im surprized that they made a creature that is pretty much stricly bettertehn juzam djinn. im not sure taht it will have much effect of the value of juzam djinn for its value is based on its rarity rather then its playability. I would like to see though
There is not such thing as "pretty much strictly better"
Something can be strictly better (meaning better in every situation) or it can't be.
Having two Juzams out is better then having two of these slivers out.
I just want to do Lightning Axe to kill one creature discarding neo-'taal, killing one creature with the -X/-X and ambush-blocking another with the first strike.
It's probably going to be like OLS where red-black was 'greedy drafting' - because those two colors got all the removal (so everyone wanted to get at least one). A risky strategy, but one that could pay off.
OLS was my favorite set to draft. I think it was because of all the options. Morph costs, morph triggers, and cycling triggers all affected how you played your hand. Every game was different. Also, a think I loved about OLS was the number of BOMBS. Rorix, Visara, Insurrection, Akroma, Phage, Day of the Dragon, Form of the Dragon, Scion of Darkness, Starstorm, etc, etc, etc...
I think TS will be very similar.
Morph, split second, Flash, madness, flashback, etc all affect how and when you choose to make your plays.
Creatures with morph and flanking will mess with combat math and other combat considerations.
Suspend adds a new level of suspense. Will you try to vomit out men trying to out race the suspend count down or something else?
Big purples/rares offer numerous first picks. Everyone will have at least a bomb in their deck.
Every draft will be skill intensive and each game will be full of unique surprises.
The MTGS community is a very small portion of the Magic player community. Most of the stuff we have learned in the last couple of days is information the masses don't have. Most magic players will walk into a PR not expecting any of these purple cards. The true test is after PR weekend how many casual players are thrilled with the cards they've just opened.
I'm glad these reprints are being printed. I'm glad that they will be legal. I'm not glad with all the crybabies ruining the mood without even giving the new cards a chance.
Magic players who are not part of the MTGS community will enjoy the surprises.
I have yet to be impressed by any of the rare suspend cards. Come to think of it, I've been rather disappointed with all suspend cards. They've previewed decent cards from every other color, and our first green one is a Johnny card. Bleh.
More fodder for the trade binder.
Don't discount it so soon. Many Johnny plants have been picked up by the Spikes. I seem to remember a couple of combo decks hitting tier 1 status.
Ruins of Trokair Legendary Land Tap: add W to your mana pool. When Ruins of Trokair is put into a graveyard form play, you may search your library for a plains card and put it into play tapped. If you do, shuffle your library afterwards. Rare.
Is this part of a cycle? Seems it would be good against LD.
I don't really care for slivers.
I'm very interested in the return of Bad Moon. It's a card I play a lot when I dust of my copy of Shandalar because it's pretty cool.
The Rampant Growth suspend thing is kind of bland. It's playable in limited though. Limited decks don't get enough 1cc playables.
Green blue could use this plus tutors to get out multiples of Angel of Despair. Nuke your opponents creatures as they come into play. It has constructed potential.
Potential is all you can ever ask for... Amirite?
This will get played whether it be in my garage with some casual guys or in some weird tier 1 combo machine we can't yet understand.
This is interesting. In some ways it's much better then Eureka. Suspend this then spend the next three turns filling your hand or messing with their hand. Johnny fodder.
The throw back I was waiting for was actually a red, a black, and a blue rare incarnation. There was one of each uncommon incarnation. However, only white and green got rare incarnations because Judgement was so W/G heavy.
Regarding the purple reprints... I don't see any reason why we need to get the whole cycle. Filth, Valor, and Brawn all kind of suck.
Congregation at Dawn -- I stack my library with Saffi, Saffi, Soul Warden.
Next turn, play Saffi #1. You want to kill her? Okay.
Next turn, play Saffi #2. You want to kill her? In response I sacrifice her to bring back Saffi #1. Oh, you want to kill her also? In response I sacrifice her to bring back Saffi #2. Let me know when you get tired of this.
Next turn, play Soul Warden. You want to kill her? Okay, in response I go off and get infinite life.
Nothing can stop this combo but graveyard manipulation, library manipulation (after the Congregation), counters, or split-second creature kill. Maybe instant speed discard could do it. And Rain of Gore. But that's it. If you don't have one of those things, this combo goes off. GG.
I predict the split-second creature kill will be very, very popular.
Perhaps they included the split second creature kill just for these kind of antics...
I doubt this will be a viable archtype. Too much stuff has to go the right way. In old life decks they had 8x En-Kor guys and 8x "Whenever ~ becomes the target ~ gets +0/+2 guys NOT TO MENTION Vampiric Tutor... Which is much better then Congregation at Dawn.
All of the reprint options have been surprising. From the unusual effects like Desert, to seriously off color action like Psionic Blast, to unusually bland like Jasmine Boreal. The Purple cards really feel thrown together without any unifying theme. They are just supposed to be some nonsensical cross section of Magic's history.
The unifying theme is TS's storyline. The world is in total chronological chaos.
Also there is a cycle of Racor-like enchantments. White one was a spirit-link one cmc maybe 2w not exactly sure. There was I think one for each color. Red is basically Giant Strength with can't block. I'll have more as I remember but will try not to duplicate whats in spoiler.
I'd love these... Sure, they're not rancor. They don't even sound close. But I really liked rancor and besides... these will at least be playable in limited... All of them.

Turboland oath, Meandeath, Wake, etc.
Just wait untill some Johnny tries to break it.

Thanks, someone needed to take a stance and start trying to talk sense into these naysayers and what not.

The madness card.
The flashback one.
Lightning Axe (R for 5 damage to a creature)
However, you should note that Red/Black is always draftable.
Sindbad
Sindbad 1U
Creature
T: Reveal the top card of your library... If it's a land draw it. Otherwise mill 1.
1/1
*EDIT* Sarnath'd
Perhaps they included the split second creature kill just for these kind of antics...

Or he is a bad faker?
Anyway, I still think a Rancor style aura cycle would be cool. So I still want to believe they're real.
The unifying theme is TS's storyline. The world is in total chronological chaos.
