Hi, please forgive me the stupid newbie question but I've been out of the game since just after Time Spiral came out. Changing the color of a land card (say, through use of a Cloudchaser Kestral) has what effect on the mana produced by that land? And on a Rakdos Carnarium or similar multi-mana land? I can't find it on the fourm here or in the comprehensive rules. And more importantly, could you tell me where it is in the rulebook? So I can convince my playgroup if it doesn't work the way they want it to. Thanks, Llama
I dunno man, it sounds tough. When I first started playing constructed Magic here, the judge was pretty bad, but the TO listened when we complained about it. Now we've got a new judge. He also threatened to paste the comprehensive rulebook on one wall, but has been printing it a few pages at a time. (we still get into frequent, loud rules debates, but at least they're more-or-less friendly and we go look up the ruling eventually)
Is your TO as bad as the rest of the players? Maybe if you talked to him in private you could at lest get a different judge. Do you know any other people you could drag along with you? People you like. People who might improve the atmosphere.
I guess you could always deliberatly start a rules arguement, then direct people here or to Saturday School's archives or something. In hopes that they get interested and educate themselves. Or complain to the DCI about the judge. If it was that bad. I don't know how much that would help though.
I've never gotten a poisin deck to work and I've never been killed by one. Which, considering the fact that almost every player in my group has a poisin deck they fiddle around with a little says something... about something... but rather it's poisin or the group I don't know.
Of course, the fact that we've never gotten it to work yet we keep messing around with it should say something too...
Just wondering if anyone knew if any had been done and could point me in their direction. I can turn up as many papers as you want about violence and video games and more than a few about MMORPGs but I want studies of people who play tabe-top games. Magic, RPGs, board games, whatever. I'm not doing any serious research, I was just talking to my mother about the group I game with and she was asking all kinds of questions I couldn't answer. Made me curious.
*Edit* Samurai, I don't remember that one at all. Which means I just took it to a thesaurus and it jumped out at me. Try looking for "darkness," that seems to be what I remember looking up.
I'm pretty Golgari, even though the smell might be a little... unappealing. They're not all "Zombies... *groan* brains..." They're a fascination with death, yes, but with life too and the idea that the two are not mutually exclusive. Maximum use of resources. Recycling. Rebirth.
And an interesting note: The two lowest voted guilds are the R/G and B/R. The two least restrained, most smashy guilds out there. Just interesting.
It's been this way for me for months. I'm going to a more populated area soon and I'd like to be able to contact some judges in the area to see what the chances are I can test for certification. Any ideas?
It doesn't seem to work for me. I click the "worldwide list of judges" on the DCI's judge page and a page comes up with a drop-down that says "select your country" and I select United States and it loads a page... that looks exactly like the page I just left. I've tried a couple other random countries too, but can't find one that works. Is something wrong with the list? (it's been this way a long time) Is there someplace else I should be looking for judge contact info? Am I just a loony and looking in a totally wrong place?
Thanks for any help you might have....

It wasn't 4000. There are a limited number of letters in that grouping. And most of them are within a 3 or 4 page range in gatherer. I'm probably going to have to look through all 4000 enventually though... some of them are hard.
Was sixteen the long one based on a credit card commercial?
#30 I ended up bringing up all Extended legal cards in Gatherer and looking 'til I found one that matched. There are relativly few consonants. And several of them have few words in them. I just skimmed each section, keeping in mind that there were a lot of 'a' and no letters that hung down under the line. It got me there eventually...

Good luck.
