Is there a lot of work for that outside of Hollywood? Why would anyone even consider leaving the rockies for chicago? That place is flatter than flat with bad weather and agriculture. My sister moved out there from Denver for work and all she can say is how she misses the mountains.

Well there kinda is. I work with stage productions here. Plus the president of the nation's fight choreographer's union is located here in town, so there's that too. Want to leave Denver for a couple reasons: 1) the theatres here are kinda inclusive. They like to hire crews from within their little cliques and it's hard to bust into the business. Plus Chicago is the home for comedy performances. Second City, Steppenwolf, etc. are all in Chicago. It's a good place to go IMO.

Spent a day in Vegas Gambling. The old Santa Fe Station Casino. Was a standard Texas Hold'em tournament with buy in of $50, which buys 4000 chips. Anybody could buy in during the first hour, and anyone could buy back in once for $20 for 3000 chips for that first hour. Started out with 30 people, but people came and went.

Big blind started out $50 and we went from there. I played super conservatively which signaled my hands more than I cared for. I did push a flush draw after the flop, cause I love those odds, people bet with me and I hit my flush on the river. I should have slow played that and bet on top of anything, but for some reason I just wanted to buy the pot despite having the Ace. So I pushed 3000 chips, scared everyone away, and won a decent pot.

Game went on and soon two people went all in before the flop before me. I had suited K.Q, so I called. I groaned, one had A.K and the other A.J. I hit my queen on the flop and the flush on the river. I wasn't the high stack, but I had showing strong.

Well the game dragged on a few hours and I went from a strong position to limping. Too conservative of a play ment that I didn't win enough hands. Plus at one point I payed 5000 to see a flop just to fold when it didn't go my way. By the time the big blind was 8000 I only had 8000 so an all in wasn't impressive. At this point there were only 4 people left so I tried for it...had an A.3...got called with a 3.4. He hit is 4 on the flop and I limped away, losing to a pair of 4s.

Fourth place was in the prizes so I got $200. Payed my entry fee and my dad (I dragged him to the event to play) so I decided to treat us to the casino's fancy restaurant. It was a steakhouse called the Charcoal room and was fancy. We're talking $40 steaks with $10 sides...much more than my poor winnings could handle. My brother joined us and we each had the biggest, tastiest, most expensive rib eye I've ever eaten in my life. The sides were great too, mashed potatoes and mushrooms and such. good eating with a bill I'm sure would have broken my brain... But my brother happened to be the head chef there, so he comped it for us. Grin

Nice story. I would never expect anyone to play conservatively and get 4th. Usually conservative play is like hanging a huge blinking light with "Call everything I have". I got the opposite problem though. I see what I have and if it's anything to do with a face card I'm very aggressive. Still a n00b at poker :p

CrovaxtheCursed is a fan of the MJ Bulls. I want this guy in the clan (Don't celebrate just yet Crovax... I have no say in the choosing of new members... I'm more like the ghost of the Called, so it's up to the "Real" Members..)

Dammit, and I was all set to start the Dance of Joy.

    Please fill out!

    1)Nipples?

Why yes, I have two. I've heard tell that some people have three, but that's too many for me.

    2)MSN or AIM?

Neither, really. I do have skype though. thanosisking (name taken after I started reading comic heavily. as if you couldn't tell)

    3)Favorite deck?

None really. But that's only cause I cube. Cosmically baby! (see what I did there?:p)

    5)Is this too many questions?

Nah. I think we gotta add more. Like until we have 42.

6)Does your mom think that you're a homosexual because she thinks that you never have intimate relations with women?

    Nope. That's my brother's domain.

    * Why you want to be a member of this particular clan

Because it's been so laid-back for so long. That and just about everybody in this clan is known across the site. And because my old clan is gone.

    * Why you think you'll be a good member of this particular clan

Because I can add A LOT to the discussion. Seriously, I was having to hold back in discussions when I was in the GA cause I didn't want to dominate conversations. I always have something to say.

    * In what ways you will be in contact, (forums, AIM, etc) and how often

I visit the site multiple times a day, and as I said above I have skype that I usually keep open. I'm in contact pretty much all the time I'm awake. It hasn't been too healthy but I've managed.

*Any other information you think we'll want to know

Now I don't want this held against me, but there's a chance that I might communicate a little less over the summer. Got a shot at work in a reperatory theatre on the other side of the state. Rep means points toward AEA membership means I would finally have a career! Not close to official yet but just wanna give heads-up.

    Oh, and

The Greeks folded? I have missed a lot. I loved lurking their threads to discover different opinions about the storyline. It sucks that they're gone.

Yeah, I miss it too. I think it got pretty bad soon after Wizards decided to stop publishing books for every expansion.

Ah Crovax, we go back for a very long time do we not? Though time has faded my memory something awful. Ten years'll do that to a person.

Ah that we do. Though time has done the same to my memory. I guess I could get refreshed by going through the GA archives but...well...I just don't wanna.

All righty. I'm 26, graduated from college with a BA in theatre, and support myself as best I can working as a freelance stage manager and fight director. Which means that I can make violence look VERY cool on stage. I'm trying to build my resume up so that I can afford to move to Chicago (I live in Denver for the time being). I love offbeat movies (The Artist is one that I HAVE to see soon). As for MTG I try to keep up with the news and new cards as much as I can, but since most rehearsals take place at night I don't get a lot of time for tournaments. I get to attend maybe one or two drafts a month. Love football and baseball. Guess what my favorite teams are. If you don't look at my sig or avvy it's +5 points.

San Diego Chargers despite my dad being a religious Broncos fan.

Living in Denver is insufferable. Man I hate Tebow. Not the man per se, but I can't stand all the attention and hype he's getting. The Pats have one of the worst defenses in the league and Tebow couldn't do anything against them. The guy's mediocre at best.

So I've had my clan go poof on me. Kinda sad cause I was one of the few constant posters in there in those last days. Tried to function without a clan but I just can't seem to do it. So I wanna join the Called. Only clan left with more history than the GA. And I'm all about the history Smile

  • posted a message on GF needs help
Hey, you might remember my thread where I was dealing with mixed signals. Well the main reason my GF told me she was feeling the way she was was because of her job situation. It's VERY shaky, to say the least. So I decided to get your opinions on her situation (no worries, she's OK with it!:D). Here's what's going on: in October (just before we met), my GF started a temp job near downtown Denver. This is problem #1, since she lives not too far from DIA. For you non-Denverites, that's about a 45 minute drive at least. Each way. Anywho, she was originally placed on a part-time basis, but was made full-time without her input. Also, she got a split shift: 7AM-Noon, then 3PM-7PM. This is problem #2. With her living so far away from work, a split shift just drains her. Anywho, her initial contract for her temp job is up next week, and she doesn't know what to do. She likes having a steady income, but the two problems above in addition to the mind-numbing phone calls she has to make has her questioning whether or not to stay. I've been telling her to ask if she can be put back on a part-time basis, but so far no headway has been made on that. She did find a job almost 10 minutes from her house, but it would require an 8 week training course, 5 days a week, each day from 3PM-1130PM. And it's in sales, something she's not very keen on. This is the only significant headway she's made thus far with alternate employment.

tl;dr: Girlfriend's temp job that she doesn't much like is up soon and she's worrying about what to do. Should she stay with a job that's a 45 minute drive away and has her on a split shift, or should she go and make job-hunting her full-time job?

Just a quick update: I have talked to her, but she tells me basically the same things that she mentions in her texts: doesn't know how she feels, yet keeps doing these activities with me that makes me think we're in a relationship.

    Quote from Monopoman »
If she has a plethora of other men in her life as what she considers "friends" or whatever then she is definitely the type to test men out and see if any are worth being her boyfriend.

These girls are maddening and far more difficult to acquire based on this.

Anytime a girl seems to spend all her time with male companions or just more guy friends then girl friends its basically the red flag of that type of girl.

    Quote from pandafarmer »
Well said Mono... you've made some very solid points. Esp if the girl is young and cute, there are the types who just love the attention and don't want to give that up.

This girl isn't that kind of person. She's kinda reserved, doesn't have a lot of male friends, and while I find her cute, I don't think a lot of other people would. She is young though.

So I gotta ask this, cause I hate mixed signals. I met a great woman a few months ago, and we've been going out quite often. And doing things that neither one of us would have ever thought of doing if we hadn't met each other. Glass-blowing, dancing classes, hiking (for her), things like that. And we've reached third base with each other. And we text each other every day. She's even taken to calling me "(her) love" and "(her) nerd" in texts. It certainly seems like we're dating. However, every so often she texts me talking about how she doesn't know how she feels and how she doesn't know if she's ready for a relationship. This is where the mixed signals for me comes in. Her actions are almost completely at odds with her words. To be fair, she has a little more on her plate than most with job unhappiness and still living with family and trying to get her foot into her career. Her mixed signals just give me mixed feelings. I'd like to have a clear picture of where we stand with each other, but on the other hand I don't want to lose what a great thing I feel I have. I don't know what to do.

What does everyone think of Orton being cut by the Broncos and being signed by the Chiefs? I was really surprised by this move. Tebow being a scrambling quarterback means he has a very much increased chance of being hurt, and the Donkeys need a competent alternative at QB in that case.

On the other hand, I would have LOVED to see Orton be picked up by the Bears, just to see another screwup by the Donkeys. In that case, the Bears could say they got Cutler for nothing.:p

Well the thing is that with us being the Storyline Clan, once the official storyline becomes nothing more than ancillary to the product there's not much for us to discuss. There's no more books for each expansion, no more grand sweeping stories. Nothing more than comic books. So sadly, I must preemptively say good-bye to the Greek Alliance and to MTGSalvaion. Sure, I'll jump in here during spoiler season and such, but with this clan dead there's no more reason for me to be as active as I once was. Plus my real-life commitments have started to consume my ever-shrinking spare time (which I'm sure is what happened to most of the GA-ers). It was a great run, and we have had a blast getting to know everyone that has come and gone over the years. Sad to see it go, but not even The Called will last forever.

    Hiya guys
are you recruiting? I simply cannot sit idly by and watch my favorite clan die! Anyways, I'm at work now and post something more substantial in couple of hours Wink
    Hope it's not too late...

Edit: and my banner is dead. Haven't been here for a while Grin

We could always use more members, but I don't remember if there's a recruiting freeze or something during a closure. You know, to prevent people from joining just to save a clan and then leave after said clan's back running.

Hello from House Dimir thought I'd drop in and give this thread some posts! Hope all is well with everyone! How are you guys liking Innistrad?? I bought a box and drafted with some friends and had a blast! Pulled a Liliana and traded it 1 for 1 for a Reaper King EDH deck that a guy said he was just bored of playing

I haven't been playing a whole lot of Innistrad, but from what I have seen it's pretty good. What's surprising to me is that for all the hype that the DFCs got I haven't seen many being played (outside of the Waif). Too busy with work and all to be going to tourneys. Haven't had a night off in forever.

Vax - there are jobs available in the US at the moment? Whenever I hear a news story from there (admittedly, probably hyped up beyond belief by one of the news channels) it seems to suggest there are no jobs for anyone anywhere, unless you're a Mexican fruit-picker or something. Best of luck with that.

There are jobs open in the US now, but nothing that I've been able to nail down beyond these shows of mine. I consider myself lucky that I've gotten good enough that I always have a show to work on, but the pay sucks balls. And working 2 shows at once has made me SO busy that I have had to pretty much stop looking for a day job in order to get everything done for these shows.

    Quote from Daggertooth »

It is nice to see activity in here, but it might be too little too late. One full month of inactivity is not something easily overlooked.

There have been three Greek alliance members posting in the last two days. What will it take to get you guys back to six active members?

I honestly doubt we'll get back to 6 members. We've got 2 members modding the Rumor Mill, which takes up A LOT of their free time. Shady hasn't been seen in over, what, a year and a half because of his military job. I don't really have a lot to say other than "I have yet another show". All good things must end. Just like I'm sure that one day The Called will shut down, so will we I believe. I knew the day was coming fast when we stopped participating in the Clan Contests. We ALWAYS used to do that, and did extremely well. It does make me sad.

    Quote from Daggertooth »

Not many can say that (is it 2 or 3 that are left from those days?).

I think that once the end of the month rolls around, The Called will be the only clan left from the MTGNews days. GA is the only other one.

Well, it's been a great run. You've all been a load of fun, and I'll miss you. The GA has been for a long time the only reason I've been coming back to Salvation. I don't see any reason for being here once the GA closes.

I'd have posted but I've been swamped. I'm running one play and rehearsing another. That and trying to find a job and a car is taking up pretty much all of my time right now. Other than that, same old crap.
