of will of modern.
This is a good sb card for combo yes indeed and certainly the most interesting cheap utility spell spoiled so far.

Yea I am interested to try Augury and Hero's downfall, instant speed dreadbore was almost straight up made for this deck.

I guess swan song can replace dispell in some sideboards, there just are not many enchantments or sorceries played in modern and a crap ton of instants. I wish it was just U1 counter any spell give a bird. Annul is also in this set and I like that card a fair bit as well, it is good vs affinity tron and twin.

I think all the steam augury debate is quite moot. Cryptic is getting bumped any time soon in UWR It will see about as much or less play than gifts, ie not much. I think its more a card for standard.

Yea.... Idk. I don't think I like it, 8 is a LOT, and it won't flat out win you the game particularly easy. The dies trigger and exile upgrade are not such a huge boon over angel of despair, a card I have been finding increasingly clunky even in Commander. Pure reanimator has splashier targets. I liked archon of justice because it is castable then you just loop it with a sac outlet and mimic vat or whatever.

Yes augury and gifts are different, gifts is much better. How does no one see that OPPONENT chooses the pile and you most likely end up with 2 cards... Just like gifts. But with gifts you get to Cherry pick the cards. Has no one heard of snapcaster Mage or flashback spells? I think people are just straight up thinking this is FoF, sorry it is not.

Steam Augury is cool but isn't it more akin to Gifts ungiven (they chose the cards and good with graveyard shenanigans)... but not as good...

I still say gifts ungiven is a better card straight up, and is more comparable to this than fact. Sniff snif no one will ever even try my sweet gifts for value pile of Mystic retrieval, think twice, snapcaster and good spell... GAS! (I guess its more for grixis)

I have a set of thopter swords just waiting... A LOT of realy strong hate cards have been printed since this was a strategy in extended. Some people did testing on it a while back and it wasnt over powering, honestly it's pretty similar to twin or pod.

I wish they also gained you one life. Scry1 is not worth a tap apparently 2 was not busted but just took to much play time, face palm still less than shuffling! 1 is only a decision to not want a card, something a well tuned deck doesn't often need. Pretty sure in control I don't even want these when I have more powerfull man lands.

Scry 1 only does anything at all if you DONT want to draw the card, so either a high drop early or extra land late. It is a subtle effect because if you build your deck right this should not be a major problem. I did like these at first but slowly deflating on them now, guess I have not been doing much scry1 ever. I feel like these wanted to scry 1.5 but thats not possible. I really like my idea of also adding the refuge 1 life on top of that.

It pisses me off that WotC likes to poop on solid mana, stupid burning earth already heavily incentives people to strip back to two colors and immediately changed the meta game. You already gain some consistency from just playing two colors, three is not a total free roll with shock + check, most of the three color decks are base green any how! Really they didn't want two sets of untaped lands in standard and purposely punish three color decks? They are Fine, wtf let people cast their spells especially when half of them in the pool are multi color!

    Quote from Aazadan
If you're on the play and keep a 2 lander consisting of a scry land and a basic, playing 24 lands your chance of hitting your third land drop is 66.3% without the scry 1. With the scry 1 your chance goes up to 80.8%. However, assuming you're running 4 scry lands and no guildgates you have a 3/22 chance of that third land entering tapped bringing you to a 69.79% chance of hitting your land drop and being able to use it compared to the 66.3% chance with a basic over scry 1.

End result: Using them is better than not using them, but not by much.

This is great thanx for that, I like them... but not by much eheh Scry one is a pretty marginal effect, but i guess 2 would have been obnoxiously strong. They should have been gain one life AND scry 1!

Burning earth did a pretty good job of punishing tri color decks already.

I guess I like these, you are kind of paying one mana to scry 1, not really worth it, would scry 2 have been too good? I am pretty sure the check lands are better with the Ravnica lands, control kinda likes these but one and two color agro decks will really punish these. More flavors of dual lands are certainly welcome in singleton formats.
Pretty crap these are rare when the Zen ones were uncommon and I dont see scry 1 being better than one life.
These are certainly worse then the dual man lands.

Planes walkers that don't do anything and five drops that die to bolt for no value have no chance of seeing play in this ultra efficient competitive constructed format!!!

Yea because Tefferi is already seeing so much play..... As a sometimes singleton.... In one deck. This is a cool card, but people seriously just because you like some card design does not mean it has a shot in hell in modern!
