The tree man has not been printed as magic artwork in recent sets and since it was done in 2004, it leads me to believe it was probably for an upcoming set (same year that new FatMoti artwork was done)....any ideas what card it could be if in 9th? Im so stoked about hippie!
I think that the reason why CoK block sucks so much compared to many other blocks is that its the most straight forward block in a while...no mechanics require much thought and none of the cards are particularly tricky or inventive...therefor there is little room for innovation (outside of gifts) and the skill required for this block and its cards is minimal...honestly, if you look at the cards and their mechanics, this is really like portal or a core set, since most of the cards and what they do are beginner material...wizards seems to just be dumbing things down for all the tards who can't seem to figure out how to build good decks, by saying, here is jitte, put some creatures around it, and have some fun (u can replace jitte with any other number of straight forward cards like kokusho)...let us hope that SaK isnt a sack of sh*t and mebbe has some cards that are not portal worthy...
I musts taken my crazy pills this morning but i really think that the Roar of Jukai is an a very playable common for the U/G and B/G archetypes in draft and sealed. In both U and B (the colors of ninjas) your opponents will be making bad blocking decisions all day, for fear of ninjitsu. This allows you to attack with bad creatures into better ones, forcing your opponents to block or risk letting a hana kami become a ninja. Thus, in those two archetypes, this card holds great relevance and will be drafted quite often for that reason alone. In no other color combinations is it this good, but because of what ninjas will force your opponents to do as far as blocking is concerned, this will often be a very useful card...And if they see it played first game, then the subsequent games they may not block for fear that you have it, allowing you to use your ninjas far more frequently. Not a high pick or a bomb by any stretch of the imagination, but it sure will be relevant and used often...
while at first Higure seems a bit abusive, an unblockable 3/4 for 4 that tutors for a ninja each turn, which can in turn be made unblockable (and thus help draw you extra cards, kill your opponents creatures, or return them to your opponents hand) isn't all that powerful...;) aw, who and i kidding, this card is SICK...at least there are splashable ways to deal with it (like rend flesh and cranial extraction)
This is a very balanced recursion card...it won't see play in constructed because the whole point of reanimator decks is that you are getting an expensive creature for an inexpensive cost, at an early point in the game, none of which this card does at all well. However, it is not bad in limited, although its still not amazing...meh...
Wow...this card is unbelievably good, so much so that i cannot understand why WoTC would print it...but then again, i say that about a lot of cards that they print...do they test these cards at all before printing? That being said, control decks are gonna rule the day again...I HATE W/x control...grrrr
