People are thinking too much along the lines of already existing decks when thinking about this card.

    Lich
    +
    Heartless
    +
    Priest of Urabrask
    =
    Infinite mana

And with infinite mana, you can do a whole ton of things...
    Perilous Myr
    Devil's play
    BSZ
    etc...

    And there's lots of search:
    Faithless looting
    Ponder
    Forbidden Alchemy
Jar of eyeballs (Perilous myr dying a ton might make this cool)

    And Some disruption/Protection:

    Spellskite
    Mana Leak

And with all that, I see a real deck brewing.

    Godhand:
T1: Faithless looting (dig to find pieces)- Discard devil's play or perilous myr
    T2: Heartless Summoning
T3: Prist of urabrask (RRR in pool) Tap 2 lands for UB- Play Lich, then keep playing priest of urabrask, getting infinite mana. Devil's play for a million.

This is a jonny card that demands to be built around, not a win-more card, or a card to recur things like titans. So think of it like that, and you might see things differently.

... bringing the stuff to your side still counts as a 3-for-1. Mind Control, for example, is a 1-for-1. his thing is essentially a weird form of Mind Control.

Incorrect. Mind control is 2 for 1.

1 for 1 is removal. 1 card to get rid of 1 card. Mind control removes them... and gives you a creature. So a 2for 1

Sorin's ult has the ability to not be a 3 for 1, but rather a 6 for 0 (assuming you can have him not die) or 6 for .5 (He still produced at least 3 tokens to get to this point).

Why do they keep making dragons in a Gothic Horror set?

    Annoying...

This guy isnt even that good, either. No reason to play him over inferno, or even balefire for that matter. Jank mythic.

Sorin is an obvious house, but Secrets is NUTS too! BV just became a VERY real deck.

Just something to note: This isnt actually mana accelleration.

It's restriction is SUPER restrictive, and would actually hurt any burning vengeance deck it was put in: It makes less room for the flashback cards the deck needs.

    Moving along...

  • posted a message on PTQ this coming weekend, which deck should I play?
    100% personal opinion:

3 best decks in the format:

Control - Martyr Proc (non token version)

Combo - UR Pyromancer's Ascension Storm

    Aggro/Midrange - Jund

And for more dedicated aggro, I also like Tezzeret Affinity.

    In that order, as well.

Other decks don't much come close IMHO. I could give a long explaination for each, but I think that would do it. I highly suggest having Flashfires in your deck if you hope to beat Martyr while playing any kinda aggro deck with red in it... and even then, the chances aren't great.

Dull previews. Tokens are nice and all and may find constructed use, but still dull nonetheless.

Anyone that thinks the artifact will be good in BV have never run the deck, apparently.

Wow...that was such a bad idea. You had to know that know-it-all armchair players were going to rub your face in every mistake you made, large and small. It makes them feel superior to belittle you, as if they play perfectly.

I personally love when people tell me what mistakes I made in games. People that don't won't grow. If you honestly think that you play perfectly, you're either stupid or ignorant. Having people tell you what you did wrong makes you learn and hopefully become a better magic player, and person in general (critical analysis of situations is important in life).

What reason people have for shedding light on play mistakes is their business and frankly irrelevant.

Against the enchantment deck, I would have lost. But in real life, I know to not fetch with Ranger or Squad Hawk so that we can both go inifinite, but he decks himself. I would have lost by 1 card, so next time I will just keep as many cards in my deck as possible. Considering I only need 1 proclamation and 1 Martyr to win that matchup, I'm fine with that.

I honestly have no idea how we are supposed to be Melira Pod. I can hope everything goes like game 2, where I disrupted him enough to aggro him out. Aven Mindsensor shuts down Pod AND Chord of Calling. Considering their only way to kill it is with a 1 of shriekmaw, Necrataal, and Redcap, we should win. Also, Torpor Orb shuts down all three of these removal spells. So sure, he can get a pridemage, kill orb, then kill mindsensor, but we are talking about a total of 5 cards in their deck at this point.

You beat both of these decks by running my list Wink

Sounds like boasting, and it is, but also true. Hide/seek and mistveil makes these MUs pretty simple. Sure, grindy as heck and they will likely end in them decking or by time, but you still ultimately win easily.

Still not 100% on the runed halo over ghostly prison call, though. Both have merit.

I beat him round 1 of that tournament yesterday in the Martyr mirror match. He had 2 cards in his deck and 0 permanents in play but when time was called he had more life. Didn't really know ML was using the sudden death rule but I'm sure if I wanted I could have sac'd 5 martyrs a turn with my 3 emeria double proc for a few turns to win. My mistake for not knowing the rules, but your Martyr deck is nothing special, and has nothing for the mirror match at all. Here's the deck I crushed him easily with. Especially bad-mannered of you since you drew extra cards in the match and couldn't undo the draw, and I let you go on the honor system.

oh and PS: jonothan locke thought of hide/seek 2 years ago in an extended season for a gp, you didn't think of it.

Never said i thought of it. In fact, I credited someone else on MWSplay for the idea.

You may very well have a better list than me, I do think yours is quite good. As far as manners, you were 5 minutes late in the round, and were declared a game loss by the TC. I should have called that on you and decided to be nice. As to who was "Bad-mannered", a game loss is a bit bigger than a warning due to a mis-click.

And your "easy crush" of me was due mainly to the runed halo that you drew without my drawing a Hide... and the "Easy crush" in the one game lasted 45 minutes, and you didnt actually win the game.

My main question to you... How do you ever plan on actually winning matches (not effectively winning, like you did with me) in time with that list? Sure, you may have a better lockdown and matchup against most decks... If you had 2 hours for match. Winning due to misveil plains and making them deck is not a viable strategy.

I guess going 1-0 every match is an option, but still. (perhaps this is simply from the perspective of the 1 game we had though.)

Again- I'll hand it to you that you're list beats the mirror, and wins the long game better, but how do you handle combo? Just rely on Runed halo and hope you choose the right card (Ad nauseum has 2-3 kill sources... so does storm, and splinter twin.)?

I'll definitely test your list, though. Looks super solid.

EDIT: Yep- teaching MU is quite easy.

There are a lot of things that make player's unable to draw cards.
Possessed Portal, Maralen of the Mornsong to name a few.
There are also things that counter activated abilities.

There are lots of things that are "truly uncounterable," like cards that say they "can't be countered," but I think what you mean is "truly unanswerable," in which case, nothing by itself is truly unanswerable.

An unanswerable card would be bad for the game.

Mana abilities (Like chromatic sphere) cannot be countered by things like stifle. But yeah, didn't think of no-drawing replacement effects.

Also, cards that say "Can't be countered" Are very much counterable. All you need to do is stop the turn with them on the stack, or exile them from the stack.
