The circle of "We can't reprint card x because of much it costs on the secondary market but the card is only worthy because of availability/tournament viability" is a really thin excuse and one that disgusts me every time I see it.

    This

Card price in a secondary market is a pathetic excuse to drive a competitive game like magic. Proof of concept is the lack of popularity of legacy and vintage where by far the largest complaint is the price wall anyone has to get through to make a decent competitive deck. At the rate things are going modern is again going this way and like vintage and legacy before it will turn out to be a hugely unpopular format because of price.

In the case of the FTV product I find that it is fine, as special premium foil alternate edition version of the cards should be a commodity but it shouldn't be the influx of staples not if its going to come in such a limited print run.

If wizards were to take anything in its the fact that reprinting staples at a lower frequency to bring in the players actually works they dont have to look further than Yugioh, the largest and most popular card game (yes look it up), where this set's mythic staple ships as a rare or uncommon within the next starter decks...

    How about

~ Comes into play with 4 +1/+1 counters.

Whenever a source would deal damage to ~, prevent that damage and put that many +1/+1 counters on it instead.

No, it is a changed wording for a core set, not a fixed wording. In no way does not mean it did unintentional things before.

I challenge you to present that to Matt Tabak (on tumblr), the rules editor. He has been fielding questions about the new wording and he has never said that previous exilers were doing something unintended, or that this is the template from here out. They are smart enough that if they wanted it not to work like that before this core set they could have come up with wording that made it so. After all since 2002 they have printed several cards with similar effects and have not felt the need to change the wording on similar cards.

This is false the previous exilers where doing something unintended.

In fact the first time I can remember an issue with these types of triggers was during the Nemesis era, specifically with the cards Parallax Nexus, Parallax Tide and Parallax Wave. Parallax Nexus even was so powerful that they switched its ability to sorcery speed before printing, even then the cards even had effects so powerful that could be abused with Disenchant that they still received power-level errata so that their triggers didn't resolve if they weren't in play.

This was also again mentioned in the Torment era when the Nightmare Creatures showed up. Those didn't get any type of errata because as they argued back then their effects were far more restricted (to a single thing) and they expected the loss of a creature to be far more devastating than what would be a useless enchantment. Hypnox in fact got such a large costing cost (and body to compensate) to prevent possible abuse a la Parallax Nexus. Even then as mentioned the ability still got used to permanently exile and thus it wasn't used for a long time again.

You know not wanting to read all the 67 pages...

But has anyone else thought it might be Academy Rector and not mother of the runes Slant

This particularly coming from the fact that academy rector was a card within the 2000 World Championships in Nicolas Labarre's Decklist.

Boobtits was behind Season of Pumpkins. I can sleep tonight.
Also, stop complaining about the card. I would put money on it being a competitively used card.

Yeah I would also like to take the bet since discard depending effects are generally terrible...

it is possible but not not THE sliver queen or a sliver at al....

in fact in the story during time spiral, it was Freyilise who had control over the slivers meaning that its totally possible for a planeswalker that is sliver related to show up.

    Bad card is bad.

This thing went the way of Vanish into Memory again....

I hope BitWC wins. It is quite easily the most versatile effect that is both constructed playable AND casual playable. Basically an enchantment like No Mercy that plays on your opponent giving them the option of hurting you and giving you card advatange in the process... The card also works in multiplayer since it activates each turn and is easily combined with other black card effects (and some non black) to get card advantage in any turn virtually for free.

RoN is a bad card I dont know how many people defend it. Its cute yes, but it does nothing by itself, depends on a ability that wizards doesnt even like to print often in good cards (since discard is seen as "unfun") and if you want to abuse it, your are likely running extremely bad cards to justify it. Even if there are good discard spells (thin thoughtseize or Wrench mind without going into the broken things), those dont need and dont want another card to be "better" as waiting and depending for the effect likely made the discard MUCH worse.

  • posted a message on prediction: M14 Slivers are WGR only
It totally makes sense for slivers to be only RWG, all of the returning mechanics in core sets have been restricted to certain colors and I don't think slivers will be the exception.

on top of everything this is a nice opportunity to get not only sliver cards but also tribal hosing cards in the set like Extinction or Unnatural Selection on the colors that don't get the sliver mechanic.

Lets say I have an Animas, Soul of the Elements in play and I cast a Solemn Simulacrum. I wait for the Simulacrum to resolve and resolve the trigger of searching for my land. After this I see that I didnt add the +1/+1 counter that I shouldve have gotten from casting the Solemn Simulacrum.

Can I still add the +1/+1 counter on my Animar?

I have asked judges before and I have gotten different answers from similar rulings:

-One of them told me that it is a missed trigger and by resolving the triggered ability of the Solemn Simulacrum I had "visibly changed the game state" and thus the trigger was never placed on the stack.

    - Another tells me Out of Order Sequencing applies to this situation, and that Animar get the trigger even if the simulacrum triggers and I had already searched my library.

Who is right and by which criteria should I generally play?

Beetleform Mage: Just amazing, its an incredible clock, decent creature all around great comon.

Phytoburst: sorcery hurts the surprise factor, but this can easily steal games with a single evasive creature. Damage is huge for low mana and can easily be thought as a 5 damage spell for 1C if you play these right.

Lev Decree: Just sick, multiple copies of this card just mull up combat, give you a large combat advantage.

Saruli Gatekeepers: Backbreaking. Their size is appropriate for multiple strategies, their ability is just sick when you get it and nto hard to acomplish. The best gatekeeper of them all.

Maze Glider: Amazing, its toughness actually allows him to survive against almost anything that flies. His ability is just incredible can win games out of nowhere.

There is no way to make both abilities happen at the same time. Sacrificing the Elk is part of the cost of either of the abilities and you have to choose which to use.

may i recommend you using Viridian Emissary for that purpose since his ability triggers when he goes to the graveyard rather than having to sacrifice him to get the effect.

I think the point of what he was saying, and I could be wrong on this, was people submitting ideas like "sac something: draw a card" in red, or such not, where the thing you're sacing for is a permanent resource. Red sacs things for temporary resources, typically mana of some kind. And that sort of ability can be very dangerous on an enchantment, or very underpowered. It typically goes one way or the other, with little middle ground.

This is exactly what im saying, people who pointed out my mistake on red sacrificing resouces for gain only prooved one thing: red has the power to make a less powerful squandered resources

Red by its nature is far more restrictive and less of a chance to get a card that can appeal to both the casual and competitive crowd. The grim situation will be that RnD will limit the YMTC possibilities to prevent another Crucible of Worlds (which they have mentioned is a bit too good) and this will likely end like Vanish into Memory did.

Black will give the most wiggle room to get different, unique, repeatable effects, that can be balanced in the various ways black offers to offset power (usually life loss, but can be based of many resources) in many more ways than red can ever get.

The multiple references Wizards has given that highlight the importance of the color pie should be strong indicator that we wont be given wiggle room to push the color pie and make that weird red enchantment that barely fits into red's philosophy like so many people have been suggesting...

A lot of people have to reaad rosewater's article more carefuly.

THE COLOR PIE IS AN IMPORTANT THING

as such, no you wont be getting "a red enchantment that allows you to draw cards", even if it has some sort of drawback. No, a sacrifice something to get another resource is also not going to happen. No repeatable destruction or global triggering life loss... no real card advantage.

Many of the abilities that players have said "it would be cool if" are deeply Black and not Red, others are abilities that have existed before but are both BLACK/RED. Frankly I voted black because it has the best chance at a good powerful enchantment thanks to its wide range of powerful effects with a drawback.

    Black.

Dispite other colors and their interresting choices, black has always had the most powerful and interresting enchantments: The Abyss, Nether Void, Necropotence, Yawgmoth's Bargain, Yawgmoth's Agenda, Phyrexian Arena, Bitterblossom, Pestilence, Animate Dead (and variants), No Mercy, Recurring Nightmare, Grave Pact...

Other particularly strong enchantments mentioned here like Sylvan Library and Mirri's Guile can easily be concieved as Black rather than green today (as library manipulation is more Black than it is green)
