None that are Canadian-specific, no. Are you looking to be rid of the cards as fast as possible, or do you want to do a controlled descent to get more value out of them?

    The latter option Smile

I don't suppose you'd know of any specific large Facebook groups for Canadians, that you'd recommend?

Thanks for the suggestions, I didn't realize the trading post had moved (was still looking for it in the Market Street forum area). These Facebook groups you mention - are there specific large ones that act as hubs across larger regions, or do they tend to be more localized within a specific city (and frequented by said city's MTG patrons)?

    Hi all,

I've been out of the buying/selling game for a while - decided to dust off my remaining MTG stuff and sell it off. Back in my day (4-5 years ago), I sold a lot on MTGS as well as MOTL.

Now, coming back on, it seems that these former venues are either gone (as in the case of MTGS) or more or less extinct (MOTL). Does anyone have a recommendation for sites/forums that are still active for buying/selling?

It seems like the buying/selling game has changed fundamentally - I've had friends who tell me a lot of it is local now via FB groups, etc - is this the case?

Thanks in advance for the info folks,

    PoG

  • posted a message on Full-art, altered cards - average value?
    Hi all,

I am looking for a good sense of an "average" price on an altered, full-art MTG card. Let's assume the card was fairly well painted. I know that the individual values will vary depending on artist ability/individual preference, but I am looking for a general range for a reasonably well done card (for example, that the card would be within 80-120% of normal value, etc).

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

  • posted a message on MTGPrice and TCGPlayer pricing
    Hi all,

Former MTG buyer/seller here, coming out of semi-retirement to ask a couple questions: I've been out of the selling loop for the last few years. Back in my heyday, eBay/MOTL prices were largely the standard for buying and selling cards online. From some research and observation, I see that a lot of people are now referencing TCGPlayer and MOTL is now totally defunct. I've also seen MTGPrice referenced a few times.

What I'm wondering is - are the TCGPlayer/MTGPrice prices a reasonable barometer for what one could actually expect to sell his cards for? Or are they a bit inflated due to the influence of shops in their pricing? In other words, if card X is listed on TCGPlayer or MTGPrice for $10, could I expect to list said card and have it sell for $10 on MTGS or locally? Or is the "true" person-to-person price a bit lower than what these sites list?

On a related note - are the aforementioned sites the best reference to use these days, or is there a "better" site for accurate and competitive eBay-ish pricing?

    Cheers,

    PoG

  • posted a message on Which price guide(s) do you use?
    Hi all,

I used to trade and sell a lot online back in the day, but more or less retired about 5-6 years back. I still have a decently sized collection and am figuring out the best way to unload it. I used to use MOTL and apathy house for eBay-based pricing, but these guides don't seem as accurate as they were before.

I'd appreciate any recommendations for a reliable site for pricing out cards, and the reasons why you like the site.

    Much appreciated!

Bonus question: what % can I expect in cash if I were to sell my collection to a dealer? The collection is a mix of bulk and playables.

I know in the past, the conventional wisdom was to piecemeal out the good stuff and bulk off the rest. Does this still apply? How about midrange cards in the $3-5 range?

He was turning before he hit his head though, exibiting all the classic symptoms (profuse sweating, obvious spike in body temperature, etc). .

Sweating and high fever are classic symptoms of various bacterial/viral infections as well. They even said in the show that they suspected a pneumococcal infection.

But yeah, someone literally dropping dead from one of those infections is a bit harder to swallow. There realistically should should have been a phase where he was bedridden before he passed away.

She actually only really costs three mana to flash in from the command zone. It's afour mana initial investment, but then you can untap a land, Merfolk Reejerey style. Pretty solid, not broken commander. I like the idea.

    Thoughts on the last ep:

It was a good, solid ending, but a little too neat for my tastes. For a show that tries to throw you for a loop, the finale instead neatly wraps everything up. The bad guys are dead, and the sympathetic characters endure. Walt dies, as many had predicted. Highlights for me were him tying up his relationship loose ends (ie: finally admitting to Skyler that he everything that he did was really for myself).

While I wasn't expecting a verbatim re-telling of the book (too difficult of a narrative structure for the big screen), the resolution wrapped things up a little too happily and cleanly for me. Compared to the book, the movie stretches believability substantially for the sake of fitting things into a two hour movie.

Movie - Brad Pitt saves the world with a vaccine.

Books - Slow and grueling recovery and reclamation of territory by hard work.

I agree with other posters than changing your name to escape your past isn't a permanent solution. However, it is quite a significant symbolic gesture, and if having a new name is that important to you in moving on with your life, then I don't see why you should let any naysayers stop you. Just as long as you understand that it really is just a symbolic gesture, and that what you make of it thereafter and how you choose to craft your new life, is entirely up to you.

    I wish you luck.

Edit: or just read Highroller's post above.

I never complained about anyone else posting spoilers. All I did was make fun of Priest of Gix getting up in arms over someone saying that more characters were going to die. Like that doesn't happen in Game of Thrones Rolleyes Also I'm not sure what you're saying I spoiled that the show didn't, because I didn't say anything that hasn't been implied in the show already.

    Read above.

I'm not complaining that people are vaguely implying generic, untold character deaths. As you said, that's a given. I'm complaining because people who cannot contain their enthusiasm are leaving less-than-vague clues about who dies and who lives, that any half-wit could figure out.

For example, earlier in this thread, someone posted something along the lines of:

"Jaime Lannister...yowza! Keep an eye on him, especially as the season progresses".

    This tells me many things:

(mild spoilers - fine if you've watched season so far)

    1. Given what you admitted yourself, that characters die regularly and unexpectedly, a post like the above spoils for me that he survives for most of the season at least, if not all of it. That ruins some of the experience just the same, knowing that's safe for now.

    2. That he will have a more important character arc this season than before, and that we can expect to be surprised in regards to his storyline.

Since I have read the books, I can only guarantee that more characters are going to become worm food. Grin

Can we please try to avoid these types of spoilers? I know it's not direct, but it still removes the element of surprise from a lot of the episodes/books, by telling us that "something" is coming.

I sold 170 Dark Confidants at ~$12 a piece, a few months before they exploded in price up to $45.
