A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

Well I had posted up this idea of having a "pseudo competitive" forum for the other decks long ago, but it is starting to be taken seriously since a LOT of people are voicing their desire to have such a setup. We're still trying to work out the kinks, and when such a forum becomes implemented, all the decks that people complain about not being around (Such as Kithkin for instance) will have a place to go.

Anyone wanting to share their input on how we should execute this new method (it's not final yet by any means, but we need to come up with a workable plan). Obviously we want to foster an equal amount of strategy between the two forums (i.e. we don't want just "scrubs" in the new forum)

And in regards to Swans and MBC... Although most people will agree that it is not the strongest deck and that it has posted no results, the problem is the moment I move a thread like that a ton of users come knocking on my door claiming they have results blah blah blah... So I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place to a certain degree. We've given leniency to these decks since A) Regionals hasn't happened in North America yet, and B) We've been working on a solution to this problem for a while now. Even years ago when I moderated this place before, the same problem would always crop up, and certain people would get more fanatic about it than others.

Ultimately, regardless of the outcome, some users will need to learn that we (the mods) need to cater to everyone, not just the players who are overzealous of the definition of "Competitive".

I'll be honest, I find this highly suspect.

If this was supposed to be in Eventide, it might be believeable to me (even without seeing anything). But stuff coming in from Alara BEFORE Eventide? Yeah right...

Now unless there was some kind of bizarre typo and whoever is going to backpeddle and keep saying "It's real it's real"... I'm calling fake on this.

Well, I went ahead and bought two Lorwyn boxes today... Here's what I pulled in my two boxes:

Can't say I'm complaining! I think those were two pretty good boxes... Loaded with lots of playable goodies Grin

I think I'm going to put together U/B Fae... I've got a buddy whos got a bunch of what I need and he's putting together goblins (which I have enough goodies of to get his interest). Since I've already got the Blossoms and will need to work on getting Mutavaults anyway... I've got a bunch of everything else (he has 2 scions and a mistbind, putting me at 3 each).

Do you mean Spiteful Visions? Because I think that's the card you are referring to, not Everlasting Torment.

And on that note, if you're referring to visions, then I personally think it's a little too slow... If it was 3cc I think I'd be cool with it, but at 4 it starts to get difficult to play. I'd definitely make Magus of the Moon maindeck though, since it hoses a LOT of decks if it comes into play quickly and they can't find an answer for it.

I tend to keep my signature clear of pretty much everything except my banner. I only recently added the line of being co-founder of a team, because we're new and I feel it's important to show some pride... As for putting Moderator in there as well, it lets users know exactly where I moderate... And sometimes people don't notice the whole mod tag to begin with.

Other than that, I keep basically any quotes out of my actual sig... That's what the extendo is for in my books. I've seen people quote me in their sigs, which I get jazzed about.

    Picard wins.

While Adama has also had a long battle career, Picard has as well. Picard has fought against numerous living races, but the majority of Adama's battle experience (the Cylon War) is with centurions -- not exactly known for subtlety and tactics but just raw firepower. Even the skinjobs haven't shown particular skill in combat tactics (other than send-basestars-and -attack) but are better at infiltration. Picard has thousands of years of earth (and non-earth) warfare history to look back on and reference. I've seen some theories that suggested that the history of the colonies is much shorter -- a couple of thousand years at most, and most of that is in peacetime.

I'm pretty much in agreement with this. I really like the point about Adama fighting one enemy who's tactics never seem to change... Picard has faced many many many opponents, each utilizing different strategies to try and defeat him. Picard's experience should definitely not be discounted. I'm not saying it wouldn't be an epic battle or anything, but I think Picard is more controlled, more logical and has the experience that comes from a LOT of variety to allow him to employ incredible tactics.

And as said, he is HUGE on studying history... He has great military strategists from across the stars to look to when thinking of a battle strategy.

Yeah, but the same can be said for Shadowmoor... I mean, the cards that are valuable (and to me, that's not really the issue... it's more like USEFUL) are Bitterblossom (already have a playset), Mutavault and Chameleon Colossus... The odds of getting a bunch of those are less than getting a BUNCH of albeit random but still useful in broad applications.

I'm definitely not getting Shadowmoor though... I'm not terribly impressed with the rares of that set.

Hey guys, I'm looking at rebuilding my collections so I'm planning on buying two boxes of SOMETHING.... I was thinking about investing in Lorwyn, since it seems to have the most playable rares of all the sets right now, but I'm looking for some additional opinions.

As said, I'm looking to build up my playability collection for Type II... and to shed a LITTLE bit of light, I already have 4 Bitterblossoms, so the only reason to get Morningtide would be for Mutavaults, Chameleon Colossus and Reveillarks... So I figure that being able to crack Mistbind, Scion, Garruk, Thoughtseize, Cryptic Command, Profane Command...

I think I'm going to be going for Lorwyn, but additional opinions are certainly welcome.

this isnt just a problem with Ramp tbh, its the entire format.

Well yes and no, there will always be variation in lists... But this is ESPECIALLY the case in R/G ramp. Finding T8 lists at the time was very difficult, and then there was MASSIVE variation between them. As said, Regionals will give me a some more lists to play with, and itll let me know if it deserves tier 1 status (I do suspect thats the case, but as said, i have had a lot of trouble finding a lot of t8 ramp lists).

Except consider all the other stuff: Thoughtseize, Mutavault, Dual lands of the season (whether they be hybrids or some other form... every big set seems to have some variation of them), all of THOSE are costing something like 25% less... Trust me, it's the utility cards that EVERYONE needs that actually are usually the really pricey ones.

You might be spending 40-80 bucks more on a certain playset, but if you're saving something like 100-200 more on the REST of your deck, that seems totally worth it to me.

I agree, I had read over that just recently.

It'll probably get stickied again, but I would like to get a couple more "Official" lists to solidify it's status. Part of the slowness with moving/stickying threads lately has been that I've been drafting/revising making more detailed forum rules and have been spending a LOT of time doing that. There are probably a bazillion things that need to be fixed/changed/improved in this forum, so I'm kind of taking it one step at a time here... lol.

Regionals will kind of give the final say on the current metagame methinks, since it will be the most widespread source of tournament results we'll have for this T2 season until Eventide comes out.

The thing is, I was looking for additional lists from various other tournaments in the Top 8s, and I couldn't really find any. Now maybe I should look again as I'm sure more tournaments have happened, but even though the deck made top 8 that doesn't necessarily mean it's tier 1.

I've been thinking it should be going up there... But the other side of the coin is that there are so many different forms of R/G ramp decks and R/G in general that end up getting categorized as "ramp" that it's hard to have it as a particular tier 1 archetype, since there's SO much variation between builds.

    The fact that this
A)Doesn't even have a proper poll installed (as mentioned, you can't just say "Yes" and "Maybe"... there are those who would believe in a strict "no")

    and

B)Has spiraled out of control is inclining me to close it. I'll leave it open on the condition that it cools down in here and decent posts start to get posted.
