The first thing this card made me think of was immortal servitude for 3. I haven't bothered to look for the enablers and best assortment of 3 cost dudes to swing for lethal but if they exist that would be pretty neat.

I don't get anyone who loves the Canadian band The Tragically Hip. I mean, sure they're Canadian and a lot of Canadians like to support Canadian music...

Did not realize they were Canadian. I already liked their music and now I like them more Smile

I love how you cardtagged that. With any luck, one day we will be able to click there and have a real card pop up.

My LGS is offering free product to anyone who will bring in an empty booster box they bought from this other guy in town who may have been selling people booster boxes... There is clearly some negative feelings toward each other between these two people and I'm wondering what kind of trouble I could possibly get someone into while scoring myself some free cards. Does anyone know what might be going on here?

Also would it be wrong of me to give the LGS an empty booster box that I bought from ebay and say I got it from the other dude?

  • posted a message on Rules change for double-faced cards in a draft
As someone who drafts with terrible players who think hatedrafting is an important, even crucial part, of your 2nd-42nd picks (14 cards to a pack right? We don't draft the non-foil basic land; pull them out like tokens), I will be taking advantage of this situation and picking a double-faced card 1st every time it isn't competing with a face-stomping bomb as I know it will cause every one of my opponents to significantly weaken their decks. I welcome this opportunity to finally get it through some thick skulls that hate-drafting really isn't a good strategy most of the time.

My only complaint is why couldnt they make the DFC's flip cards(like in kamigawa)

Wouldn't have allowed me to teach people not to hate-draft as effectively... In all seriousness though, I would have stronly preferred they do just that.

Everytime I see a land that can potentially do enough damage to win me the game I think, "I want to play draw-go with this as my sole win-con". That doesn't make me a dick or anything does it?

  • posted a message on What is "normal"
Normal is pretty much how much like me you are.
More like me is more normal. Less like me is less normal. I could try to see things from other people's point of view and acknowledge that other people's situations require a different code of normalcy but I generally don't so I won't pretend that's the case.

I'm glad you guys are all so abnormal or the debate thread would be very boring for me.

Why is hypocrisy worse than racism? I mean, isn't it better if someone at least acknowledges that racism is wrong, even if they themselves harbor such views? I'd rather have that than an unapologetic racist.

Defining racism as "the belief that there are inherent differences in people's traits and capacities that are entirely due to their race, however defined, and that, as a consequence, racial discrimination (i.e. different treatment of those people, both socially and legally) is justified" (taken from wikipedia), I don't feel that racism in itself is wrong.

For example, in my area, were I to be given the choice between walking down an alley where several people of first nation's descent are hanging out and walking down the alley next to it with the same number of people of east indian descent hanging out in it, I feel I would be justified in using my knowledge of the different traits inherent (locally, at least) to those "races" to decide which alley I prefer. One of those alleys I would never enter without an entourage and that has without doubt saved me wallets and beatings.

Racism certainly hits a point where it starts being wrong, but frankly in my area saying that you hate a certain type of people is entirely reasonable and justified. I know I hate them. I just admit i'm racist and that these things need to be kept in check. Racism can certainly get to a point where it becomes wrong, but racism is real and justifiable and an inevitable biproduct of race.

So, yes, to me it is far more important that we recognize when we are being racist and realize how far that can be taken when we are having racist conversations. I am absolutely ok with you hating black people or white people. I am sure you have good reasons. I'm not okay with you telling me it's not racist until we start committing hate crimes.

I guess what this adds up to is that I am on-board with your idea that it is better to acknowledge that it is wrong even if you feel that way yourself. I just don't want to hear people say that they are not racist when they clearly are to avoid admitting that they are wrong themselves. Not holding yourself accountable for your racism seems dangerous.

I'm pretty noob but i've been rushing warmog's into atma's with garen and then from there what I've been buying depends on my role and the other team. I'm only something like level 24-26 and am not playing ranked yet so I'm sure there is a good reason nobody else does this. I've found that regrowth pendant + his passive gives me a lot of staying power in lane early game. I've tried building him more ad-centric but I find I'm not doing as well that way. I'm probably getting a lot more fed than I should be though... I guess what I'm asking is can someone please explain to me why this isn't a good way to build Garen?

Ok, I think we've had enough deriding players who regularly participate in tournaments. Since when is being an active well performing player a sin to which we need label "grinding"? Are we actually concerned people will be faking participation at 18 tournaments a week and dropping without playing a game? Do you actually think that it is going to be so easy to dupe the system?

It's as if some people think that only the occasionally participating Pro level player is a "real" contestant worthy of entry. All those dedicated regulars are just riff-raff or something, wholly unworthy of participation despite their level of dedication.

I don't consider "grinder" a derogatory term. I respect the grinders and am happy for them. This is good for them. I don't see the grinders as unworthy at all. They are among the most worthy. What I don't respect is the casual players who are saying that this is so great because... why? You get to brag to your buddies about how much magic you've played? The system in place for qualification to competitive events should not, even needs to not, be catered to casual players braggin rights. Give them their stupid warped foil promos.

What I'm not happy about is how this adversely affects the highly skilled players who do not have the time or money to travel to all kinds of events or are not located somewhere that makes this possible/feasible. This demographic is much larger than is being given credit because WotC, of course, measures their size by how much money they give WotC not by how many people they actually are.

    1. I'm not racist, I just don't like black people (if you wish, you can fill in another race here). I don't let it affect how I interact with them or make decisions regarding them.

    2. I hate black people.

    3. I think women should be subordinate to men.

    4. I'm not homophobic, I have gay friends, I just don't think gay people should be able to get married.

    5. I'm not homophobic, I just don't like gay people. I don't let it affect my vote on things like gay marriage, though.

    6. I think gay romantic love is not a real thing. I think they're all just looking for sex. I'm not homophobic, though.

    7. I believe all people should be converted to my religion (he/she is of your religion. Atheist/agnostic is also considered a 'religion' here).

    8. I believe all people should be converted to my religion (he/she is not of your religion. Atheist/agnostic is also considered a 'religion' here).

1 - This irks me. Just admit you're racist.
    2 - That's fine. At least you're not pretending you're not racist.
3 - That's an odd thing to say... in what way specifically? just in general? why?
4 - Ok, I don't care about your stance on gay marriage. I'm straight and married. How did this come up?
    5 - see 4
6 - That's oddly specific. I think you are probably a closet homosexual. I'm not sure how else you would believe this so determinedly to be trying to convince me of it. If you simply have talked to a ton of homosexuals or are some kind of expert on the subject than you are talking over my head and I will just take your word for it I guess (most likely with a grain of salt)
    7 - Ya, me too.
8 - Ya, me too except about my "religion".

So none of these alone are going to make me cut off contact with someone. I'm likely to respect someone less for 1 & 8 and maybe 7 because that sounds pretty stupid if you aren't backing it up. I'll cut off contact for 1 & 8 if they are persistant. I cannot stand "I am not racist/sexist but [racist/sexist remark]". Just admit that you are racist and sexist to some degree like everyone else. Regarding 8, if you are actually going to persistently try to convince me to convert to your religion then I'll be cutting off contact.
