I am so glad I didn't invest in foil mystics for my elves deck yet, this is a beautiful card. Elves do seem to have gotten a lot of promo love over the years, there aren't too many cards in Legacy Elves that don't have a promo version. I think my favorite part is the quote, it gives me hope we'll see the return of Nissa sometime soon.
It's probably a long-shot, but the one card I can think of that's part of an existing tribe in modern and would have a significant impact on modern would be True-Name Nemesis. It's powerful but not unbeatable, it fits with other cards in Theros, and even in standard it won't warp the format as long as they print a board wipe or two in BNG (which I'm fairly confident they will given there is only Supreme Verdict and kinda Cyclonic Rift right now).
Kamigawa is a solid no. Additionally, Lorwyn was stated that it was unlikely to ever come back. As you mentioned, theros is the closing chapter of the Innistrad-Ravnica-Theros multicolor siesta. So Alara is out. Only Dominaria and Zendikar are possible and it's been reiterated over and over that Dominaria would be no time soon. Next block will either be Khanar or Zendikar.
How long has it been since they said Dominaria was a long time out? The last "Dominiria" block was Time Spiral right? And I don't know if I even count that given it was more about experimentation and having a reason to create neo-walkers. Definitely hoping for Dominiria myself, too many good memories.
I've never seen a Walmart where cards weren't behind the counter with things like cigarettes and baby formula.
Where do you live? Certainly all Walmarts have cigarettes behind the counter, but this is actually the first I've heard of a walmart having either baby formula or trading cards being there, and I've lived in some rough places. Anyone else have Walmarts where the cards aren't out in the open in that row next to the registers?
The Walmarts / Targets in my area are stocked by a third party vendor (Excell Marketing I believe, if you're curious) that seems to only restock things whenever they feel like it. Their schedule has been somewhat inconsistent and makes finding new stuff difficult to predict.
I used to work at a Walmart, and part of the problem with Excell restocks is that trading cards in general are a huuuuuuuuuuuge target for theft. Most products in a place like Walmart are restocked on an automatic system that triggers stocking when a certain number of the item has been purchased. When items are stolen though, this system is bypassed and so a delay is caused in restocking until the right number is purchased (which sometimes never happens if enough are stolen).
Since packs and products with random, unknown contents get stolen all the time, I have no doubt that the commander decks, especially the Mind Seize one, are getting taken right and left since their value is guaranteed. So until some manager or stocker cares to notice they are out but haven't been restocked (which, I'll be honest, almost never happens), Excell won't be notified to send another shipment.
Just a little Minotaur tribal action I'm going to play this friday for fun. I know it's not gonna be uber-competitive, but I'd love to hear any suggestions or feedback.
I'm not sure how I missed this (no one else seems surprised so I'm guessing it was something everyone figured out earlier), but I'm disappointed to not see a second planeswalker in the set. Just one is pretty lame, especially given a set with so many color combos it sucks to have only one of the guilds get a new walker. Idk, it just feels weird to only have one after having two a set for so long.
All of my mill decks (standard, modern, legacy, commander) will happily welcome breaking to their deck lists. It's no Glimpse the Unthinkable, but it's basically another mind sculpt for one more and no real drawback besides needing a blue and a black. Nice to see them continuing to give mill some love.
I think WOTC reprinting imperial seal might really happen, as the card is very rare to come by unless you've got the cash and by reprinting it in 9th they would not only lower the financial burden on type 1 players but also level the playing feild for those who otherwise could not afford one. Mostly I'd just like to see it in 9th so I could have half a chance of getting one. :grin2:
I am also a big fan of suicide black, especially as I play in a completly unpowered meta. Unfortunatly my meta is also very aggressive, so I am constantly looking for ways to fight aggro. The answers are pretty slim for black, but here is what I've come up with so far:
Infest
Sorceress Queen (I know...but it works)
Masticore (of course) Contagion Kiku, Night's Flower (to slow for elves, white weenie, or the occasional ravager I see, but can be useful)
Engineered Plague
I know, red and white together, but hey, it's casual right? Anyway I would like to build a Red and White Heartless deck, mainly to cash in on spirit link. I would like it to be as competitive as R/W combo can be, but I dont really know what to put in it. Some basic burn, a few overblaze, wrath of god, loxodon war hammer perhaps, and possibly worship w/ darksteel brute for even more combo fun are all I can come up with. All I've played in type 2 so far has been KCI, but with the new bannings, I think it's time to spread out. Will the artifact hate be toned down enough to try for burn or holy day on a scepter?
Well, I know it would be quicker to have the mox, however the myr can always attack and personally I just like the flavor better. Actually, I would really like a way to have both in the deck so as to provide even better mana acceleration.
This is my KCI build, It's taken 1st at a few FNM, mostly with a heavy Ravager/Rogue(although very good rogue)/Burn metagame. I built it to go off as fast as possible but still have several alternate win conditions.
Mana:
4x Seat of Synod
4x Tree of Tales
4x Ancient Den (Thinking of replacing these with DS Citadel)
4x Vault of Whispers
4x Great Furnace
4x Chrome Mox
4x Talisman of Dominance
4x Pentad Prism
Sorc/Instant:
4x Fabricate
4x Serum Visions
4x Magma Jet
Kill:
3x Fireball
3x Myr Incubator
4x KCI
4x Disciple of the Vault
3x Engineered Explosives (Not really kill, but great for meta)
SB:
4x Naturalize
4x Pyroclasm
4x Mana Leak
3x Sun Droplet
I thought that ambassador would be the right way to go, but I still dont know about sliver queen, doen't using her over ambassador just give your opponent another turn to respond?
