If Divine Intervention enters the battlefield while there is a Solemnity out, it won't be able to get any intervention counters. Without any intervention counters, you'll never be able to remove the last intervention counter, so the Divine intervention won't do anything.

Reminds me of Kessig Prowler, but with additional upsides for the extra mana.

The full art is great but without the reminder text. I wonder if I will simply use a regular card as the token, or a custom card with the reminder text.
The embalms have tokens, so it would be weird if eternalize didn't have tokens, especially when the P/T is different.

Fencing Ace is a poor baseline, but the eternalize definitely makes this worth a try.

So the "Gods" in HOU can attack and block unconditionally? That's different, kind of a flavor departure.

A self-recurring threat is pretty strong. Add in a draw engine/Masticore effect and you get a very strong card for a grindy lategame deck. That's not where Rakdos has been traditionally, but it could put in work in a Grixis control shell. I don't think it makes the cut for me, just because there are too many black/red decks that don't want this kind of effect.

Just wanted to say that your cube is totally different than mine, but it's awesome. I've loved drafting yours on cube tutor over the last year. Some of the custom cards you've done are awesome, like the green dude that gives creature spells convoke and especially Collapsing Plane, which Wizards ought to print.
Thanks man! That makes my day to hear! I've been too busy for cube the last few months, but I'm finally drafting again soon!

I've thought about putting together a 20 card expansion with power 9, Library, Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Moat, Arcane Savant, Booster Tutor, Volatile Chimera, Caller of the Untamed, Aether Searcher, and Cogwork Librarian. Or some mix like that. It would make for a totally different experience, I'd think.
Caller of the Untamed and Aether Searcher are generally much lower power level than the rest of those, but that's fine. They still let you do fun wacky things. I would give it a shot, at least once your group gets used to your cube as it is.

That planeswalker reminds me of this one that's been in my cube for a long time. Who doesn't love a bunch of copy effects?

I had a version of Cogwork in my cube in January 2012 (except it didn't let you use it on a first pick, because that would be broken). I was just inspired to dig up the original from my email. Since it was actually printed, I've experimented with different levels of conspiracy and draft-matters stuff, and one slot per 2-3 packs seemed to be the sweet spot where people get to play with them but they don't feel too game-warping every game. I love them.

Toughness looks more like 1 to me here, which is a lot less exciting. As a 2/1, I don't think I run it, though I would still consider it if I ran 0 mana artifacts to steal.

The card is obviously going to be insta-errata'd to "another target...". Shoddy editing, but not surprising given their recent track record.

I did out the grid. I included my submission; you can choose to care about it or not.

There were some weird decks this time around. I'm pretty sure sockfresh didn't understand the round rule (yes, it replaces exile with exile+return+phase). WhammeWhamme's deck looks cool, but can't pay Stasis's upkeep on turn 3, which leaves a hole against Dreadnaught. Realm and Stasis also don't interact as well as he hoped - the opponent can phase out lands, stopping the upkeep from being paid. Mogg's deck has the problem that if he plays turn 1 Miner and the Dreadnaught is answered, he loses to Mana Crypt.

    X | 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
    1 | X 2 6 2 6 6 6 3
    2 | 2 X 6 4 6 6 6 3
    3 | 0 0 X 3 6 6 6 0
    4 | 2 1 3 X 6 6 6 0
    5 | 0 0 0 0 X 6 6 0
    6 | 0 0 0 0 0 X 6 0
    7 | 0 0 0 0 0 0 X 0
    8 | 3 3 6 6 6 6 6 X
Feyd_Ruin vs WhammeWhamme is 6-0 because if WW plays Stasis on turn 2, he can't pay the upkeep on turn 3 which allows Feyd one more attack (with Misstep stopping Summons from making chump blockers).

I could have sworn I submitted (Pardic Miner / Mental Misstep / Chancellor of the Tangle). Did it not go through?

Edit: Yup, stupid forums. Sitting in my drafts.

If your Shapeshifter has the Changeling keyword ability, like Taurean Mauler, then Cavern of Souls will apply to it as long as you have chosen any creature type.

Some Shapeshifters, such as Shifty Doppelganger, do not have that ability, and Cavern will only apply to them if you chose Shapeshifter as the creature type.

Presuming you have retained priority and put all the activated abilities on the stack before you give priority back to your opponent, you will have already lost 8 life by the time the disenchant has gone on the stack and will still exile 8 cards.
Why would you presume that? The player did not specify, and the default assumption is that the player is proposing a shortcut to [activate, pass, pass, activation resolves] x8, even if he's not entirely sure how the stack works. If the opponent responds with Disenchant, he needs to specify which activation he is responding to, and then OP would have the option of activating Necro more in response to the Disenchant (again, once at a time by default).

Which mimics the rule about how replacement effects modify how a permanent enters the battlefield. So my answer in the old thread is still right and now we have an actual rule to support it. Taurean Mauler and the Sprout saproling enter the battlefield.
I would disagree with "still right" given that the rule did not exist before, but clearly that is how it works now.

Just to be clear, because I haven't been able to follow every nuance of the conversation thus far, is the only reason Worms of the Earth is causing a fuss is because its "Lands can't enter the battlefield" ability is a continuous effect and not a replacement effect? Like, for some reason the rules don't cover that sort of thing explicitly, but if it were worded as a replacement effect such as the way Containment Priest, Mycosynth Lattice, and March of the Machines interact, it wouldn't be a problem? The rules would address that?
Yes, 614.12 would be a clear-cut answer if it were a replacement effect, and there is no equivalent super-clear rule that does apply.

Isn't that Cranial Insertion answer simply wrong though? They seem to just be applying 614.12 (the only "list of effects" they could be thinking of) when no replacement effects are involved.

The only interpretation so far that makes sense is that the event that is about to happen will satisfy the condition "a land enters the battlefield", so Worms of the Earth stops it from happening.

And Roccovsky, 613.10 pertains to the order in which continuous effects are applied to determine the state of an object (i.e. layers). It's completely unrelated.

  • posted a message on New cycling matter cards
"When you cycle" doesn't mean when you activate the cycling ability. It means when you discard the card to pay for the cost of the cycling ability.
702.28c. Some cards with cycling have abilities that trigger when they're cycled. "When you cycle [this card]" means "When you discard [this card] to pay a cycling cost." These abilities trigger from whatever zone the card winds up in after it's cycled.

So the discard and the cycle are the same event, and you only "discarded or cycled" the card once. There's unambiguously only one trigger. I have to agree that it was a terrible templating decision though.
