Bag of Holding explicitly crosses the streams in black border. Yes in the PAST they have wanted to keep them separate, however with the growing popularity of D&D, the success of the Ravinca book, this is the perfect opportunity for a set based on D&D lore. Hell idc if it’s a brand new world or not, the feel of an adventure world not Zendikar with it’s heavy destruction, would be great.

If you think the concept of a Bag of Holding is exclusive to D&D, then you'd be wrong. The concept originally comes from older fantasy literature.

They don't really want to cross the "streams" so to speak, they only did the guildmaster's guide to Ravnica because people has been bugging them for a D&D campaignsetting based on MTG for nearly over decade.

That said, it is far from impossible.

Speaking of which, MaRo explicitly said there will be a brand new world they tried to make for over a decade...

Brand new = Not existing before.
World based on D&D = Using a previously established world.

D&D in MTG is not going to happen outside of silverborder.

I would not be surprised if Archery is in fact a set that takes place on Faerûn. Tbh I’m kinda surprised that they haven’t crossed the streams more since buying TSR just so they could get their hand on D&D.

They bought TSR because it was dirt cheap due to massive mismanagement and they wanted to expand into other games than CCG's.
Seriously, TSR was effectively bankrupt when they got bought by WotC.

But no, I don't think they'll be crossing the streams further than the occasional campaign setting due to intense pressure from the fan base. Even that was only done because they tested the waters first by releasing a few smaller PDF's for worlds they visited and because people had been bugging them about it for decades.

That was part of it. WotC wanted a table top RPG for years and had tried to develop one that stuck, TSR’s bankruptcy happened to be fortunate for WotC. Mark has specifically asked about D&D mtg set and what people want.

Only when people have asked him about it, which they do, constantly. He's always constantly telling people that they like to keep their IP's separate. But him asking his followers about it is one of the reasons they finally caved and did the Ravnica Campaign Setting. There'd be a lot less contamination of the IP's in that direction (transferring MTG to D&D), than in the opposite direction. Once D&D is in MTG, there is no stuffing that cat back in the bag.

for the reprints here in core 2020 its looking more and more likely we will be returning to theros some time after rhe fall set

Or, you know, it was just reprints that were needed in Standard in general.

Somehow this always happens, and people end up disappointed when their prediction doesn't happen. I hope we get to Theros soon, but I haven't seen anything even hinting at it. On the contrary, with the number of powerful artifacts we've gotten in WAR and M20, I think it equally likely that we'll visit Kaladesh or Mirrodin. Or the number of vampire and wolf/werewolf tribal cards could be hinting at Innistrad. Or... you see where I am going with this? Sometimes we see patterns where there are none because we want something really bad.

Personally I'd love a return to a number of planes, but until we have more info about what comes after the fall set, it's baseless. We know the next set is a new world, we should concentrate on that one for now. Smile

i might have to bring this up again but.

im starting to think again we might see a colorless precon

i mean look at the cards we got recently

    (colored cards are against colorless)

im not saying this is a gonna happen or anything but theres a chance this might be a foreshadow in construct tribal colorless percon

Funny thing, people said the same shortly after BFZ/Oath. I find it no more or less likely to happen now than then.

I think a plane inspired by D&D is more likely. That way they have more creative freedom.

If Legends' legendary creatures were the manifestations of designers' D&D characters, then I think this has substance, and I don't mean in a thorny armour capacity.

TBH Shards of Alara had that basic fantasy feeling so hopefully, whatever happens, it is reminiscent of that with the adventurous nature of Zendikar I's design.

    'buster

Whatever it is, it is something MaRo has wanted to make for over a decade, so it's probably going to be good.

Hmm... There are a surprising amount of red auras that pump toughness, even more if you add other colors, could be good in a monocolor or multicolor build.

At one point... Gaea's Skyfolk was considered well over the curve.

Skyknight Legionnaire is still decent in boros!

Yes, and this new card is more mana efficient. Red/Blue aggro is going to become a thing now, isn't it?

We just need to bug them for years to make a D&D set
class-tribal set with beholders, it's not a bad idea at all. Please wotc cross the streams!

Well, Sword of Dungeons and Dragons was supposed to make Beholder tokens originally...

Of course, if they did make a "crossover" in MTG between it and D&D, they'd have to add the Aberration creature subtype, because D&D fans would get angry if Aboleths, Beholders and Mindflayers were represented without it.

I feel like the "Horror" subtype works well, and people wouldn't be that upset.

    I would. >.<

Actually another thing they could be hinting toward

A knight tribal legend that’s atlewst Mardu

I'd love a Mardu legendary knight. Double points if it has flanking, triple if it is a new version of Telim Tor, quadruple if it gives all your knights flanking.
