Generically, Spammers find out your email address by various means (somehow getting e-mail databases, possibly even having your e-mail address sold to them by a 3rd party)

but once they know it is a valid (active) address, They try to get access to it by a variety of means. 1.) sending infected e-mails, containing viruses or other malware to infect your computer (keyloggers work too), or 2.) brute-force hacking your email account.

accounts with weak passwords (like any dictionary word, or a pet name, etc) are fairly easy to brute force. I don't have the statistics on hand to quote, but adding special characters, upper and lower case letters, and non-dictionary words exponentially increases the time it would require to brute force hack your password (statistically speaking)


best way to protect your e-mail account: don't read any fishy or suspicious looking e-mails, especially if you weren't expecting the email (and make sure the email is who it really says it's from, not an alias), and secondly, make a strong password.

Well someone good enough with Microsoft Office macros would be sufficient in making this sort of request. How much you'd be expected to pay would depend on the competency of said programmer, and how long they'd take.

And just for my inner IT cred, i'm gonna take a shot at this. I wouldn't hold your breath as to how this will go (confidence is key!). If i manage to get it working, we'll talk payment later

Also, i may post back asking more questions about various things i encounter.

It very well could be the router or some networking settings. Speaking both as someone who used to have a closed NAT settings on his 360, and an AAS holder in Network Administration (Is it sad this is the first time i've quoted that? :uhh:)

Since you can't set up a DMZ, your going to have to convince him to let you either restart said router (less likely to fix it, but worth a shot) or let him have someone set up port forwarding.
