I like the new Nissa. Other than that.... I feel like this set is Kamigawa level of boring. Kamigawa made me take a hiatus and miss the whole Ravnica block :(. Weak on flavor, I don't understand what the set is trying to accomplish mechanically other than waste time. Like I get the mechanics, I just don't see the reason to take time out of my day to play those mechanics. Look at the gods... they just seem like a lot of work to get gods that don't even compare to theros gods... and there's no death themed Anubis. 1/10 because of nissa and a potential new bolas card at some point.

Sigh, Aethurflux Reservoir proves that wotc still have hard times designing cards with commander in mind. First the 13-life tree, now this.

Not at all. They just don't care. Unless it's in a commander product, they balance their stuff around 60 card magic where the life total is fine. That said... the card is really dumb with Sydri. At 51 life, you will win the game 98% of the time.

This set is really starting to feel busted for artifact based commanders.

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds just made my experiment kraj deck that much more terrifying. This is a decent attempt at fixing rofellos (which is banned). Now all we need is a 4 mana non-legendary braids.

Any planeswalker that can blink creatures, protect itself, and draw cards in some way should never be discounted. Like others have said, she can protect herself the turn she comes into play. She can even blink a creature out setting up a complete board wipe. She only needs an initial investment and can be very hard to remove. Just imagine her and sun titan... value town.

I'm just curious if a Democratic controlled senate can block Trump's potential SCJ nominee for four years. Turnabout is fair play and all.

They could if they want to lose any moral highground they had. With the current Gridlock in both houses being caused by Republican obstructionism the Democrats can point at their Republican Counterparts and quite loudly announce that the Republicans aren't interested in the proper running of the country and are just in it for the money and prestige. They lose that if they then start playing from the same play book.

The only time they should veto any Supreme court nomination is if the nominee is not qualified to do it regardless of the positions they hold on the issues.

That's cute. Ask the base of each major party. They're perfectly fine with not compromising and waiting until the next election cycle since they view the opposing party as the left hand of Satan.

    global warming is a lie
The global average temperature of almost every month is higher every year than the previous one, and the ten warmest years in the global average are all within the last few years.
We're sitting on 404ppm atmospheric Carbon Dioxide, up from an average 370 a few years back. That's interacting with sea water and making the oceans more acidic, causing issues with carbonate production and hurting sealife.
The ranges of various disease-carrying and famine causing species are changing due to the heat and humidity. Added to the increased incidence of droughts, you can see these climate effects in the behavior of refugees: people are abandoning their families homes in part because they literally can't grow enough food.
While I mention refugees I should point out that the average sea level is increasing to a degree that people are abandoning low Pacific Islands because their aquifers are filling with salt water and/or the ground floor of their houses are under the high tide line.

I live in a Pacific Island nation (NZ) so maybe I'm biased but I feel like if you were paying literally any attention at all to the state of the world, you'd know global warming was happening because you'd be able to see the effects. This is what I meant when I mentioned "a biosphere needing management".

I'm not gonna copypaste in all my sources, but here's a reasonably good/depressing discussion of the state of things. [link]

That doesn't matter. You'll find that in the American political system, one's belief's are fact, but not all facts are accepted. For example, violent crime is at a historic low, but most Americans believe it is at an all time high. The constitution was written by the framers, yet you will find a significant portion of the population (that votes and impact policy) that truly believe Jesus descended from the heavens in a silvery chariot and presented the constitution to the American people. A large portion of Americans believe that the United States is a Christian nation.... yet their constitution (which they love so much) specifically states that church and state must be separate. Just look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNdkrtfZP8I. Facts don't matter. Scientific facts not only do not matter in discourse, but the population is not equipped to understand what you're saying. It's like a human having a conversation with a gecko. You're the human, capable of thinking. The global warming denier is the gecko and just acts on reptilian instinct. Whenever someone like MTGTCG hears catch tags like "global warming" their mind is no longer receptive to facts as their belief supersedes whatever you say.

I think it's the single greatest barrier to the progress of humanity. Every Libertarian I've come across wants the freedom to be a lazy pot smoking lump while benefiting from the system they blame for all their problems. It's simple a reflex to the eventual unification of world governments. The movement will either fall in line, be allowed to exist in a small minority with little to no impact, or removed from existence.

Illusionist's Bracers and fabricate. Throw in trade routes. That should make your commander more potent and much more dangerous. Throw in Phyrexian metamorph, sculpting steel, and masterwork of ingenuity and you can theoretically return a land and pump out a lot of tokens. If you pitch those lands to something like compulsion or trade routes, you can abuse crucible of worlds as well. Terrain generator works too.

Also, for those accusing Trump of treason: https://www.facebook.com/WesternJournalism/videos/749464548490167/
It is always hilarious how far people will bend over backwards to defend Trump. This is yet another example of Trump being seriously irresponsible with his words and the republicans refuse to see anything wrong with it. and in some cases praise him for his recklessness.
If they were personal emails that were deleted all along, as Hillary claimed, why would Trump's statement about Russia discovering them matter, or be considered treason?
Hmm I don't know maybe because he is asking another country to commit espionage against us. What is unclear about that? Regardless of the actual content of the emails he seems to believe they had classified data on them yet he is asking another country to uncover it. Somehow Trump supporters don't see this as incredibly reckless.
Except it was Clinton's personal email, not a US government server. That's what made it nonsecure. And the content, according to Clinton, was personal, non-government matters. So in reality, he's sarcastically suggesting Russia learn of Clinton's yoga schedule.

Until of course her campaign essentially confirmed that wasn't the content in them after all.

That's fine as a private citizen. He's now running for the highest office in the country. Sarcasm is subjective in terms of understanding. Adding language barriers to that is just irresponsible. To even suggest sarcastically for a foreign power to interfere in our domestic affairs borders on lunacy or sheer incompetence. Words have consequences. They're specific in use and have serious ramifications. To add more of a mess... if a candidate is always being sarcastic... how can anyone take what he says seriously? Hypothetically, if Trump said "we're gonna nuke em all" is he serious or joking? Based off his history in this election so far, no one knows. I consider that to be a big problem when plenty of nuclear powers in the world have a first strike nuclear policy....

There's also the fact that in the US at least the major group waging a war on women and people who aren't straight and/or cis is the Republican Party, so it's not like people don't have a good reason for getting mad about them.

If you're going to equate the treatment of women in the US to treatment of women in muslim countries - FML, do you just pull this crap straight out of your ass? The "war on women" is a statistically disprovable talking point on the left, and fighting against serving cakes to gays in a private business is multiple orders of magnitude less than throwing them off buildings for existing. There is absolutely no equivalence in how we treat any of these groups and how, say, the saudis do..

How does this response counteract the point Hackworth was making? He didn't claim they were equivalent.

Most of the pro-human rights laws on the books today throughout the world are the result of secular thought, rather than one religion over another. The people drafting those laws can certainly be religious people, but when for example the US has a culture of separation between religion and law, it becomes much more difficult for religious ideas to influence our lawmaking. And make no mistake, the Q'ran is not the only religious book which advocates doing horrible things to other people. The Bible and the Talmud are both full of atrocities by today's moral standards. The issue in areas which follow Sharia law, for example, isn't that they're using Muslim ideologies over Christian or Jewish faiths, but that the ancient religion is influencing the law at all.

I mean, if the Founding Fathers were fundamentalist Christians instead of largely being Deists, and if they avoided separating church and state, the US would probably look a lot more like one of those Sharia law countries.

I agree. I'm not advocating that the US become a nation ruled by the bible - only that western religion has had the largest impact on our culture and formation of our government of any force or movement out there. I LIKE our mostly secular government and I don't want religion to rule.

The problem is that muslims clearly disagree with our system

The problem is that specific Muslims and specific Christians and specific Buddhists and specific....
Muslims are by far not the only group that threatens core US values. They are merely a group that gets a lot of attention.
Did you know there are American citizens who have made public statements threatening a civil war?

And sure, the bible has also advocated some *****ty things - but where in the civilized world do christians still practice stoning?

Where in the civilized world do Muslims still practice stoning?
If some of these countries in these middle east count as civilized, then Africa is your example. Did you know that many countries in Africa have violent religious conflicts perpetrated by Christians? And you know what, in many of those cases, guess where that came from? It starts with A and ends with merica.

The demonstrable fact is that mass, unregulated importation of muslims into the western world has caused nothing but hell,

I've yet to hear anyone advocate unregulated importation as the solution going forward.
    -

What should be done is implement immigration regulation that addresses the actual problems and not broad brushes methods. Yes, Muslims are one of the groups most likely to present a terror threat generally, but how well does that apply to the kind of migration we are talking here, and what about the fact that Muslims are definitely and distinctly one of the groups most likely to present genuine refugees for the same reasons? Even as a temporary solution, it is a bad idea because it could well do more harm than good and there are other ways of regulating immigration.
I understand there is consequences for letting in refugees, I don't think the situation in Europe is good, but in no way means that simply doing the opposite is any better. There are consequences for keeping them out.
But I don't see much talk of the rate of Muslim refugees suffering consequences because of restrictions on immigration. I see plenty of talk on how it has consequences to the people from the countries talking about it though. I wonder why that would be.

That's all fine and dandy, but your average person/citizen/voter doesn't have the stamina, desire, or interest in implementing a sound strategy or screening process. It's not a question about morality or legality. It's the fact that a sizable portion of the population is totally ok with deporting a certain group of people. You're talking about an electorate that ranks #1 is self confidence and dead last in math, science, reading, and overall lucidity. It happened with the Japanese and there is absolutely nothing to prevent that from happening again. And don't say the constitution forbids x.... it's just a piece of paper most politicians and citizens have never read, therefore it's impact is minimal.

So Mana Crypt is about to suddenly see more copies in circulation. That might provide enough data to make a meaningful call on whether or not it is too good.

All this means is a million EDH games worldwide that could have been fun will be ruined by mana crypt -> more ramp -> lol i'm so far ahead gg while the RC continues to do nothing Facepalm

If it becomes popular enough, a lot of the "niche" control cards we're so loathe to run might no longer become niche but make in roads into the meta. That would mean a movement away from NWO ETB: the gathering some of us have been lamenting, since those cards are often too bulky to compete with this. In their stead we might welcome some of the cheaper hate and stax options to more readily shut down artifact ramp. One-drop-hate becomes good again.

Also, you'll usually hold on to Mana Crypt until the turn you plan to do something big with it, kind of like a ritual. So it's more, ramp -> suddenly mana crypt -> 'Lolzilek.' It's free so unless you need the acceleration immediately there's no reason to risk taking three damage a turn.

1: There is no answer that is actually efficient to deal with mana crypt. It's +2 mana and a 1 for 1 card trade if you answer it with a single target removal.
2: You don't tend to hold back mana crypt. You cast it the turn you can make use of the mana, which is usually the first turn.

Hopefully this mana crypt reprint will make people see sol ring/mana crypt for the cancer that they are and finally have them get the axe.

At this point I feel like sol ring will never leave because it's a flag ship card of the format. "edh is fun! you can run sol ring!!!" I hear that a lot.
