Quote fromSpidey 1 = good. 2 & 3 = ruined #1.
Gotta disagree here. I personally loved Spidey 1 and 2. 3 was just plain garbage though.
Quote fromHorror movies really just don't hit it home anymore like they use to. They're boring now for me unless they encorporate other aspects into it other than the cheap screams. Example would be the movie 23. While I wouldn't consider it much of a horror movie, it was somewhat scarey but interesting at the same time. It wasn't because I wanted to see Jim Carey, I wanted to see what the overall concept was about, the number 23 (although, I didn't see this one in the theaters, I watched the DVD).
Well, Jim Carrey has pretty much run his course in terms of watchability (is that even a word? Cause if it isn't, I call copyright on making it up!:p) I agree with you that horror movies have pretty much been done to death (really, how many ways can you come up with that a: get by censors and b: kills someone? Pretty soon we'll see a horror movie about a serial killer who kills his victims by pissing on them:eyebrow:)
Quote fromSo no, Hollywood has not run out of creativity.
Again, I'll point out that there are serious talks about making movie versions of Monopoly and The Sims. And I have proof here and here
So you tell me, has Hollywood run out of creativity? Monopoly: The Movie + The Sims: The Movie = Hell yes. Now, is that really a bad thing? Eh, depends. As for me, as long as they keep churning out Bond movies and Marvel movies, I'll be happy. At least, as long as the Bond movies aren't like The World is not Enough and the Marvel movies aren't like Fantastic Four (how in the HELL did that get a sequel anyway!?)
Speaking of Donna Noble, could we just get Wif back as a companion? Even though he was in something like only 3 episodes as a companion he was pretty damn cool. And funny. Easily makes my "top companions of new Who" list.
tl;dr -> Joss Whedon wrote women like he always writes women. I can't think of a Whedon production where this DOESN'T happen. The strong women thing I mean.
Screw him.
So been pretty busy. Current show closes this weekend. Next show has rehearsals in about 10 days. I also got offered an internship in San Fran. Only problem is that it doesn't pay and the company doesn't provide housing. And I have very limited funds. On the other hand, it is a high-end theatre that's a lot bigger than anything else I've worked in. Gotta see if I can swing something by the end of the week. Plus my car crash is looming over my head. Sooooo many things going on I can hardly keep 'em straight.
I have. Actually, it's pretty much the only thing on my resume. And I've moved from one theatre to another fairly often so that my resume is now about 2 pages long. Perhaps employers see this moving and get the wrong impression?
I've been told as much by my theatre professor who used to work as a stage manager. Union member too. I've got someone I vaguely know who works in hotels, I'll see what I can do there. This ties in to my friends: most of them have basic entry-level jobs with very little pull. I ask about openings whenever I work a show but obviously nothing comes of it.
I do get paid in community theatre, it's just that it's way too little to get by on. The summer job I signed a contract for is paying $400 to work from May through July. 3 weeknights and weekends for rehearsals, then weekends only for performances. I've also been applying like mad for internship positions at the higher-tier theatres across the country. Ones that pay better and offer food and housing on top of the pay.
Very hard for me to do. Most of my contacts are in cities where the job market seems to be even worse: Chicago, New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, etc. So if I were to go into a city with a better job market it'd be a huge risk: I would know nobody and while I'd have better job prospects, I worry about even more financial responsibilities without a guarantee of income (I know it's never guaranteed, but you get my point).
My degree is a basic theatre degree, but I also minored in political science. For theatres most of my experience is in stage management. I know how to keep everything running smoothly in a theatre production. I've managed quite a few of the more successful shows in town, and even have a couple glowing letters of recommendation for the field. Still, that's about the only experience I have.
And as for completely open availability like Chaotix suggested, there's a weird, well, paradox that occurs there for me. I do keep my schedule as open as possible. The thing is that even getting to the interview stage is rare for me. So I do the theatre thing because even though the pay sucks, there's still pay. And when I do get invited for an interview it's usually during the time in a production where it's almost impossible for me to bow out. The last interview I went on was at a local Olive Garden, and I would have started a week before my production's "hell week". Plus I've since gotten hired on for a summer production.
Herein is my problem: On one hand I do want to have completely open availability. On the other, I don't want to have to wait around for an interview when these stage management "jobs" have started to come easily for me.
E-Books: Hate the things. If I want to read a book I much prefer the feel of actual paper. Though with my hectic schedule I've gotten much more fond of audio books. Just picked up the audio version of Hitch-22. I miss Hitchens. Sure he could be an *******, but he was a very studious and articulate *******.
Dagg's Birthday: Happy (belated) Birthday Daggs! And congrats on the monetary win! Always good to be rewarded for doing something you're good at.
talore/Yukora's dates: Glad to hear you got some dating going well! Wish I could say the same. Prolly mentioned it back a few pages: GF decided to pull the "great guy but..." thing on me just before my newest show opened. Need to find someone who can stay with me for a while lol
So much has happened to me. Bad news: got in a minor accident on Thursday. Good news: car that I hit drove off. Bad news: still got a ticket. Good news: car's damage shouldn't be that bad. Bad news: still struggling with getting a damage estimate from the body shop. Good news: starting work on yet another show. Bad news: said show is up in the mountains. I'd better have my car fixed by then! Also I'm in the same boat as Daggs. Been applying almost nonstop for jobs and still nothing. I'm getting fed up with my inability to find employment. Especially with a car to get fixed up.
Come all the way over to the dark side. We have cookies!
Grew up in a fairly normal and open-minded household. Sure I went to church when I was very small but as I grew up I realized that I just didn't believe in the "invisible man living in the sky" to borrow a phrase from Carlin. The only trouble my atheism got me into was with one of my cousins. Way back when the blogs here on Salvation first sprang into being I started writing weekly about my thoughts on the world. Naturally religion was a big theme. Let it slip that I was sympathetic to atheists in a conversation with the youngest cousin I have in the religious part of my family. Got an earful. Other than that nothing. Mostly the conversations have been making fun of my desire to go into theatre.:p
Speaking of which, director man doesn't know what he's doing. Play takes place in a basement and he's got stage lights at full. There's a part of the play where there's just a video playing for 5 minutes and the characters are doing nothing. Keeps bringing the action to a halt in order to give notes, during tech week. Shrugs off the mispronunciation of Italian words. Mysterious force that enters during climax is represented by a weird video that starts with Darth Maul. I love the guy and he's been a close friend and my best ally in breaking into Denver theatre, but he can't direct to save his life. This show is gonna suck.:ria:
Been doing the same thing. Counted up the theatres I'm applying to: 20 of 'em. I'll be surprised of any of them get back to me though. And as for day jobs I apply to at least 6 a day and I've got bupkes. Don't think you're only imagining it: I too think a lot less jobs are being advertised.
I will survive
I'm still getting used to this diminished responsibilities thing for my current show. All I'm doing is running sound. Never had so little to do. Usually work as SM, and that's A LOT more active. Much more to do as an SM. Hope I can get something more meaty after this show. And as for that phrasing, you're welcome DUX.
We'll see about that Dag! Imma go all on your ass!:cool2:
You did hold off. For about a week.
:sleeping::sleeping::sleeping:
WHA!?
I'm up. I'm up.
Went out with cast last night. Really needed it too. Found out I missed the deadline for applying to The Old Globe out in San Diego. Well missed as in the deadline's the 12th and they want 2 letters of recommendation. I ain't gonna get that by the 12th.:banghead:
So i'm just along for bites on apps. I'm gonna get something. Question is when.:monty:
I tried to pass it off as a moment of...well...ecstasy, but I guess there's a reason I work backstage and am not an actor.:tinyteach: And well I got, what, 9 days till Vamulumtimes Day? I hope there's no dumpage yet, cause I dropped a mint on a great outing for said holiday. Just hope the weather holds out so that my money doesn't go to waste. Please weather?
For the first time in a while I decided not to watch the Superb Owl. Didn't care about either team, so I spent the day doing more productive things, like catching up on Star Trek Online.:grin3: Course I found out later that the Giants won the game. Glad that prick Brady didn't get another ring. Every time I hear his name I just want to punch him.
