Feb 4, 2014pandafarmer posted a message on Launch Giveaway!Gifts Ungiven. You can build so many interesting decks with it, and we've seen several that were tournament viable. Watching pros play that deck during CHK Standard taught me more about how to play Magic than anything else.Posted in: Announcements

Yeah, it saw some play in zombie builds as a way to Blood Artist people to death. Killing Wave where X=0 and sac everything for lethal.
Some perspective for that Dar Confidant thread... keep in mind that at the time people were perfectly fine losing 1 life to draw an extra card, but we really didn't have anything other than that to compare this with. This seemed risky, and indeed the card didn't see a huge amount of play for a while. People were dying to Bob triggers like crazy, even with Top in the format.
So yeah, if this card was spoiled today people would indeed find the value, but it's pretty understandable why he'd be considered underwhelming then. Same with Goyf, really.
Just basing my views on playing Post decks in the last couple of months before rotation. Bombs ended up being not very good, Plate Mail ended up being relegated to SB, and win condition skewed heavily to Accord. However, this is post rotation which could change everything we'd tested before.
I hope I'll be able to test some this weekend, and I'll be trying decks both with and without Accord. I'll report if I get this chance.
That's hardly a win more... I think the problem with many Post decks is they try too hard to be cute. This is fine, but many times you end up mucking things up because you're cramming a million things into the deck in order to have options. Many times pooping out a 4/4 flyer is the correct choice.
This was the old thread. Some similar discussions going around in there... though it's pre-rotation talk. Good read though since these folks were hammering out the deck for a couple of months already and came to some conlusions worth noting.
Now granted, I have not been able to test the decks with any new cards, so UW may end up being better in the end... but I scrapped using Plate Mails pretty quickly in my tests a couple of months ago because they ended up being pretty awkward.
Or more spacifically... which type. People forget that control from two years ago was NOT the same deck that people are used to playing today. Some similar ideas yes, but I think the problem now is that people are dead set on finding a way to replace Drownyard, when control decks didn't even play Drownyard or even Jace until this last year.
Control will be just fine, it just won't look the same.
As for Thoughtsieze... I doubt it... just seems like they like to push limited and casual play with these things.
As an Esper player... very happy I get BW and UB lands together.
