For a twentieth anniversary, I was expecting a product that I could actually get my hands on. I've been playing the game since the beginning, and slowly traded for all the power/duels/ect, however I'm far from being rich. It's commander's arsenal all over again, a product with massive demand and a small amount of players able to actually get their hands on it.
Perhaps in another 7 years when Modern is significantly different they'll reintroduce Extended.
The last time I played it was at GP Philadelphia like 5 years ago. Actually, for some reason there were a few local places that ran PTQ's and GPT's in Extended and it really bothered me.
GoST turn 3
Turn 4 attack pay 2 manas and get 2 4/4 angel tokens
turn 5 attack for more 10 usually GG
That's pretty rough. Throw in Oblivion Ring, Detention Sphere, splash green for Thragtusk, Acidic Slime and Progenitu Entity (card name is escaping me because it's past 3am) and you'll have a sweet bant deck chock full of abilities. Oh yes, Restoration Angel too. Yes, I know what deck I'll be playing this summer
I really hope it's a random card, non-redeemable of course. If the item can be traded in Magic Online this will be a very nifty way to build up a collection.
I've never been in the top 8 of a GP or been on the Pro Tour but make a comfortable living largely from Magic. $5 entry fees at local stores where the prizes are a box, lots of trading/selling the winnings on eBay, and of course articles make this all happen. The thing is, you have to treat it like a real job. That means several box tournaments a week, and writing your ass off.
I've written for several sites, and pay ranges enormously. I prefer performance based over up-fronts. Why cap your pay when the sky is the limit? Highest paid article was a little over $1,000, however that was an anomaly. I write several short articles a day that average about $35/hr. Compare that to some of the more meticulous several thousand word articles by pros for $300-$500. It's certainly not as glamorous as it sounds, and the pay rate drops off the map when you're playing instead of writing, but I do this because I love it.
Just traded for 2 Bloodbraid Elf at the prerelease...Luckily they weren't that expensive, but I was really looking forward to playing Jund this next week.
I don't understand why this card isn't getting very much love. Between this and fiend hunter you don't have to run many removal spells. Every card can be a threat!
If I have Wolfir Silverhear in play unbonded and then play Prime Speaker of Zegana, bonding it with Wolfir Silverheart, will the Prime Speaker get 4 or 8 counters? A 13/13 on turn four thanks to a Farseek is pretty sick.
Just received one this afternoon. It's 1,000 times better looking in person. The silhouette around the character is foil, as is the pie pan. The red foil used for Happy Holidays 2012 really pops out.
You can just barely see it because it's the same silver that's used as the border, but the collector's number is HH 2012.
Haha! I just figured out what Wizards is doing here.
Recall they only recently decided to start putting new cards in the "Core Set" so it stops being a regularly published all-reprint set. They pushed up sales of that item by adding new stuff and changing its focus to be "Flavortown for N00bs."
Now, they've decided to make a new, all-reprint set (what the Core sets used to be!) only it's marketed as "Modern Masters." Assuming you're right, and they plan to do more releases as Modern II, III, etc, what has been accomplished?
That's right: they've bamboozled us into buying what is functionally a Core set as if it was a highly special collectible thing.
Masterful, Wizards.
Except now there are two core sets: One for Standard, One for Commander/Modern/Legacy
(nod). It's my main fear with this. That they'll make about half the rares good, and the rest mostly garbage.
Come on now, they've got to leave room to have Modern Masters II, III, IV, and V.
The article even said they'd do another if this one proved successful.
Actually, another interesting thing is that it could be an amazing set with no duds and that the same time next year they re-release it again (card for card). Everyone going crazy about the limited print run has to remember there's nothing stopping them from doing this on a regular basis.
If there's an Instant card in my graveyard with Overload (You may cast this spell for its overload cost. If you do, change its text by replacing all instances of target with each), and I play Snapcaster Mage can I play the card with it's overload cost?

So many broken things to do in older formats too!

Straight into my Kaalia of the Vast deck!

The Holiday Gift Box
Am really digging the keyrunes. Love how they provide both mana fixing/acceleration and are also relevant once you've played your hand.
