Arr me hearty! Thar be a selection I can be argeein' with!
I be encouragin' any o' ye landlubbers worth thar salt to be doin' a "pirate-themed" alter an' be postin' it on September 19th ta celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day!
I think it would be better if you used stencils to create more details. Otherwise, isn't it a tad heavy for cards?
I think I will make some stencils for the next batch, this one was just testing to see if it would work. I don't think much heavier than acrylic and I know most people coat their cards with a spray sealant anyway...
... another one???? - I blame Hasbro...
meh, if it's mostly Tempest block stuff I'll get it...
Any word on wether there is new art or not?
@Reinaldo: The Mytic will be Sliver Queen, Queen is the most EPIC and most flavorful of the Sliver Lords. They won't make the highest profile card in the deck a non-sliver and I can't see them makeing a new sliver just for a special box set.
OK, so I want to ask the artists in this thread a general question.
I'm currently commissioning a work and I have a problem. The card in question, I'm getting 3x of, 3 diff versions.. At least one of these will have much of the original art exposed and for this reason, I'm providing the artist a Revised/3rd edition copy b/c the inks used in that edition are much closer to Alpha/Beta levels of richness/intensity than Revised/4th Edition, which are rather 'washed out' by comparison.
However, the other 2 are much more 'full' alters and very little of the original card will be exposed. However, if I use the much cheaper Revised/4th edition, the little bit of text that is visible will be washed out and not match the 3rd edition one. So, in the artists' experience, do you typically see a differential in what a given card alter fetches based on the edition of card used as the canvas?
Basically, do you think a Revised Lightning Bolt and an Unlimited Lightning Bolt would fetch the same premium, assuming the art is the same on both?
And, following this same example, if sold as a pair, would this cause any difference in what they'd fetch? Not that I'm planning on selling them or anything. Just asking b/c I need to make a decision here.
(Also...can someone please post their best recipe for black-border-ifying a white border card? Seems someone posted that at one point. Can't find it.)
My take would be that it really depends on the card. Lightning bolt for example would probably be about the same, the difference in value of an unpainted card would be at most probably $0.50. I find that the value added by the paint job usually tends to outweigh the value of the original card unless it was substantial beforehand (for example Alpha Lightneing bolt vs. M10).
As far as black bordering - I've done it to an 8th ed card and it's almost unnoticable as long as you use a thin enough paint that there is no texture. it would probably look very stange on older edition cards (unlimited - 4th) because the ink is so much less intense. You might be able to get an authentic look by diong like a charcoal colour and the doing a faint white dry bursh over top... I'd make sure to test it out first though...
Couldn't a "pure dragon deck" run Fireball, or Terror, or any number of other things. Are you really angry that a card has protection from Dragons? If so... wow, just wow.
At least this is a refreshingly original complaint, a nice break from all the complaining everyone is doing about the rules changes...
@CardKitty: Love the Baneslayer, I'm inspired, I might just find the courage to try my hand on the angel I picked up on the weekend.

Spray paint art on cards. You can't get too detailed but some can end up looking pretty sharp.
Here's what I've got so far:
The photos went a little blue because it was getting dark out...

Well he is the general of the EDH deck I'm using the edict in... Don't get me wrong though, I love everything pirate, especially Jack Sparrow.
adunakhor, I love your edict, you can't tell it's been painted on.
As for next PnP, I'm game for any of the above...

I missed out on the duress's because of vacation, but I'm game t keep going if there's enough intrest...
Thanks adunakhor, the symbol is the original artist's signature.

lol, It's not my best EDH deck, just my favorite. It's a Pirate theme deck, mostly just for fun but it does manage to win a game or two...
