wizard: we have printed this 3 cards. They are 50$ on the secondary market, so pay us 40$
also wizard: yeah these booster have only 12 nonland cards and the other 8 cards are basic lands. You should still be paying us more than a normal booster because printing more cards is still expensive
    people with a brain: complain

Do we know that these will contain more than one basic land? I was under the impression you shuffled some of the 40ish cards in with 20ish external basic lands.

Also, if the packs contain more rares than regular packs or better cards in general, I think the 3 card difference isn't that big of a deal.

Despite the current upset among the MTGSal population about product overload, I really like the concept behind these packs. Grab two packs sit down and you have a deck (I'm guessing you still need basic lands). It still contains the random factor of a draft or a sealed event, but you have less potential to get screwed. It also aids new players by most likely having cards on curve that work well together, but also attracts old players for the new cards, reprints, and random excitement of an "instant" deck. I'm really excited to try this out. Probably one of the better new products MtG has put out in awhile.

Oooo this is exciting! Man these names... Ruthless Regiment sounds Mardu to me. Perhaps we are digging into wedges again?

Man, you guys sound like Doomsayers.

At the end of the day it's just another interesting product people will buy until they don't, and WotC is always changing their Magic products, so does it really matter? They like to keep things fresh.

Does that further suggest that all the monsters in Ikoria are the result of a nuclear fallout, ala Godzilla?
    Mutations can be natural.

Evolutionary-speaking, yes. But as an ability, in a game called Magic, surely it suggest something more rapid and transformative than evolutionary mutations. But blah blah, no way of knowing at this point.

I would assume magical mutations before I assume radioactivity, but that's just because we are living in the Magic Multiverse. There's probably some power source coming from this world that let's monsters grow out of control or something

Cevir is a crazy efficient energy maker. I don't think I would be comfortable with that effect costing less than 5.

Vara is fine but I have to ask. Why deathtouch? Its perfectly fine for the color combination but it feels very strange with the flavor of the card.

Cevir is a little strong; I originally imagine it was going to be 3 energy gained by the time it was your turn again, but I forgot that it triggers off multiple draws. Maybe change it to focus on your own card draw, or whenever an opponent draws their first card each turn?

On the Deathtouch, I guess flavorwise it makes sense? maybe he is good at destroying things so that way he can scrap salvage them later?

I like the idea of recursion on a land, but I'm also scared of it. Making counter removal a cost to the recursion could be a good way to balance it.

I don't think it's that scary. Look how much you need to actually turn it on

I like it. I'm a bit biased because I love black green, I love sacrifice and graveyard stuff, and I love utility lands, but those aside I think the "level up" land is quite interesting. I think you might be pushing it though with the tap for colored mana ability. I would cut that and keep it simple and it would make it more balanced.

    No Theros no care

Then get lost. This thread is not about Theros, so don't waste your time as well as ours.

I for one love this; Marrow Gnawer was actually kind of pricey. Not that this will drop the price, but it will increase a bit of circulation for those ratatouille fans out there.

I think there's a small percentage of people who like un-sets and are at best indifferent about the full art lands...

My playgroup and I love them. They offer a really funny and relaxed environment to our regular games, and WotC has really streamlined the new unstable cards so they actually seem fair, balanced, and playable. We have an entire Unstable set as a cube, and its probably the most fun we have with pauper in a close second.

  • posted a message on A Proposal: White needs "X"
My fellow EDH players out there will agree that white needs something to make it more competitive. It's been discussed numerous times, but I am curious as to what people think white actually needs. Card advantage and mana ramp are among the most common topics in discussion.

Things I believe white should get:

Situational Card Draw - Why not? I am a firm believer in the color pie, but it feels silly that all the other colors can draw cards while white struggles. Give white situational card draw that plays into its strengths and what white naturally does.

    Vital Devotion 2W
At the beginning of each end step, if you gained 4 or more life this turn, draw a card.

Mana Fixing - White had had some land draw/ramp cards before. I think white should blend more with green in being able to search for lands. I don't think white should often step into the territory of directly ramping cards, but I think finding a basic out of a deck is something white could do.

    Wayward Nomads 1W
    Creature - Human Nomad
When ~ enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a basic land, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.

What do you guys think? Propose some cards, ideas, etc

Now that Theros is out of the way (Thank God), we can speculate about this set some more. I am all too excited to just play some epic monsters and fight to the death. Not that sissy enchantment way, no; true magic players fight with MONSTERS
