Cathartic reunion is a ridiculously strong dredge enabler

New Chandra is extremely strong, but it's not the same as mind sculptor. People will use it as if it was one, but it's not really the same.

Honestly unsure if it's better in jeskai than nahiri and Emmy. I think it's good for jund as the 4 drop, it's certainly better than pyromaster and people were playing that one.

A white recruiter likely means I no longer need to play Imperial death and taxes. I really missed the stronger manabase on mono white.

I can't fathom how strong this card it. It's certainly strong, but its hard to immediately recognize the potential this soon.

I guess it lets you try to run a graveyard centric Valakut deck.

Holy *****. It's actually just Wild Mongrel. With reach?? Just so you can fight Affinity and Infect?

    I think that's a format changer.

MARKET RESEARCH HAS SHOWN WE CAN STILL AFFORD TO GO ABSOLUTELY BAT***** INSANE ON SOME OF THE DRAFT CHAFF.

SO WE DECIDED TO MAKE ANOTHER WILD MONGREL. WHILE BEING FULLY AWARE OF HOW MUCH OF A MISTAKE WILD MONGREL WAS BACK IN THE DAY.

Actually a big reason why mongrel was strong was the color change ability which made it immune to most decent removal back then. So in context this card would have been weaker than mongrel was.

I don't think Fortune's Favor is particularly strong, but it's the exact type of card that I really like to play.

Moved to the EMN spoiler thread from the SOI one. Remember to check your titles!

I'll be the first to throw this out here: Geier Reach Sanitarium is disgusting with Spirit of the Labyrinth.

    I definitely agree.

That feels too "magical christmas land" to be applicable in a real game. It's also a lot of resources tied up to it.

In my personal experience Accumulated Knowledge is stronger than Think Twice because of the card velocity. But if you are talking about those slow control decks that play Think Twice it probably wouldn't see play in those either.

New Thalia seems pretty strong, but she's much better in Legacy DnT than any sort of modern form of that deck. Without the ability to easily mana denial she's not nearly as good.

There's lots of fun tricks with her and Flickerwisp though. Pretty sure if you flickerwisp a land at their endstep with her in play you get two turns worth of mana denial out of it, which is neat. Nice Tempo swing for you as well.

Edit: I got it mostly right, you want to flickerwisp their land at *your* End step. That way it comes back tapped at their end step which basically gives you two mana denial turns.

The best part about the new Thalia is that she doesn't have 1 toughness. I wasnt immediately impressed when I first read her, but it seems ok. I've been playing a VERY stock list recently and I imagine i'd try her as a two of over Mirran crusader.

    oh crap...

    better than Newlamog... thx wotc!

uncounterable mind slaver in RG Tron, protection from instants is just another way to type hexproof (since you will gain control of the other guy next turn and use his sorceries/tap all his mana), while costs about 10 considering that Tron will probably have artifact/sorcery in the yard

everytime someone in wotc revisits colorless ideas a kitten dies, yes it does

PS:ok i'm hasty, i didn;t notice the extra turn part, my bad sorry! still definately a good card and will compete with Newulamog for supremacy of the Eldrazi both in story and in Modern

It is so much weaker than newlamog

Eh, I only care to watch magic in non rotating formats. Plus because I do other things than follow magic, keeping up with Standard and limited is to time intensive for me. At least with Modern and Legacy I know the general format very well and once you do that its easy to stay on top of stuff.

I also think this is lazy on WOTC's part. They can't be assed to keep up with the format so they say whatever. I hope it blows up in their face when they realize that you need relevant formats after standard.

All of the data from tournaments so far show that Sword of the meek is not taking over the format. Plus It finally allowed control to be in the format.

BUT I HATE BLUE AND PEOPLE WHO ENJOY PLAYING CONTROL. THIS WAS A MISTAKE

There was also the japanese version of the Duel Deck as well. So remember if you think you are getting such a good idea on foreign ones.

Do we want to consider Invasive Surgery if Scapeshift gains in popularity?

I have no idea how to play this deck but I'm guessing these are some Gifts piles:

    vs. ThopterSword: Elesh Norn/Unburial Rites
vs. RG Tron: G1 Newlamog/Unburial Rites, G2 side in Terastodon(if they get Karn/Newlamog before you you're doomed)
vs. Grishoalbrand: Dispel/Negate/Surgical/Spell Snare (assuming you survive long enough)
when you need to stabilize: 3 boardwipes + Timely Reinforcements
when you need to grind: Foundry/Sword/Academy Ruins/Crucible

The deck is still in flux, We're currently unsure how the best way to integrate Thopter Sword is. The primer has some really solid examples of pre set gifts piles if you want to check it out. Gifts takes time to figure out how to play because it depends so much on your list, and the current game state.

In general you seem to have a strong idea of what you are doing, Gifts for Rites + Fatty of choice in good matchup is game ending when it's safe to pull the trigger, but almost every other situation depends on where you are. Sometimes you want to gifts for counterspells and board wipes. Sometimes you want to gifts for better ways to cycle through your deck. Sometimes you need to gifts for lands.

Just some things of notes when playing gifts. Gifts for another Gifts is often really strong in grindy matchups. People rarely want to give you another Gifts because it just helps you cycle through your deck so quickly. Gifts for Emrakul is also strong because recycling our deck is often something that can be backbreaking to the opponent.

    @bigdeezyrider

Our decks are pretty different but I can understand most of the choices. The only one I don't really understand is the Ulamog. I'm curious why you are running him over Wurmcoil Engine or Karn / Ugin.
