No current Standard card remotely makes me wish it were banned just like Bitterblossom.

Rather than banning a card, I would reprint Wasteland and either Blood Moon, Back to basics or Ruination. No more "pick 3+ colors, stuff the best cards" decks.

    Jund is:
Strong because control is so weak

Not this one. Jund, with all its cascade cards and creatures that often demand 2 for 1s for removal, is especially good at beating a traditional counter - removal control. If a control deck arose and Jund weren't capable of defeating it, no other midrange or aggro deck could. Before rotation, Spectral Procession decks, with all its tokens and Burrentons, were the bad matchup for Jund.

What is needed to defeat Jund is either a faster, more resilient combo deck, since Jund goldfish is usually low unless it draws Leeches, or land denial, which is another weak point. A reprint of Mana Leak, which is what the control players are always asking for, would make Jund the best deck to fight it with its cascade cards and therefore even more played, as the decks that can stand against Jund (Eldrazi green, Naya, Bant) would be the ones suffering from the Mana Leak.

As for the deck being mindless to play... it is a scrubbish complaint, such as the ones about permission being a cheap tactic or land destruction being unfun.

What happened is that the default control finisher of this season is a natural foil to punishing fire: Thopter Foundry and Sword of the Meek. Once it comes online, the control player gains life faster than the Punishing Fire recursion. Not even a hate card is needed.

  • posted a message on Underrated/Overrated cards in Standard
My vote for underrated card goes to Essence Scatter. Blue decks should start with that card. It can't counter noncreatures, so what? With the format being centered on midrange and aggro, it stops every current threat. Thrinax? Gone without tokens. Broodmate Dragon? Both taken out with 2 mana. Even against R / W a countered Bushwacker stops surprise hasty attacks. Even if Vampires go for Mind Sludge in the SB, then it is matter of siding in some slower Cancels that will still do the job.

For overrated card, Day of Judgement. Contrary to what the control whiners claim, neither the short absence of Wrath made Kitkhkin the dominant deck nor its return means control instantly materializes. Vampires can drop Quest for the Gravelord and retaliate with a 5 / 5 pseudohasty Zombie, R / W just assembles a single turn combo kill and Jund recoups with a Bloodbraid Elf after the sweeper left some tokens.
