  • posted a message on B/W tokens 2 drop?
So with the spoiling of Sorrin everyone and their mother is speculating about B/W tokens, and i have to admit, i really do love the idea of this deck

I am a bit stuck on the 2 drop the deck will play though. Tokens as a general archetype seems to play aggro when against control, and control when against aggro. The fact that it plays the aggro roll at all means the deck needs at least 1 good 2 drop. So far all i can come up with is Grand Abolisher and MAYBE Accorder Paladin beyond the obvious Intangible Virtue. Anyone have any ideas. Porcelain Legionnaire possibly?

Also, is anyone else excited about the prospect of playing grave titan in a deck that can really take advantage of the tokens?

That aside, I think his taxation idea is interesting, but could definitely use a bit of work, though I agree a more balanced approach between different taxation methods would likely help while also lowering tax rates.

FULL DISCLOSURE - I am fairly liberal and do support Obama, i dont think hes perfect by any means (i was wholly against our little Libyan excursion), but politics is about minimizing the ****, and I believe he's the least-worst candidate

His plan sounds nice, but seriously it is a disaster. I am a political science major and so i am well versed in the amount of bull**** spewed by every candidate ever, and with that in mind i really try to do my due diligence to research politicians "plans" as objectively as possible. I have never seen something as ill conceived as 9-9-9. first off adding a 9% sales tax on everything will be REALLY unpopular. The average person generally dosent really understand/care about politics, but they sure get only being able to buy 90% of what they used to be able to. Looking on a larger scale this tax plan in its current form is going to raise taxes on 84% of people while DRASTICALLY cutting taxes for the remaining 14%. Fairness wonderful and all, but lets look at this pragmatically, does it really make sense to lower taxes on the rich and raise taxes on the poor? I know im being overdramatic here, but when i think about this i just imagine a lord in feudal europe riding up to his serfs as they are faming and telling them he wil have to take a bigger portion of the crop this year.

Also the 9% business tax that is supposed to replace the payroll tax. This tax will apply to all revenue not spent on investments. So what does a company do with revenue it dosent put back into itself? It pays out to its employees! This is a payroll tax in a roundabout way. Not that that is a bad thing necessarily, but i find it funny people are saying this is a sensible alternative to the ridiculous payroll tax

as an aside, no one likes paying taxes, it isn't a pleasant experience, but its also important to remember that we are paying historically low taxes right now for whatever that it worth

im pretty sure for me the turning point was when i truly understood the concept of card advantage. I dont just mean someone explained it and i nodded my head, but when i started to think in terms of CA, and truly grasp how it impacted the game.

Im curious what other people have to say abut this, its actually quite an interesting idea (the glass ceiling of skill) that i had never really thought of

p.s. also when i stopped putting BoP/lanawar elves in every deck with green as an auto 4 of

  • posted a message on baneslayers for bayous?
i have no idea where to post this, but i figure the general forum should be the catch-all forum, right?

well anyway im trying to get back into standard after leaving around the end of mirrodin. I have quite a few older cards from casual decks that i made a long time ago as well as some that i inherited from an uncle, to include a few dual lands. Among them i have 5 bayous in decent condition ( as well as a few other duals) and i have been approached by someone who wants to trade me 4 of them for 2 gideons and 2 baneslayers. Im pretty set on the gideons as that seems like a pretty fair trade, and i dont plan on playing legacy any time soon. But now that baneslayer is being reprinted im not sure that it would make good financial sense to trade them. So i ask you great financial luminaries of MTGSalvation.

TL;DR should i trade 4 bayous for 2 gideons and 2 baneslayers or any combination therof

While i know that its always preferable to our reanimation targets have protection, what are everyones thoughts on Pathrazer of Ulamog as a reanimation target. I mean if you can get him out and attacking even turn 3 a semi unbloackable 9 dmg to the face and saccing 3 perms hurts. even if he gets remved thats a lot of damage caused

but all the same a lack of shroud or anything really does hurt it quite a bit i know

Well im very new to the whole legacy format, and me and my playtesting group have jsut fully proxied up a few legacy decks to try and get a feel for the format, and dreadstill has quickly become my favorite deck. Unfortunately though the very standard mono white stax deck has been giving me huge issues. It dosent seem to matter what he pulls, every card hurts me and it seems once my counter-wall runs out, im practically defenseless against the lockdown. I should also add that we have done no sideboarding, but i was thinking of adding tyrogen predator for an extra beater as well as some artifact hate (another huge part of the meta we've created is affinity as well), is that getting to close to threshhold? Any advice would be appriciated

as a reanimator player in legacy a agree that you cant really overvalue shroud, and also emperial archangel has the pariah effect that could be devestating to early game aggro if it comes out fast enough

all that said im not convinced that their are enough reanimation cards, or pseudo-reanimation spells (ala summoning trap) to really make this a reliable archetype. I know from experience that reanimators are explosive nad powerful, thats not hte problem, its the consistency

What do you guys think about elemental appeal as a 1 of or 2 of in these decks, as it would combo well with both the assention and chandra. The only issue with it of course is the RRRR casting cost, but that is not an issue with chandra, and with an active assention id hope one would have enough draw power to have that much red

I might be entirely wrong, but htis might be the kill condition this deck needs
