In my opinion, you can either love it or hate it. My friends and I usually buy a draft box and one of them picks them up very early. At best, it at least 2 for 1's and at worst, it's a black pacifism on a fattie. I personally would rather play bone splinters or drag down over it, but the power level significantly increases in grixis or jund colors. Esper, maybe, but they're removal often is bounce or RFG effects.
I have an Opalescence in play along with an AEther Vial with three counters. My opponent plays Banefire, X>5, targeting me. Is it legal to respond by tapping my vial and play Solitary Confinement in order to make the target, me, illegal, thus countering Banefire upon resolution? Also, would Solitary Confinement affect Elspeth, or any other planeswalker?
Um Tortoise Formation is mainly used defensively against target spells. It would be like asking to break Countespell or something. Not a very good combo card.
And that would be the joke. It'll be a terrible deck and combo, but the card is just so situational, costly, and dumb that WotC must've had a reason to print it. ;P
Well, I appreciate the lukewarm welcome. Yes, it has been a very long while. A couple of my close friends re-introduced me to the addiction again since finances and an overall poor streak of limited events caused me to leave the game shortly after Time Spiral.
I'm heading to the prerelease this weekend in Niles, IL. Definitely going to rock the 2HG sealed and play in a few flights.
My group of friends have a running joke on how to break the lulz-worthy and terrible card, turtle pile. Hopefully keeping it SoA Block, Standard or Extended legal. Problem is, I've been out if it for some time so I'll need some help.
