Building on a budget is something very few cubers here have experience with because most of us just want to create the best environment possible.

The 10 fetches are 100% necessary for the best mana fixing available to a cube. If you're only going to play with some or none, I think the budget cubes would be the first place I'd look to see what to play instead of them.

My cube is about as budget as a powered 360 cube can be. The ten fetches are not necessary. They aren't. There is fixing for miles and miles and I still just run the four. Some time soon I expect more people to wake up from the dilusion that they have to run all ten fetches and realize that for certain color combinations other lands are much better. Until then I expect to get plenty of "run all ten fetches, hur durr!"

Back when I read about EDH for the first time, 2005, and I was trying to explain the format to my friends I had a really awful Rith zoo deck. Commander will always be that Rith deck to me, no matter how badly broken my Sharuum deck becomes, or how fast Edric tiny thugs kills a table full of friends, EDH will always just be Rith trying to convince my friends to build something.

How often to people approach you and just rage because of this commander ruling, or that commander ruling?

It really isn't necessary to run all 10 fetch lands. I find that the four blue fetch lands are enough. I know that a lot of people like to have all 10, so if that's your thing go for it, but I run 4 at 360 and have literally never, ever missed the other 6. The R/G and W/G man lands are fantastic, and I run R/W painland, and B/R scars dual. Dakmor Salvage does more for B/G than most any other land could dream of and for B/W I run the scry temple.

My cube would love something like this.

    Ancestral theory. [U]
    Instant
Draw a card then discard a card. Untap up to one target land.

Print to demand is bad thing. I mean, look at all the conspiracy cards. Who cracks them now? The prices of the new cards are still extremely high.

You're being sarcastic, right? Because print to demand does exactly the opposite of what your statement implies you think it does. Duel Decks aren't valuable because Elves v. Goblins is amazing to play, it isn't btw, it's expensive because there aren't enough of them to meet demand. Print to demand on this product ensures that players can access the product. So, yeah, I'm guessing your statement was sarcasm, and if it wasn't then I hope I've helped give you perspective.

A cube block made out of 3 different cubes. Similar to a block (e.g. Theros, Born & Journey), you draft three cubes (each with a certain theme) in order. One booster per cube.

Alternatively, players may chose which boosters to pick first of all (there could be a planeswalker cube booster, an aggro booster or whatsoever).

I love this idea. You and I actually had this same idea independently, and then I discovered that you posted this here and it made me wonder if I read it and then later had the idea as if it were my own. In any case, the first cube will be 540 and the two small set cubes will be 360. I'll get back to everyone in a year or so when I have it sorted out how to distribute cards and themes.

    Least Favorite:
    • EDH players tend to promote a fictitious game of Magic where anything thing that isn't fun or fair to a specific individual isn't acceptable and they seem to do this with more frequency than players of other formats do. It gets old fast.

    That's it really. I'm nothing but a simple man.[/quote]

to be fair, this complaint isnt exclusive to edh and can happen in any format you can imagine.

I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but me and my playgroup have decided that simply being a rare creature is qualification enough. Just house rule what works for you.

My recommendation is to have everyone agree to 30 life totals when starting for multiplayer which allows for aggro to be a bit more powerful. Then you go all out on the combo player and convince the others that the combo player can win in the first 3 or 4 turns. Politics is the best way to handle a meta with unbalanced decks. I really like the 30 life change, my friends and I have been doing it for a few months now and it's great.

This is how my playgroup likes to do this as well. I find it useful to play a deck that can be run either way. I have a Sharuum deck which can either be just fast creatures, or it can turn into a nightmare combo deck. The difference is how I play the deck. I have also found that playing pauper edh is a nice alternative to normal edh. variety is the key for us.

we do this crazy thing where if you dont have a good draw in your opening seven cards, you shuffle your deck and draw seven new cards. and then if those cards arent good enough, you do it again only drawing six cards. this formula continues until you keep a hand of cards, or you simply start the game with zero cards, or even better, concede.

the reason you dont just changing other rules as Tantarus so helpfully suggests, is because Commander is not a sanctioned format. I repeat, you are playing a format that has no "official" rules. You are encouraged to make a set of rules that you and your friends enjoy, and then you all follow those rules because you enjoy playing with one another. Playing to troll your friend is not going to suddenly make him see the light, it is going to result in an arms race and you are going to end up with an even more degenerate meta than you started with. It is first and foremost important to have fun playing cards. if you arent having fun then you may want to discuss with your playgroup about sitting down and establishing exactly what is and what is not acceptable. tl;dr you need to have a discussion with your friend about what you are frustrated with.

This list is fantastic. I enjoy the build. I've made it card for card and only found that the land base leaves anything to be desired. Which is not your fault, I've just been spoiled with rare lands for too long. This list was very helpful. I hope it isnt an infraction to just tell you that you did a good job and that i love the list.
