    He was obviously White.

I think that he would be White, with a minor red splash - as in, WWR.

This is because, while he embodied all of the negative aspects of white, he also possessed a maniacal fury - a passionate, totally insane hatred - which drove him towards his goals.

    So yeah, WWR.

I would probably be crying real tears if that had happened to my foil sheet, dude.

    That's really unfortunate.

But you have the sympathy of every single person on here, I'm sure.

Can you post a picture of the sheet here?

Also, it really sucks that this happened to you... Sheets are hard to find.

Im confused. This(Religious intolerance)plus your avatar makes me Confused .

I mean... in my view you avatar is definately taking a stab at a certain religious group. But i guessing your thinking that they arent able to understand the joke. I guess its ok to insult people based on religion on a message board is ok but the you draw the line about using a certain word that is no longer used only as a homosexual slur.

I also enjoyed your flame about how anyone that jokes around like this obviously immature and an idiot.

So what are you trying to say? That both religion and homosexuality are fair grounds for discrimination?

AFAIK, practicing your religion as an adult is a choice; being homosexual is not.

From reading the OP's post, the situation seems pretty cut and dried. You went to an unfamiliar FNM, ran into a group of bigots, and unfortunately had an extremely unpleasant experience.

I don't know if there actually is anything you can do about what happened, but I sympathize with you.

Also, one thing stuck out at me:

    Quote from Fade_To_Black
What discrimination? I see no discrimination here. You played against a few dicks(EDIT: Seriously? This is allowed? I figured the censor would pick it up. Ah well). They called names. It's not discrimination.

Is it so hard to believe that the judge wasn't paying attention to your match and, therefore, didn't hear anything?

You seem pretty anxious to prove that OP was simply being "insulted" devoid of any ulterior context or motive. Don't you think the fact that he had to suffer through homophobic slurs is representative of the discrimination he faced? Calling someone names because of their sexuality = discrimination. You don't see people insulting other people for being heterosexual.

I also read another one of your replies where you said that OP was being picked on for running a control deck, and that his sexuality had nothing to do with it.

Really? In that case, why were the insults homophobic? For that matter, even if the people he was playing against were angry at him because of his deck choice, the fact that their chosen insults were homophobic slurs is still discrimination against gays.

So does this mean that "Mirrodin Pure" and/or "New Phyrexia" could be Red Herrings?

It would be totally fun, and doable.

But luckily, there is a workaround.

You see, most of the awesome cards in EDH, while being from older sets, aren't very expensive. Seriously. Most staples are about 50 cents to a buck. With twenty or thirty dollars you can build an extremely respectable EDH deck at your local game store, which is what I would suggest you do.

Another option is picking up Wizards of the Coast product like Duel decks and Premium decks, as these often have a number of core cards that are great for starting an EDH deck. A classic example is the Phyrexia Vs. The Coalition Duel Decks, which cost $20 dollars and include a bunch of great staple EDH cards to provide a solid base for your deck.

Here are some great examples of budget EDH options on youtube:

My opinion on "If a deck plays Sol Ring, can you still claim it's a casual EDH deck?" is yes.

    Two reasons:

    1) It isn't prohibitively expensive - 10 dollars is definitely quite alot for a card, but it is an eternal staple and as a casual player I have definitely spent more money on hard to find or foil cards that aren't nearly as competitive.

    2) It's an enabler, and while most enablers are usually competition-oriented, it isn't anything without something degenerate to enable. Using it for a turn two Indomitable Ancients is fine, for a turn two Smokestack or Braids, Cabal Minion isn't.

we also got a couple Bone Cranks, Dark Rituals, Brainstorms, and one Swords to Plowshares. Also a Dance of the Dead, a card I've never heard of before but is actually pretty awesome.

    Casual EDH events, seriously.

I get it, people like playing 1 on 1 / competitive EDH (It baffles me, but live and let live I say), but is it really such a big deal to put time aside for good old casual EDH with an emphasis on fun rather then prizes/ranking?

Maybe I just go to the wrong store.

If they thought the ruling was too harsh, couldn't they appeal it?
I'm still confused to how calling a judge could ever be wrong...ever.

The kid was obviously too shaken up to appeal it. He might not have known that it was possible to appeal a judge call.

I think it was really unsportsmanlike. You never see or hear about players like Chapin or PV pulling this type of crap. But maybe it's because they're good enough to win (Or at least not lose) on their own skill, rather than on the perceived misdoings of a kid sitting across the table from them.

Quoted because this stands out for me as a really important statement.

You really don't often here about other professionals being called out as acting unsportsmanlike. If you are a pro player you should try and have a professional attitude and demeanor.

That being said, the comments on Matt Nass' recent article on ChannelFireball are downright NASSSTY. :p

If Matt Nass was actually concerned that his opponent could have a marked deck, he should have gotten a Judge's attention when he saw the first foil card being played.

After all, you don't need to have proof to call a judge, just suspicion.

If Matt Nass had been about to steamroll the OP's friend in the third game, do you think he would have called a judge over just before he won to do a deckcheck on him? I don't think so.
