I stopped playing magic for this summer, having a few other thing more important to do... Reading throught the cards available now in T2 i noticed an interesting thing that might spawn a deck if a few peeps give it a try. There are 4 creatures that draw you a card when they come into play : Carven Caryatid, Haru-Onna, Kavu Climber and Phyrexian Gargantua. The obvious thing here is that three of them are green, which is a good thing if you want to play Stampeding Serow. Now that we have a big trampler, why not add another one, our friend Kodama of the North Tree. And if we want these guys to help us win fast, they need to be pushed by elves, namely Llanowar Elves and his dark cousin, Elves of Deep Shadow, who suggest we add some Putrefy to our spellbook.

Anyway... anyone think we could dress a half-decent decklist from this kind of cards?

is this spell arcane just for flavor, since you can't cast it. or is it so you can discard it with psychic spear...

    Quote from GMontag »
That's not what he's saying at all. If you notice, every single card they've printed with Splice onto Arcane is an Arcane spell itself. This is due to reasons of flavor that apply solely to Splice onto Arcane. The issue is that non-kami magic (i.e. a spell that is not Arcane) would not be able to (flavor-wise) chain with kami magic.

    Quote from St@rWizard »
My logic is simple: In a world with spirit magic VS nonspirit magic, the two don't mix together. They chose to make Splice a part of Arcane, so we have Splice onto Arcane spells, all of them being also Arcane, to keep the flavor of binding only Arcane magic together.

If they make splice onto creature, what's to say they have to be in creatures? That would be only if the flavor mimics Kamigawa's (one thing VS the other. In that case, creatures VS the rest). I was merely pointing out Kamigawa's flavor, not the paths the Splice mechanic can follow. Splice onto Arcane spells are also Arcane because of flavor. O-Kagashi's magic can bind together with other spirit's magic, but spirit magic can't join Minamo magic, for instance. It simply doesn't make sence, flavorwise, in kamigawa.

thats what i was wondering in my original post. the only reason why i see that card as being arcane is flavorwise, since it has little to no interaction outside of psychic spear / hana kami since it cant be casted.

How many 1-2 drops you play? I don't play much, and in a slower block like kamigawa, neither do anybody else.

There's a card called Sensei's Divining Top that works WONDERS with the Red epic, which is, of the 3 we know, the easiest to use as a win condition.

OMG i totally read the card wrong... that must be that token producer's fault...I thought it did damage for each card you removed... my bad

    Bounteous Kirin - 5GG
Legendary Creature - Kirin Spirit (R)
    Flying
Whenever you play a Spirit or Arcane spell, you may gain life equal to that spell's converted mana cost.
    4/4

Well you can always gain nine life by playing a second one Smile Other than that its repeatable life gain but it pales in comparison to the other ones.

    Dense Canopy - 1G
    Enchantment
Creatures with flying can't block creatures without flying.

Rare. Is not of much use i guess... unless your opponent just flipped his Student of Elements.

    Descendant of Masumaro - 2G
    Creature - Human Monk
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a +1/+1 counter on Descendant of Masumaro for each card in your hand, then remove a +1/+1 counter from Descendant of Masumaro for each card in target opponent's hand.
    1/1

I could see me playing this in a B/G deck with dicard support. Otherwise can be good against swarm decks. Uncommon?

    Endless Swarm - 5GGG
    Sorcery
Put a 1/1 green Snake creature token into play for each card in your hand.
Epic (For the rest of the game, you can't play spells. At the beginning of each of your upkeeps, copy this spell except for its epic ability.)

I love this Epic. It has synergy in itself and give the quickest route to vitory yet. Rare obv.

    Fiddlehead Kami - 4G
    Creature - Spirit
Whenever you play a Spirit or Arcane spell, regenerate Fiddlehead Kami.
    3/3

Kami of the Painted Road for green. This dude will go in the red zone almost every turn without blinking. Common.

    Kashi-Tribe Elite - 1GG
    Creature - Snake Warrior
Legendary Snakes you control can't be the targets of spells or abilities.
Whenever Kashi-Tribe Elite deals combat damage to a creature, tap that creature and it doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.
    2/3

I guess this guy will be played in Block to save his friends arse from Hero's Demise. I tend towards Uncommon.

Masumaro, First to Live - 3GGG
    Legendary Creature - Spirit (R)
Masumaro, First to Live's power and toughness are each equal to twice the number of cards in your hand.
    */*

This guy will get big and fast. Demands answers fast, or is like green removal... Unspectacular though.

    Molting Skin - 2G
    Enchantment
Return Molting Skin to its owner's hand: Regenerate target creature.

Dont know what Molting means (help me). Way worse then serpent skin except for enchantress, but thats may be pushing it too far. Common (I hope).

Reki, the History of Kamigawa - 2G
Legendary Creature - Human Shaman (R)
Whenever you play a legendary spell, draw a card.
    1/2

Azusa frame, almost as useless ability. How many Legend are you gonna run to make this guy look good?

    Sakura-Tribe Scout - G
    Creature - Snake Shaman Scout
T: You may put a land card from your hand into play.
    1/1

The little snake who wished he was an elf. Why does such a simple card needs 3 creature type? common.

    Seed the Land - 2GG
    Enchantment
Whenever a land comes into play, its controller puts a 1/1 green Snake
    creature token into play.

Rare. Now you can gain 1 life AND put a 1/1 whenever you play a land!! Awesome! /sarcasm

    Seek the Horizon - 3G
    Sorcery
Search your library for up to three basic land cards, reveal them, and put
them into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

This is no Explosive vegetation... I cant see this card making much noise when you have Sakura-Tribe Elder and Kodama's reach in the same block. Common.

    Sekki, Seasons' Guide - 5GGG
    Legendary Creature - Spirit (R)
Sekki, Seasons' Guide comes into play with eight +1/+1 counters on it.
If damage would be dealt to Sekki, prevent that damage, remove that many +1/+1 counters from Sekki, and put that many 1/1 colorless Spirit creature tokens into play.
Sacrifice eight Spirits: Return Sekki from your graveyard to play.

Fun game winning effect. Would like to know if p/t is 0. But look at that casting cost...

    Stampeding Serow - 2GG
    Creature - Beast (U)
    Trample
At the beginning of your upkeep, return a green creature you control to its owner's hand.
    5/4

This guy rock! Bring back that shaman or Wurmskin Forger(why did i think about that...)

Except flavor. It would be quite disappointing to see a spirit spell (aka arcane) taking a ride in a nonspirit spell. Once R&D revives splice in the future and makes 'splice onto creatures' or 'splice onto instants' then we're talking. Splice onto Arcane = Arcane magic that interacts with arcane magic.

the splice target needs to be Arcane since it reads Splice unto Arcane. The card with the Splice ability doesnt need to be arcane. No offense but according to your logic a Splice unto Creature spell would need to be a Creature itself.

the more i think about it the more the red epic looks like crap. you can't play spell for the rest of the game and you're going to do 1 or 2 damage to a target every upkeep. ever heard of Honden of infinite rage. please tell me im missing something

Adamaro, First to Desire - 1RR
    Legendary Creature - Spirit (R)
Adamaro, First to Desire's power and toughness are each equal to the number of cards in the hand of the opponent with the most cards in hand.
    */*

I guess this card will be fun in multiplayer. Punish an opponent for having a big handed partner. As this guy comes out early it'll tend to be huge, and huge creatures that come out fast can't be that bad.

    Feral Lightning - 3RRR
    Sorcery
Put three 3/1 red Elemental creature tokens with haste into play. Remove them from the game at end of turn.

At first i thought this was crap but 9 power coming out hasted can be good as it is unexpected. Hope it won't be rare, casting cost could allow it to be uncommon as it would be hard to support it in limited.

    Gaze of Adamaro - 2RR
    Instant - Arcane
Gaze of Adamaro deals damage equal to the number of cards in target player's hand to that player.

Sudden Impact as an arcane. This card will probably hit hard at the prerelease but then it doesn't hit creature. I say uncommon.

    Godo's Irregulars - R
    Creature - Human Warrior
R: Godo's Irregulars deals 1 damage to target creature blocking it.
    1/1

Nice one drop that can take out much larger threat. The only common i can think of that it can't kill is Humble Budoka. I don't think it'll get blocked too often though. Probably common.

    Hidetsugu's Second Rite - 3R
    Instant
If target player has exactly 10 life, Hidetsugu's Second Rite deals 10 damage to that player.

Flavorfull card but awfully situational. Can only see this played in casual deck with it's namesake Ogre. Too weird to be a common and low power level would put it at uncommon.

    Homura, Human Ascendant - 4RR
Legendary Creature - Human Monk (R)
    Homura, Human Ascendant can't block.
When Homura is put into a graveyard from play, return it to play flipped.
    4/4
    //flip//
    Homura's Essence
    Legendary Enchantment
Creatures you control get +2/+2 and have flying and "R: This creature gets +1/+0 until end of turn.".

Yay! Human ascendant. Who would have thought? Making all your creatures into Shivan dragons is huge and it has the easiest flip condition on any flip card yet. I like it a lot

    Inner Fire - 3R
    Sorcery
Add R to your mana pool for each card in your hand.

Crap... I'd play seething song over this any day... Common or i jump from a bridge

    Into the Fray - R
    Instant - Arcane
Target creature attacks this turn if able.
    Splice onto Arcane R

Cheap arcane that lets you get rid of pesky creature. Not much else to add. I'd say common but wouldn't be too surprised it it were uncommon.

Oni of Wild Places - 5R
    Creature - Demon Spirit
    Haste
At the beginning of your upkeep, return a red creature you control to its owner's hand.
    6/5

I like this guy a lot. 6/5 hasted, splashable, and can return those guys that got enchanted with Cage of Hands or Mystic Restraints. How about uncommon

    Path of Anger's Flame - 2R
    Instant - Arcane
Creatures you control get +2/+0 until end of turn.

This is a nice effect for the decks i like to play in limited. Creature swarm love this spell. I'd say common

    Rally the Horde - 5R
    Sorcery
Remove the top three cards of your library from the game. If the last card removed isn't a land, repeat this process until the last card removed is a land. Put a 1/1 red Warrior creature token into play for each nonland card removed from the game this way.

This has to be rare so it won't have too much impact on limited although I wouldnt mind opening this at the prerelease. Can be set up with Sensei's Divining Top, but as any "random" effect, it cant be used to full potential. Even Krark's Thumb wont help.

    Skyfire Kirin - 2RR
Legendary Creature - Kirin Spirit (R)
    Flying
Whenever you play a Spirit or Arcane spell, you may gain control of target creature with that spell's converted mana cost until end of turn.
    3/3

3/3 Flyer for 4 is solid (Go Go phantom monster) but his ability is kinda bleh. No haste on the stolen crits and it wont help against a collossus.

    Sokenzan Renegade - 2R
    Creature - Ogre Samurai Mercenary
    Bushido 1
At the beginning of your upkeep, if a player has more cards in hand than any other, the player with the most cards in hand gains control of Sokenzan Renegade.
    3/3

Well Drooling Ogre took a samurai class it seems. I'm not well versed in the japanese stuff but i thought samurai were loyal to their master. Samurai mercenary sound weird. I say common.

    Sokenzan Spellblade - 4R
Creature - Ogre Samurai Shaman Wtf
    Bushido 1
1R: Sokenzan Spellblade gets +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is the number of cards in your hand.
    2/3

And i thought Samurai Mercenary was weird... Ogre really do things their way around Kamigawa. I can see myself playing this card in concert with Soratami Mirror-Guard or the mindbender dude.

    Undying Flames - 4RR
    Sorcery
Remove cards from the top of your library from the game until you remove a nonland card. Undying Flames deals damage to target creature or player equal to that card's converted mana cost.
Epic (For the rest of the game, you can't play spells. At the beginning of each of your upkeeps, copy this spell except for its epic ability. You may choose a new target for the copy.)

Better hope the wording is wrong. I can't see anyone playing this card over something like Goblin Charbelcher. Even a CoP:Red shuts this down entirely... How sad. Rare obv.

    Yuki-Onna - 3R
    Creature - Spirit
When Yuki-Onna comes into play, destroy target artifact.
Whenever you play a Spirit or Arcane spell, you may return Yuki-Onna to its owner's hand.
    3/1

I'm very disapointed with this card. I was expecting Ghitu Slinger or Avanlanche Rider ability. But then i thought the white one was going to mimic Teroh's Faithful... Oh well

Mochi: "He's a lot like me, that masterless little kami... unimpressed by grandeur and never at a loss for a trick." -Toshiro Umezawa (cool flavor text)

Descendant of Saromaro: "Saromaro speaks through me. Listen! And I will tell the wisdom of the ancestors." (clichee)
