...The biggest complaint I have with these cards though is the fact they eat up uncommon slots. Unless it's a rediculously good 1 drop, I never like seeing 1 drops in my uncommon slots. Well at least they help fill the spoiler up...
I see your point, but they couldn't really make cards with these effects common because they're hosers.
Protection from [a variable color] is typically uncommon or even rare, and hosing a set mechanic (or block mechanic) is also typically uncommon or rare. There are exceptions, of course, but this is usually the case.
The artifact is only uncommon because it's an artifact. As a card, it's pretty crappy.
They fight spirits that manifest in the mortal world, by casting spells. Ogres give them trouble and there are talking rats and rabbits.
I think one female samurai will get past my suspension of disbelieve this once...
Are you trying to say there weren't anthropomorphic rats and rabbits in ancient Japan?
That seems pretty hard to believe.
EDIT - I do admit that it's not historically accurate and doesn't even look Asian, but I like the picture anyway. I think it fits the flavor of the card quite well.
All of these will be powerhouses in limited. I can see them being picked very early because they're tough to permanently eliminate.
Even this 2/5 with Spirit Link can turn the tide of the game by holding off fairly beefy attackers and gaining a little life (preferably while you smack your opponent with fliers).
One thing I like about the card is that it forces just your opponents' creatures to attack, and your can sit pretty on defense a good bit. Like the article said, vigilant creature can work wonders with her....but an old-ish enchantment came to mind very quickly to me(this is for a casual game, mind you)...but a powerstone minefield can wreak some hefty havoc, esepcially if you get more than one into play. Forcing your opponents' critters to walk through that every turn can be pretty painful. Only problem is keeping your own critters alive at that point...(or you could substitute caltrops instead and use walls for defense)...
For a card that won't affect your own creatures (and is in the current Standard environment), Leonin Bladetrap would work. Sure, it's not the most efficient card ever, but it could be interesting in a casual deck with Fumiko.
Wow. These Patrons are really something. Factoring in the Offering mechanic, they're priced very aggressively. Adding in solid P/T and cool abilities, and this is an impressive cycle in my book.
Wow this is randomest crap i have ever read. Ok, if you are trying to build sligh, than you have a TEN MANA CARD in your deck, 4 of them nonetheless...<snip>
He's not trying to cast the myojins. He's using them as a +10/+0 for with the Red Shoal.
A cc10 card you plan to cast doesn't fit in a fast red deck, but a +10/+0 card for does fit into a fast red deck.
I think the general idea is actually pretty sound. I just think it needs some fine-tuning.
I like the patrons... but doesn't it seem kinda food chainish?
Is that a bad thing?
I like it. It is, however, very strong. I think the patrons are most definitely worth playing in limited. This guy is a 7/5 when attacking, and it'll be fairly common to get him down on turn 4 or so. That's pretty impressive.
Who else would use a Magic Online forum?
[There are a few other possibilities, but that's the most likely of the ones I came up with.]

Count me in for this whole puzzle deal.

Thanks, fadeblue!
This was a good game idea and a neat way to track the progress of MTGSalvation. Wow, that's some serious growth.
Congrats, MTGSalvation!

1579 isn't too probable on 9 999-sided dice. This could take a while...
Break Open involves a block mechanic like
Shivan Wurm, a multi-colored card like
Sliver Queen, a token-creator like
Phyrexian Processor, a card that costs life like
Foul Imp, a Creature - Imp like
Chimney Imp
Link Time Elemental to Armadillo Cloak using 6 degrees of separation.
It's GREAT to see it again.
I really missed the card tags.
Great work.
As Kevy stated, it would definitely be interesting to hear more information regarding the history.
As someone very central to that history, your side of the story would definitely be of interest.
Is that a bad thing?

Uncommon again would make the most sense. I just haven't seen confirmation of that yet.
Thanks.
