Feb 4, 2014Shriez posted a message on Launch Giveaway! My favorite card out of every card in this game would have to be Thundermare. It may not be among the best or the strongest cards, but it was the first card I ever pulled from a booster pack of Portal all the way back in 1998. I still have that same Thundermare to this day.Posted in: Announcements

1 Crackling Doom
1 To The Slaughter
1 Blessed Alliance
1 Lightning Helix
1 Whip of Erebos
2 Nahiri, the Harbinger
I decided before FNM that the 4 Mana Tithe wouldn't be good enough so I swapped them and 1 Scavenging Ooze out for 2 Ajani Unyielding, 1 Last Breath, and 2 Qasali Pridemage
I went 4-0 at FNM, playing against a budget GB Elves, Infect, some kind of GB aggro deck, and Thopter Sword Combo.
4 Horizon Canopy
4 Ghost Quarter
3 Temple Garden
2 Stirring Wildwood
2 Forest
2 Plains
1 Rustic Clachan
4 Leonin Arbiter
3 Scavenging Ooze
3 Voice of Resurgence

3 Renegade Rallier
3 Loxodon Smiter
2 Wilt-Leaf Liege
4 Mana Tithe
2 Dromoka's Command
2 Blasting Station
1 Blessed Alliance
1 Heroic Intervention
Side deck will have the usual suspects of stuff like Rest in Peace, Grafdigger's Cage, Thalia, etc. I tried to fit in the most effective creatures with what I have, still debating whether I want to use Liege or Sigarda or Thrun for the 4/5 mana slot or if I want to use planeswalkers.
Working on making a less creature heavy deck and more on a control aspect. Thinking of cards like Mana Tithe and the Saffi Rallier combo.

1 Wrath of God
1 Engineered Explosives
1 Surgical Extraction
1 Grafdigger's Cage
I ended up going 3-1 in matches due to misplays on my part with Kolaghan's Command and going for the risky Indomitable Creativity play instead of a safer play in one game. I played against Junk (2-0), Puresteel Storm (2-1), Mono Black (2-0), and Scapeshift (0-2). I feel that if I'm going to side in Kambal or Canonist then I'm going to side out Indomitable Creativity. Something that came up that I didn't think of before was how Indomitable Creativity interacted with Grafdigger's Cage, it was ruled that IC would get around Cage because the creature was entering from exile instead of the library.
Puresteel was an interesting matchup, it came down to do I have removal in hand for when Puresteel or Sram showed up on the field. Scapeshift I was always within 1 turn of killing him and he was always down to 5 or less life when he fired off. Highlight of the night was getting to play Creativity on turn 4 for Emrakul. Lowlight of the night was walking into a Cryptic Command before combat and losing because of it.
Concealed Courtyard and Inspiring Vantage made their way into my deck pretty easily. I cut down the number of Blackcleave Cliffs to make room for the other fast lands, running 2 of each feels good. Fatal Push I might try over Terminate or Bolt, depends on what the decks I expect to see at the local meta.

Round 1 (2-0)
RUW Nahiri
Game 1 Nahiri loaded the grave with Lingering Souls while Ajani Vengeant held down the threats until I was able to flying spaghetti monster him. Game 2 he Surgical Extractioned my Lingering Souls and it turned into a race of Nahiri's and my low life against my own Bitterblossom.
Round 2 (2-1)
Merfolk
Game 1 I got mana flooded while he stormed the field with a 8 devotion Master of Waves. Game 2 was a turn 1 Inquisition to take away his Aether Vial from a 1 mana hand and another my life against Bitterblossom after I was forced to Anger the field to stop him from killing me which cost me 5 flyers (hate Islandwalk). Game 3 was him playing a Merfolk and me killing it instantly. Game ended with a race of 2 spirits, 2 Wall of Omens, and a Shambling Vent against his 3 Mutavaults and a Harbinger of the Tides.
Rounds 3 (2-1)
RU Burn (store owner)
Game 1 I kept a hand with 5 land, Butcher, and a Painful Truths. He got all the burn in the world and killed me super fast. Game 2 I was able to slow him down with Kambal until I landed Emrakul through Nahiri. Game 3 was the only game the entire night I saw Mana Clash. I know the card is terrible but I think it's hilarious and on turn 5 I cast it. We both started at 10 life, 9 coin flip rounds later it ended leaving both of us with 3 life left. I had Kambal and spirits on the field so I knew he couldnt kill me with a Bolt or Lava Spike. Got him down to 2 life and was stalled until I drew another Lingering Souls. Highlight of the match was the 9 round Mana Clash and being told afterwards that while the owner has nothing against me personally, he was going to ban Mana Clash from all future Modern tournaments because of the damage potential. I don't really care if he does or doesn't ban Mana Clash, I finally got to play it for more than 2 rounds.
Mana Clash is going to be switched for Timely Reinforcements.

Ajani Vengeant is a placeholder until I can get 2 more Nahiri. I'd like to find room for a Terminate/Dreadbore/Anger of the Gods but I'm not sure what spells to cut for them, though I am leaning towards cutting Liliana as there's only 1 of her. Also dont have Bob so Sin Prodder is my budget replacement.
